Bainford Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 (edited) I just noticed that 'member's location' has been removed from below the name on their posts, and wondered why? I often check to see where a member is from, as it provides context to their comments, and valuable context to the build itself. Also, the hobby, and therefore the forum being global, it is interesting to see where people are from, to see where model car building is being done. The 'location' feature often provides an element of interest to many posts. Is there a reason for the location being removed? And, will it return? - Curious in Nova Scotia Edited May 25, 2023 by Bainford ... a smile from a veil.
crazyjim Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Good question Trevor. I'd be interested in the answer also.
JollySipper Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Why is this guy putting a blown Hemi in a '70s Skyline? Well, let's see where he's from......... Australia? Well that explains it! He's building a burnout car...... 2
1930fordpickup Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 I agree it sure does explain some things. Not a big deal unless you are trading or sending wanted parts.
peteski Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Yeah, that stinks! it was interesting and often helpful to see where the member was from. I wonder if this is some privacy thing? It is not like it was someones actual address. I hope admins will bring this bit of information back. Just having a country would be enough.

Tabbysdaddy Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Yes, when I see odd language or different spellings I check to see where they're from. It was handy.
crazyjim Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Be nice if someone in charge would tell us why locations went away.
Dave Ambrose Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 Yes, we've removed the locations. And, like way too many things we do these days, it has to do with security. Unscrupulous people have been taking bits of information, like real names and location, then filling in a few blanks, and then stealing your identity. I'm not happy about it, but we do need to take this step. 5 1
crazyjim Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 Some people are very disgusting when they steal others info. Thank you for the explanation Dave. 1
peteski Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 As I suspected . . . oh well. I thing that just showing the country would be vague enough not to cause any security problems. A nifty feature would be to have a flag of the member's country showing on their avatar instead of the meaningless rocketship "rank". Of course that feature likely doesn't exist in the forum software. 1
Tabbysdaddy Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 I agree, country would be enough for what some look for while hopefully being secure enough.
