1/25 Goodyear Tires Question
'70 Grande replied to '70 Grande's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Can-Con- Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea what Monogram kits might have those Gatorbacks in them? I could probably revise the rear wheels that I'm using on this build to have a larger-diameter rim measurement. Also; weren't there some 1/25 AMT/Ertl or MPC kits that came with VR-__-sized tires; I wonder if any of those "VR" tires might be what I'm looking for?!? I'm open to any suggestions. -
I am working on a 1/25 MPC 1985 Camaro project and have found that Goodyear ZR40 tires will give me the "look" that I want for this build when used as the front tires, but they seem alittle too short in height when being used for the rear tires. My question is this; is there another 1/25 Goodyear performance tire out there that has the same style of tread-pattern and treadwidth, but is slightly-taller than the ZR40 tires are? I know some AMT/Ertl kits of the past have had Goodyear ZR35-sized tires in them, and also ZR60-sized tires. Are either of those tire sizes close to what I am seeking, (a taller ZR40 tire)?

Love this build! Great color, stance, engine detailing! Sure would like to see some pics showing the front and rear ends, (I especially wanna see how fat those tires look from the rear)!

I'm thinking the 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass F85 or 442 would be a good choice for a new tool. http://www.ultra-high-compression.com/sitebuilder/images/redlines-1-951x457.jpg -
Love your build SFD! And the story is fabulous, too! Bet there are many forum members that have a very similar story from their past... my was a '65 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 with the 400cid V8 under the hood for $1,000 in 1976, (I was 17 at the time). Dad heard that 400 start-up and immediately said, "Nope."

That Porsche race car caught my eye; did anyone know that one was coming? Any idea if its a reissue of a Revell of Germany kit, anything like that or something completely new? Wonder if it has a complete engine in it or is more of a curbside.

I've always thought these kits have very good detail and smooth, not-too-complicated construction. I'm in the middle of building one right now, and have had no issues with putting it together. To my eye, the end-result looks to be spot-on to the 1:1!

Love seeing these 1:1 Dealer "Special" cars being built! I've seen one of these Bengal Chargers several years ago; they certainly stand-out wherever they're parked! I'll be watching you finish-up this build; it sure looks good so far!

Looks like you've done some mods to this build other than the excellent paintwork and weathering. Do I detect some flares added to those rear fenders? Sure would like to see some more pics from the side and rear of this build! It looks great! -
Outstanding build! Beautiful paintwork and color choices. I think you should be proud of this build; I know I'd be!

Really looking forward to seeing this one up-on-its-wheels and complete! That interior looks excellent as well as everything else! I certainly keep watching this one finish-up!

Two beautiful builds! Sure would like to see more pics of each of them; I'm sure it would only increase my admiration for each build! -
A great looking conversion! Your paintwork looks outstanding! Tell us alittle bit more about how you made the conversions to the body; is that tailight panel scratchbuilt? Like to see some front-end and rear-end pics from a lower camera-angle, too!
-
Beautiful work; all of it! You've certainly been busy... dang, now I gotta figure out a way to get rid of my "Mrs's" for a week or so!

Wow! A beautiful build! Everything about this Cobra is stunning! Now I've got to dig my in-progress '65 Cobra-build out of the archives and get it going again.
-
Great looking build! Many of your modifications are very apparent, others are quite subtle. I am curious; is that the AMT '55 Chevy Belair's rear bumper straight from the kit, or does that rear bumper have some mods to it, too?
-
Awesome build! I like everything about it! Two questions for you. Do you know what aftermarket source you got those great looking air cleaners from? And, how did you paint-detail those fantastic looking hub caps?
-
Really like this project, too! It sorta looks to me like a potential Breedlove Salt Flats Land-Speed Record car!
-
Wow! I really like this build! It has a great "look" to it, and your paintwork and build-quality are excellent! Give us some details on where you cut that station wagon body at to reduce the length! (I can't see any indications of how you did it; your seam-hiding skills are outstanding)!

Joe, your build looks excellent with outstanding scratch-building, detailing and paintwork! Now if I might ask you a question based in my own ignorance regarding these 1:1 drag cars. Looking at the carbs and other mechanicals on the top of your great looking engine, and seeing just how far those carbs and mechanicals rise above the actual hood surface, why is the hood scoop so much taller and bigger than it needs to be to clear all of those mechanicals? Does an oversized hood scoop like yours provide better air intake into that air-thirsty engine? (Even if the air-hole opening at the front of the scoop is still fairly small)? Does an oversized hood scoop add some kind of air-turbine effect that draws the air more powerfully into those carbs? Or is that oversized hood scoop just for "looks"? I've seen many great drag car builds with the same style of big hood scoop, but always wondered why so big!?!? I certainly mean no disrespect to your awesome build posted here; I'm just hoping you might be able to educate me in an area of my own ignorance.

Love seeing unusual builds that turn out to be really outstanding builds, especially when the process is explained. This one is just plain, outstanding!

I seem to remember a year or two ago there was discussion of a 1959 Dodge kit being reissued in 1/25 scale. Maybe it was an old Johan kit that didn't lose its molds like so many did. Am I imagining this, or was there discussion about it back then? Has anybody heard anything about this being a possibility?

Beautiful, beautiful build! I agree with Bruce's comment above; one of the most stunning automotive-designs to ever come out of Detroit, and your build represents it very well!
