A kit? I've never seen before ....
'70 Grande replied to Dale Gribble's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It was my understanding that these "kits" were handed out to movie reviewers at a invitation-only pre-release showing of the movie in Los Angeles in early-1980. AMT was contracted to supply the model parts to be packaged in those custom printed kit boxes. AMT simply checked their kit inventory at the time and pulled unboxed kits out of inventory and shipped them to California for packing into the custom printed boxes. That's why there's a variety of different models inside these movie-release boxes. There were other movie-promotional items passed out at this invitation-only event. Speculation is there were 100 to 200 of these movie promo "kits" produced, but it's hard to say if those numbers are accurate. -
Great looking build! I'd bet that I'm not the only forum member who's interested in finding out some more about your plastic spoon/fender flares trick. Do you have any pics that show that process or any insight about how you did those spoon-flares?

Not the best angle on this shot.

A stunning build! Exceptionally clean with outstanding paint and decal work! That rear wing looks like it's a mile away from the rear wheels... I wonder how much additional-downforce that "swoopy" rear body work and that wing produced for those rear tires? I'm also curious how they "got to the engine" in the pits under racing conditions... did that whole rear body section pull-off of the car in one giant piece?

And that being the case, this kit might sell well enough and become a "profitable, business-success' for the Salvino's JR Model Company. I honestly do hope this kit is a sales-success for the company. Maybe the feedback on this kit will lead the company to invest more $ into the proper research for more-accurately producing any future kits. I know I bought one, and will build it. I guess that might make me part of the "meh, good enough for me" target audience, but my real reason for making the purchase was to support a start-up, American kit manufacturer. For me, that was reason enough.

A beautiful, beautiful build!

Wow! That is excellent and tiny work! Are those front fender emblems hand-painted too! If so, amazing detail work. One suggestion; it looks to my eye like you might have mounted the rear bumper upside down. Still a fantastic little Ventura!

A stunning build! Paint and decal work is excellent, and the added details to the engine and engine bay are simple outstanding! Please answer a couple of quick questions for me; how many cylinders are inside that motor, and how many plug wires are there for each cylinder? I can see two different distributors; I'm assuming one for each side of the engine... correct?

Appreciate all of your compliments on my Z28 build! I was always a little too timid to post my own builds here, based on the quality of the work that I see here everyday, and your positive messages have really made my day! Guess I won't feel quite so timid any longer. I have one criticism for this build myself, (and it goes along somewhat with Wayne's comment). Overall, I think the engine compartment is just too clean-looking. I never intended for this build to look quite like a 1:1 trailer-queen, and it sorta has that feel to it inside the engine compartment. Hence, I have changed my approach on all of my current builds; now I throw some grime underneath the hood to make my builds look more like everyday-drivers! Thanks again for the nice compliments!

This is my first completed build post here on this forum, even tho I've been a member here for several years. This build is the 1/25 AMT 1968 Chevrolet Camaro kit, (issued several years ago and molded in Orange), with some minor modifications that I made that may or may not be correct for a 1:1, but were done as I would prefer the car to be. The paint is Chevrolet's 1968 Verdoro Green Metallic with Bare-Metal Foil trim and paint-detailed emblems. I painted and flocked the interior in Black and added scratchbuilt seat belts and some after market speakers to the rear package shelf. The Rally wheels were sourced from the AMT '67 Impala kit as I liked that they are slightly deep-dished. I added several details to the engine and engine compartment, once again as I would prefer the car to be. Comments and/or criticisms are welcome.

Both of these builds look great! Just like you'd see on a Friday or Saturday night at the local 1/4-mile dirt track! Nicely done, and welcome to the forum!

Has anyone heard any update for when these kits might start hitting the store shelves? -
AMT 1956 Ford Stravaganza (picture HEAVY)
'70 Grande replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Model Cars
Agreed! All are excellent, excellent builds! The fit on each build's opening doors is outstanding! They're all so good, that it becomes a tough choice, but that custom Turquoise one is the standout of the group to me, too! -
Has anyone got one of these new reissues yet? I've got a couple of quick questions if you have this recently reissued kit.

Great looking build! I agree; the darkened-chrome really enhances the overall look of this build! Your paintwork looks excellent, too! Here's an idea for you, DumpyDan; send each of those (5) pre-painted Yenko Camaro kits out to some forum members here that would gladly finish 'em up for you! I'll be the first to volunteer... LOL!

Really, really like this build! The weathering work is outstanding, and the paint-detailing on the interior is outstanding as well! I agree; it looks like a 1:1; nicely done!

SOME CURRENT ROUND 2 INFO TODAY...
'70 Grande replied to AC Norton's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Funny thing about that is I don't think this, (molded-in-Yellow), Bulldozer will have Caterpillar/CAT identification decals inside the box, because the costs for using the Caterpillar trademark/logo are more expensive than buying the rights to reproduce the Coca-Cola trademark/logos! -
I am gathering parts for a 1/25 '69 Ford Torino Drag Car build, and I'm curious which 1/24 or 1/25 kits had the best representation of the April 1968-released, Factory-stock 1:1 Ford 428 Cobra Jet engine. Below, I've listed a small number of kits that came with this motor, but am curious which kit out there might be the most-accurate representation. 1/25 Revell 1969 Ford Mustang Super CJ, (soon to be reissued) 1/25 AMT 1968 Shelby Mustang GT-500 1/25 AMT 1969 Ford Torino, (or Talladega Torino) 1/24 Monogram 1969 Ford Talladega Torino 1/24 Monogram 1969 Shelby Mustang GT-500, (or convertible) Are there any other kits that have this engine that might be even better/more-accurate? Looking for opinions... thanks!

This is a fantastic build! There is so much to like about it! I have a theory regarding why there weren't many Olds and Buicks back in this era; "familiarity". (Is that a word)? As I'm sure you already know, at that time there were many one-off race cars built by small race shops that were hopeful their race car build might find some success on the Nascar tracks. But, I also think many of those small race car shops built cars that they had already seen reach the finish line successfully, and those cars were the more common Chevelles, Monte Carlos and Torinos built by the bigger race car shops. It was pretty easy to see those "successful" cars up-close every Sunday, and also gather information when it comes to fabrication and building one of those more-popular brands; those race cars were easy to get familiar with. The 1:1 Olds and Buicks of the era would have been just-as-good of a platform and powerplant to start with, but they also would have required more modification, creative fabrication and build-hours to get a race car on the track; why not go with the familiar and more-easily-researched Chevys and Fords and start building a race car based off of those platforms. Just my 2-cents...

A beautiful build! To my eye, everything looks "right on the money!" Paintwork, stance; it all looks excellent !!!
