Hobby Shops... Are They Viable Today?
Daddyfink replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Our LHS went out due to poor management, bad economy and a bad location. Sad,but true. The next LHS is mostly an R/C shop and all the model car guys that worked there are gone. And as far as the viable question goes, only viable if they are the best stocked and most encompasing one around. Little ones can not do it on charisma alone anymore. And the Wal Mart deal does not hold any water around here as they do not stock models anymore. Our hobby is a shrinking demographic and it is hard to cater to folks who are not there. -

Other modelling genres

Military Aircraft and some Sci Fi models. I try to keep it diverse and open minded. But, as I used to say, if it is plastic and I can glue it together, I'm in! -
Got a THULE trailer hitch bike rack for my girlfriends camping trailer! Then I went by the LHS where I found nothing to buy. Really

The Importance of Paying Attention, Illustrated
Daddyfink replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
As weird as this may seem, I am with Bill on this one. My recollection of the incident was not as fresh as I thought and I was called on it, a bit tersely, but, called on it. At least I had some of it right. It happened and both planes where involved! But to limit what we say on this section would be contra productive to what it is for. This area, as far as I know, is to keep these sort of topics off the other areas. And that is good and yes, we may not agree or get it right, but it will be contained here. Please do don't stifle speech on here because we sometimes get a bit heated. Afterall, that is part of the deal sometimes. Jesse C. -

Where in post seven is the NTSB report? And yes, citing information with an image can explain the situation rather easily before causing all types of emotions. Otherwise it is just shock value. And where does it state that this is an old accident? Just asking! -

Well, I was mostly going from memory and should have looked it up again. Thank you for correcting the record! Mr. Engwer! Maybe you should have posted the circumstances of what happened to go along with the pictures. Or where you not paying attention? -

This incident happend at Oshkosh, Wis. during their big air show back in 2006. The Avenger was doing S-Turns when the small homebuilt pulled out in front of it. The Avenger pilot and passenger, his wife, never saw the small plane veer in front of them until it was too late. -
Great trade with Kobuzz AKA Scott! Will gladly trade with him again!

Looking good! Paint ideas?

Ever since the Blue Max was done, they have used that chassis on all their subsequent releases. The old chassis is not bad as long as you keep the body down!

Models in the movies
Daddyfink replied to ReptileGuy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, lets see. We have a ton of model airplanes on sticks in Top Gun. My friend Skip Samples built quite a few of them for the real program and some where used in the movie! An old episode of Starsky and Hutch has one of the bad guys building an AMT Rat Packer Nova with only glue. Nice white and chrome model! -

Daddyfink replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My motto is "Support your local Gunfighter!" We are losing so many contest in So Cal area. Either to lack of support or local goverment making it too costly to have a show. I make the shows when I can and recently they have been great for thinning out what I don't need and finding replacements for them! I usually enter models just to help fill out tables since I never expect to win anything. I am happy with just a thumbs up! And the social aspect is great for catching up with folks you only see at shows or once in a while. -

Great trade with Casey! WIll gladly trade with again!

Larson's 68 was a one piece body. Most funnies, even the one piece types, have panel lines on them. Some may have gone smooth, but most kept them just to add the the "Stock" aspect of the cars represented. .

How about the postings being about actual kit reviews and not about speculations on kit announcements. I don't mind discussions about kits, but, page after page of speculations gets pretty boring. Like the thread on the new Ford Pick Up from Moebius. The kit has not been done yet but we have a 26 page thread on it! And the HEMI Cuda has 37 pages!! Just my thoughts
