Just got this from PhotoBucket; all I can say is (censored)

I just logged into my PB to get some pics for another member and was immediately hit with an add for the $399 deal, touting it as being only "just over a dollar a day!"

So evidently they're not desperate enough yet to make me an even halfway reasonable offer.

Meanwhile Fotki is having a sale. Why anyone with a single functioning brain cell would even consider the bucket is beyond comprehension, aside from comic relief. Even the 1TB accounts are no more than $67/year, and this has been a stable and reliable host 99.9% of the time. I've been with them almost 17 years. I despised Photobucket before they hit the red button. Slow, laggy, loaded with ads...so many that even the adblocker would melt if you attempted to look at an album. Seriously...what a joke.

Interesting conundrum for me...much as I despise the PB SOBs for their tactics, the $98/year new price is attractive when I consider how many hours it would take me to remove and replace all of my photographic content on the web.

I imagine this was the idea from the beginning...

Sometimes, one has to make a purely business decision, and $98 is a small fraction of what I could earn working those migrating / re-posting hours.

You get a dog! And you get a dog! And you get a dog! Is that the Oprah special? :)   I have been with Fotki since 2001 and as others have said, it works very well. Yes, moving the servers was a royal pain for us but can you imagine how tough it was for them? :(  They did get all my photographs back online and apologized with a few free months, nice touch. I have my Fotki page on my business card and many of my customers and race and car show people tell me they like it as it is user friendly. I am not changing :)

This is a prime example of why you never put your eggs all in one basket.

I keep all of my photos on my hard drive and only put photos that I want to share on hosting sites.

I have them on both Fotki & PB as well as a few on Flickr.

Since PB pulled their little stunt, I have abandoned them & they can keep my photos & place them strategically you know where!

Now I use Fotki almost exclusively for sharing pics.

The only thing that I still need to do is transfer copies of some of my pics onto & external drive to guard against loosing them due to a computer melt down.

I don't know if you're addressing me or not, but I have all my photos on my own drives...but those I want to share are also on PB.

Because I was a paying user from the get-go, I never had the ad problems so many complained of, and I never lost access to my shared content.

However, my grandfathered-in plan expires in not too long, and it's far more cost-effective for me to just shell out $100 annually to PB than it is to waste at least a full work week replacing all the image codes for every photo on PB.

This would be necessary because MOST of my PB-hosted material is linked to ongoing, long-term build threads, all of which will be updated at some future time.

Deleting the PB links and replacing them with Fotki links, after of course moving them all to Fotki in the first place, is something I'd simply prefer NOT to do.

No Bill, I was not addressing you in particular.

Just a general statement to anyone who lost all of their sharing capabilities because of Puke Bucket.

I'd like to share a quick story that just happened moments ago concerning PB.

I was on line looking for information for this springs NNL North show & just happened across an individual who had photos from last years NNL North show, so I thought I'd check them out.

Big mistake!

Unfortunately, that individual had them stored on Photo Bucket!

17 pages of photos & after wasting about 15 minutes "TRYING" to view them, I gave up before I could even get page three to load completely!

No problem with pop-ups appearing though!

I see that they're still offering the same horrible service at hugely inflated prices, & then they still have the guts to send me emails occasionally asking me to come back!!

Yeah, it'll be when hell freezes over!

Adios PB........it wasn't really all that nice knowing you!

... I switched to Flickr and find it easy to use.  ...

Steven and you are the only ones who mentioned (S)Flickr.  I had a bad experience on that website.  I signed up when I joined the MINI Cooper forum, was fine until I became an addict and got involved in their political forums, and then the you-know-what hit the fan.  It was so bad, that I had serial troll come after me, and (S)Flickr staff would not give a rats, total lack of customer service, and they made my account show as "adult content" when there is no porn.  Then they got the brilliant idea to make it more "awesomeness", and trashed the platform, making it impossible for anyone with slow internet and/or computer.  And then all the ads, forcing you to pay to reduce the clutter.   So I tried Ipernity, but the interaction was not the same, so I have let that go idle.

I will look into Fotki.

I am not keeping my eggs in one basket, and I am currently using Imgur and Flickr for my photo hosting needs.   Fotki is on my radar,  I might just have to suck it up and pay for hosting.

I find it far easier to upload and get share links on Imgur,  its not as easy on Flickr to do either in my opinion.

For those that still have photos being held hostage on Photobucket,  there is a extension for Google Chrome that will add back the download album button, its gonna cost  $3, but its worth it if you want your photos back and your time is important, Ive been using and it works wonderful.
