Ed Roth's '56 Ford Pick-up by Revell
Daddyfink replied to Austin T's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Well, you can do a Volare front end swap, a big rear window conversion and some serious body work! That should make it better! -
Shelby Movie? Let the nightmare begin!
Daddyfink replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
He originally wanted to play Enzo Ferarri in a bio pic about the Commendatore! He does have the nose for that one! -
Look out Banksy! That is awesome! NIce job!!

I sometimes buy old boxes and place new'er releases, with boring boxes, in them to make them complete again! Otherwise they get recycled.

Who makes the best model kits nowadays?
Daddyfink replied to Route 66's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think this needs to be moved to General section. -
Revell Chassis, and judging by how straight it appears, it is the newer one piece version. As for the slick, they started using those with the Revell Blue Max Mustang release. Replaced those wonderful, , two piece slicks! Revell needs to tool up some new bodies if they want to keep re-releasing those kits!

Abandoned Race Cars
Daddyfink replied to Deathgoblin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, some of them are not exactly abandoned, lost maybe, but not abandoned. The Daytona Coupe had a crazy story, but it was in a storage unit for years. http://www.nvsaac.com/gallery/missing_daytona_coupe.htm And some of those F-1 cars look like promo units that where not used for racing at all. -
Welcome Back!

Nice build of a very tempermental kit. This kit clearly shows what can happen when not everyone is paying attention to what he other guy is doing. Tom West did the technical parts of these kit and supplied Accurate Miniatures with the building instructions and other details. The "Engineers" did not follow his instructions as they should have and this is what happened.

Seeing how the tooling is good from the last issues as a Comp Coupe and the Ramchargers kit, they could just open the gate on the tooling for the swoopy body and issue it as a generic dragster or just leave the body in the kit as a surprise! . Chuck is making the decals and almost everything else has to be changed out to make it correct.

When will Revell show us what they got?
Daddyfink replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This thread needs to die. -
Thanks guys, it is almost done! I applied some vintage style decals to the side flanks of the engine. I know the movie car had them along the back of the body work, but, I rarely have ever seen any swoopy body with decals back there. Just a few more details and it will be done. I promise! LOL!

Prudhomme Carefree Dragster questions
Daddyfink replied to tony9409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Actually, the slicks are pretty close to what they should be for that scale and era of car. If it was running Lee filters, they would be white http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60984 -
So that is how they look like built. Pretty wild! So, I have most of an original Gang Busters Chevy kit and I wonder if this has any of the parts to try and finish one?

slight rant about differences
Daddyfink replied to wagonmaster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't blame IPMS for the lack of car builders or for them to be rather dismissive about car modelers. It is the lack of car builders in IPMS that has led to us being second rate citizens, until we get off our butts in gear and do something about it. The San Diego IPMS has a yearly show and the car portion was always a bit dismal and not very well judged, until the San Diego Model Car Club joined in and now runs that part of the contest. Yes, the club had to join IPMS and only the officers, and maybe one or two others, are members, but it was us speaking up and joining that changed some attitudes in our local IPMS. And it goes back to the cheapness of the car builders. Most do not want to pay dues for anything. And I know plenty of deep pocket, anal retentive detail freaks who are car builders. So that goes both ways as well! -
Very nice! I need to get me one!

slight rant about differences
Daddyfink replied to wagonmaster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know how many times someone has stepped up to produce some nice aftermarket piece for car modelers, from decals to bodies, and the first reactions are positive. When does it come out? I am getting so many of these, cast them, print then, make them and we will buy it!! And then they make it, and only a few buy it. So, do you still expect these folks who make the aftermarket stuff to keep making it? I wouldn't! Some do it out of their passion for the hobby, but, economically, they usually get bit in the butt for it. They have to recoup their cash to keep making stuff, and if you don't buy it, there is no more cash. There are those that strive for to get as close to perfect on their builds and most of them have the incredible skill to scratch build what they need. And they will also step up and buy said products if they are well done. So please, stop the lamenting over the lack of aftermarket parts for our part of the hobby if you are not willing to support in the way it really counts, with your wallet! -
Very nice! And those parts are really nice and well done!

Once again, thank you for the kind comments. I would like to build a matching '32 to book end this one along with the Hunt Bros. Dragster. Then maybe Falfa's 55
