Just finished this one. MCW light purple metallic paint with Tamiya pearl clear overcoat. AMT kit. PPP tires and wheels. Many scratchbuilt items. Homemade inkjet decals. 139 hours to complete. Wanted to do this car because it was Fireball's last important win.

That's a good looking Galaxie, as your builds always are. Big points for making those decals, I have to say that after trying to study some of the computer programs that folks use to produce those decals (Without any success) I really can understand how much work is put onto them. Really great job overall.

Very nice build, One question- would the battery be under the hood or back in the trunk?

Want NASCAR to be exciting, bring back gas caps and lug wrenches

Great looking classic stock car. One of my favorite body styles of the era. How did you do the ink jet white decals? Did you cut around each one individually?

Posted

Yes you cut around each one as close as you can, then I apply black outline decals printed on clear sheet to put over them to crisp up the edges. Its very hard to get a good edge when you are cutting something out so small. You can see the two sheets on my fotki page.

Ed, Fireball was badly burned in the 1964 World 600 at Charlotte and died of pneumonia brought on by the burns later in the year.

Thanks for the correction. I was 10 at the time and he was my favorite driver. I wish stock racing was still like those days.

Great Job! I've done the Starliner/Galaxie conversion myself to create Fred Lorenzen's 63, so I understand the work that went into this gem. Fantastic!
