Ford LT9000 Dump

Recommended Posts

This is sort of another truck from my past. My daddy worked for this paving company for years. My mom’s stepdad also worked for the company driving a dump truck similar to the one that I am building. The hood is from Gary Wallace. The engine is a 6-71 from Jamie. The tanks are from Auslowe. The wheels are Ertl.

This will be another great build. It always makes me chuckle a bit when I see those chrome spokes, but I know you’ll take care of that nonsense. Unique tanks, and I also like the rarity of the 6-71 (putting one under the hood in a build, not in real life), so this will be a fun one to watch.

Thanks for the comments guys! It is starting to look like a truck. I can’t figure out why the hood is a shade different than the cab. They both had the same primer, same base coat of white and the same paint all from the same cans. These trucks were pretty beat up anyway, so I am going with it.

The cab is metal and the hood is fiberglas so there you go!  Seriously, I've found resin and styrene react differently to paint.  I've found a primer that seems to sit the same on anything but as you can guess, they don't make it anymore!  I was banging my head over the paint issue and stripped and re-painted many times.  I think the resin is a bit more porous.  You'd think several coats would even things out but seems to bite me in the butt more often than not.

Same number of coats on the cab and hood?  That happened to me on a small build recently.  I should have painted both with the same number of coats on each one.  I doubt that the resin has anything to do with it if they were both primed the same and had the same basic starting surfaces.  It's looking good though, in spite of the slight shade difference.

Thanks Charles. There were probably more coats on the hood, but the hood is lighter.

Very nice…always liked that era of Ford rigs. You mention the engine came from “Jamie”, who is that?

Thanks! Jamie at moluminum model truck parts.
