MarkJ Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Just finished this one. MCW light purple metallic paint with Tamiya pearl clear overcoat. AMT kit. PPP tires and wheels. Many scratchbuilt items. Homemade inkjet decals. 139 hours to complete. Wanted to do this car because it was Fireball's last important win.
W-409 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 That's a good looking Galaxie, as your builds always are. Big points for making those decals, I have to say that after trying to study some of the computer programs that folks use to produce those decals (Without any success) I really can understand how much work is put onto them. Really great job overall.
Old Coyote Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Another gorgeous build Mark .................. you do such beautiful work
bbowser Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Very very nice! Great model of an almost forgotten hero.
Matt T. Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Beautiful, just beautiful! Love those old, big Fords.
GLMFAA1 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Very nice build, One question- would the battery be under the hood or back in the trunk? Want NASCAR to be exciting, bring back gas caps and lug wrenches greg
Phildaupho Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Great looking classic stock car. One of my favorite body styles of the era. How did you do the ink jet white decals? Did you cut around each one individually?
MarkJ Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 yes the battery was under the hood in the stock location. The silver looking thing is the oil cooler.
MarkJ Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Yes you cut around each one as close as you can, then I apply black outline decals printed on clear sheet to put over them to crisp up the edges. Its very hard to get a good edge when you are cutting something out so small. You can see the two sheets on my fotki page.
Fortheloveofgassers Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 That is sweet. Didn't Tiny Lund win the 1963 Daytona, and sadly "fireball" lost his life in the 1964 Daytona. Love your tribute build.
Fortheloveofgassers Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Oops my appoligy I now realize you were referring to the Southern 500. My comments on your build still stand.
MarkJ Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Ed, Fireball was badly burned in the 1964 World 600 at Charlotte and died of pneumonia brought on by the burns later in the year.
Fortheloveofgassers Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Ed, Fireball was badly burned in the 1964 World 600 at Charlotte and died of pneumonia brought on by the burns later in the year. Thanks for the correction. I was 10 at the time and he was my favorite driver. I wish stock racing was still like those days.
DR JAY Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Great Job! I've done the Starliner/Galaxie conversion myself to create Fred Lorenzen's 63, so I understand the work that went into this gem. Fantastic!
MadKaw6 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Great looking race car! Those were the good old days.
MarkJ Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Thanks guys. I really appreciate the comments.
