New paint application for models?
unclescott58 replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This same video was posted here a year or two ago. Still it's pretty cool. -
I know of fake scoops before the Caribbean. But, I think you might be right about this Harry. From what I remember, the scoops were open on that hood. Still not a ram air setup. But, open none the less. A buddy of mine just sold his '53 Caibbean this summer. I wish could go back a take a look at it now. The first truly functional hood scoops I can think of are the '64 Dodge Ramchargers, Fairlane Thunderbolts and A/FX Comets. "Regular" street car, the '65 GTO.

Wrong Big Foot. That I wouldn't date. ? Then again, maybe I'd have better luck if I did. ?

Now that's funny too!

Ah, good. Somebody gets it. Though I do think others were getting it too.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
unclescott58 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Sure there are similarities. Then who copied who? Look at the front suspension of an early Rambler. Then look at Falcon again. It looks to me that the Ford product may be a copy of American Motors car, if your going to look at it that way. Close in looks they may be. But, Rambler and Javelin do not share parts with Falcon. We're Comet, Fairlane, Mustang, Cougar, Maverick, Granada, Monarch, and Versailles do. I can see people not fully understanding that the chassis components look simular between Falcon and Javalin, and turning that into "that they do share chassis components." I've heard people claim weirder things than that at car shows. Just because they misunderstood a simple, but somewhat related comment. It should be noted that Nash was one of pioneers of the unibody in the US. And used it on their Rambler before Ford used it on the Facon. Again, who is copying who here? -
Yea, I think I may have dated her once than. ?

???? AMC's Javelin on the same platform? I think not. They may look simular, but are not the same. Pull a Hollanders parts exchange manual. You'll find the Javelin shares little to nothing with the Falcon or her sisters. Now note. I sail "little to nothing". AMC was known to buy some components from other car companies. Things like Chrysler transmissions and GM steering racks, etc. But, the big parts of the car. The overall structure. Chassis, engine and body are pure AMC. -

The link you've included above is quite good. Other than I don't agree with his personal opinions on the '71 - '73 Mustangs and Cougars. The correct facts are all there. When you see what they did with Falcon platform, it puts Falcon in a whole new light. And let's not forget the Austailan Falcon variations. Falcon really was a remarkable design. -
"Road stander". That's a good one Danno. I like that! It's in the right vein of humor as me denying that road runners (or is it roadrunners?) exist. Again, even though I know they are really real. When talking with people from the southwest, I will continue accusing them of trying to pull a hoax on us outsiders. ? On a serious side. It would be cool to see one in real life. They are very cool looking birds. Thanks to Ed for proving more great photos. And by the way, they should be Arizona's state bird. Much better and cooler looking tha a cactus wren. That does not look much different from other wrens around the United States.

Beany's Drive Through

We've got Chic-fil-A in the Twin Cities too. I guess I just have to quit complaining. -
By the way Ed. Your avatar, or what ever they call it, is of a road runner, right? Now I know they are real. In fact they are Arizona's state bird, if I remember correctly? But, I like to kid around with people from southwest about how the road runner has to be made up. Like the Jackalope, or something. Because as many times as I've been to Arizona and New Mexico, I've never seen a live one standing by the side of the road or any place else. I see a lot of quail and other birds by the roads in Arizona. And I do believe I've seen a stuffed road runner or two. But, I've also seem stuffed jackalopes. And I know they're not real. So, I think it's time for all of you guys in the southwest, to quit trying to fool us out of state people with these road runner stories, and come clean. Or else I'll have to take you guys snipe hunting in the north woods of Minnesota some night. We all know the only real Road Runners were those built by Plymouth. ?

We too have Five Guys. And your right Bill, they are very good. I guess we don't have it so bad after all. -

Are sure about the above Art? I don't know about '64 and '65, I'm going to have to do a little research on that. But, I do know that the '60 - '63 Comet wagons shared the same wheelbase with all Falcon and Ranchero models. That was 109.5". The other Comet models, the sedans, hardtops and convertibles rode on a 114" wheelbase. Okay, I quickly went and pulled out my copy of the Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975. It indicates that all of the '64 and '65 Comets and Falcons rode on the same wheelbase as they had in the previous 4 years. No change. 1966 with the new bodies, Falcon coupes and sedans moved up to a 110.9" wheelbase. Falcon wagons, 113". Comet which now shared the Fairlane body for '66, moved up a 116" wheelbase which it shared with Fairlane, on all models except the Fairlane and Comet wagons. Which then rode on the same 113" wheelbase as the Falcon wagons. -

Unfair! You've got In and Out Burgers and Culvers too? Life is just not fair. We do have White Castles here in the Twin Cities at least. But, as much I like White Castle sliders, I'd rather have In and Out burgers. Good food and great t-shirts. In and Out is one of the best. -

Until about 10 years ago you guys still had a Shakeys Pizza in Rochester. Loved Shakeys Pizza. Grew up with one in my home town of Columbia Heights, a suburb of Minneapolis. But, it closed down in about 1980. In the 90's and early 2000's friends and I would make special trips from time to time, down to Rochester just to eat Shakeys Pizza. It may not have been the greatest pizza in the world. But, it was unique and we liked it. I miss Shakeys. -
Ah. But using parts from Modelhaus you can easily convert the Galaxie back to the LTD. As I did recently.

Where are good restaurants in your town? I know your town, it's nowhere as big as the Twin Cities. And we don't have any really good or special restaurants up here! ? Back to Ray. Sorry Ray, this area was settled by cheap Germans and Scandinavians. Basic meat and potatos kind of people. Unwilling to try interesting things. As Steve noted we only have the basic chains around here. Nothing interesting like In and Out, or another of my favorites, Steak and Shake. We're lucky that we have Poeyes, with their spicy chicken. Oh! Hold on. We do have one good chain up here that started over in Wisconsin. Culvers. They've expanded a lot in the last 15 years or so. And they are very good. Again basic fair. Mainly burgers. They also have great chicken and fish. And they fairly famous for their frozen custard. So not all hope for good fast food has been lost up here. Culvers is the one bright spot up here. -

Doing some research on line. There is a tie between Beany' Drive Through and the puppet show Time For Beany. The Beany and Cecil show was basically a cartoon version of Time For Beany. With most of the same characters. Lots good stuff on line about both shows. And clips of both shows on YouTube.
