Sad news.  Martin Milner - Officer Pete Maloy on Adam 12, passed away in Carlsbad, CA yesterday.  He was 83 and lived in nearby Del Mar.

He was also Tod Stiles in the iconic Route 66 series.

He gave us many enjoyable television years.  RIP, sir.

Sad news indeed,I always enjoyed Adam-12 and he was my favorite on the show and my daughter who will be 14 has always had a crush on Martin Milner, she would watch anything he was in,Route 66 Adam 12 and Twilight zone and a few others she found and watched.....last year I said to her "Bev he was younger then,he's a lot older now" and I found a recent picture of him and she said "He's still cute, looks good for his age" lol  Thank you for the great work Martin now may you be reunited with you daughter Amy....

One of my favorite shows. Sad to hear, so many stars of shows entire family could (and would) enjoy together being replaced by...The Bachelor and similar wastes of film?

Question for Dan or Wayne: I saw 10-10 was "off duty," and 10-7 was out of car/break? When I wrote up a note on Facebook, I went with 10-10.

Did I goof?

Eternal night-watch clear.

Charlie,

Different agencies use different variations of codes.

10-7 generally means 'out of service' as in 'off duty' or 'off shift.'  Some areas may use it differently.

10-10 was what we used for 'out of service, subject to call,' or, available for emergency, in other words, a temporary break.  Other agencies may use it differently.

As an example, the three largest agencies in Arizona (Phoenix PD, Arizona Dept Public Safety, Maricopa County Sheriff) use 10-7 to indicate 'out of service.'  AZ DPS uses 10-10 as 'out of service but available,' MCSO uses 10-10 to indicate a negative or 'no' response to a query, and Phoenix PD does not use 10-10 at all.

Another large agency, Pima County Sheriff's Department, uses 10-7 the same way, 'out of service,' but uses 10-10 to communicate 'fight.'

B) Your mileage may vary.

PS:  I think in Vegas 10-10 means 'out of chips.'  ;)

In Vegas, 10-10  means exactly that.

I must confess, in my previous 28 years in the St.Louis PD, I never, ever used a 10-Code.

We had a system all our own based on a dispatch system from long ago. The system was replaced early in my career, but the lingo remains to this day.

It's called "English". :D

Watched this show as child and never missed an episode. A few years ago, there was a channel here in Charlotte that showed EVERY episode from the beginning to the end and I watched them with my kids and they thought it was funny.

Martin Milner married a woman from the town I grew up in and every once in awhile they would come back to town and when they did, the newspaper made sure to let us know Marty was in town!

RIP, thanks for the memories.

I don't know what to say? Between Route 66 and Adam-12, Milner was one of the best. The earliest thing I ever saw him was a movie called Life With Father from 1947. Starring William Powell as Father, and very young Elizabeth Taylor. A very funny movie, with a young Milner playing the 2nd son. And Milner's character was not the totally straight, rules following guy he normally portrayed in most others things. It was fun to see him being a little mischievous.

i hope to someday see him on that great Route 66 in the sky. Goodbye for now.

Oh yeah, survivor this, survivor that, naked and doing something, really?

I told someone once I was in an episode of Survivor, it was "Survivor - South East Asia". When asked when it aired, I replied oh about 40 years ago for my episode.

Then you come ride with me on the 6pm to 2am watch in north St Louis, you'll appreciate just how stupid those shows are. It was a relief to "survive" roll call.......

Sorry Officer Malloy, no hijack, just an old retired sergeant venting.
