  1. Good looking fleet. But, you to get to work and finish the others. The AMT kit may not be overly detailed, I'm sure compared to the other Corsair kits out there. But again, I'm pretty happy with results. Also did you see my latest acquisition, in the "what did you get non-automotive model thread?" A few more upcoming builds. I'd love hear your thoughts on that.
  2. After watching hpiguy's great review on YouTube last night, I had to order Snoopy and his Sopwith Camel, and the Red Baron and his Fokker. A few people complain about how Round 2 does nothing but reissue old kits. Atlantis seems to do the same. Well, Round 2 and Atlantis seem to be getting quite a bit of my money on a regular basis. Now that I can afford to buy those kits I wanted as kid. So, I hope Round 2 and Atlantis keep going in the directions they are.
  3. As some here know, I love airplane models. Maybe not as much as cars. But, I do like them a lot. So, I could not pass this one up when I saw on eBay. It has my two of my all time favorite commercial planes ever in it. The Boeing B-377 Stratocruiser, and the Lockheed L-1049 Super G Constellation. Plus, the well liked, and respected, Douglas DC-3, and Boeing B-314 Clipper. Four very cool commercial airliners. Back from when flying was a special and glamorous was way to go. I like that each plane comes with a set of decals for at least two different liveries for each. Three come with Pan Am markings. My all time favorite airline. The Connie does not. It comes with decals for TWA or Qantas. But, I do know of an aftermarket vendor who makes Pan Am decals for Connie kits in this scale. So, I'll be buying a set soon.
  4. I've been waiting to hear from you Snake. I respect your opinion, especially when it comes to model airplane. And agree. It didn't come out half bad. The canopy is the only thing I'm not really happy with. And as noted before, I may have to change that in the future.
  5. A quote from a 1959 Cadillac salesman manual. "From the smartly textured, vinyl-coated fabric covering its steel top, to its deep, looped-pile, nylon blend, Tangier quality carpeting, nothing has been overlooked in making the Eldorado Seville the world's most luxurious Coupe." So there is nothing rare about an Eldorado Seville with a vinyl roof. One with out a vinyl roof? That would be rare. The '59 Eldorado Seville was the only Caddy that year with a vinyl roof. It was not an option on any other model for '59.
  6. Standard air bag suspension failed on the left side only.
  7. Here are some more photos of Starship One in its various paint schemes, and various music acts names on it.
  8. I've got this kit waiting in the wings. I will be building mine to represent how the exact same plane looked in Bill Bixby's 1973 TV series, The Magician. Despite what the article below says, the real plane was not borrowed from the National Guard. It was Starship One as painted up at the time. The scenes of his Corvette being driven in the back of the plane, may have used a National Guard cargo (C-130?) plane for filming. But, the exterior shots were all of the the Starship One in its present paint scheme of the time.
  9. Here are photos of the real plane in action.
  10. Just finished this one up in the last few days. Overall I'm happy with it. It's painted with Tamiya "Color for Aircraft", rattle can spray paint. AS-8 Navy Blue (US Navy). Decals are BarracudaCals, F4U-1 Birdcage Corsairs part 1. The decals from that set I used were, "F4U-1 Corsair. Bu no. 03821 "White 485" OTU VF-4". Representing a plane used for final phase of training, before going into combat, at NAS Jacksonville, FL in February of 1945. Im very happy with BarracudaCals decals. They're easy to use, and look very good. AMT's kit itself, is okay. Not up to the standards of hardcore World War II model aircraft build, I'm sure. Other than the fit of the tail to the fuselage, it's good enough for me. The only other thing I'm not happy with is my detailing of the canopy. I used blue and black Sharpie markers. And I'm not 100% happy with how that turned out. The canopy is not glued in, so I may try to change that sometime down the road.
  11. This one takes the cake. I've now seen everything. It was too strange to pass up. I found this at a local hobby store a few hours ago. At first I thought, "why?" But, the more I looked at it, the more I thought I had to buy it. It's going to be fun explaining this to people when they see it!
  12. I just finished building mine in the last few days. And despite the vent wings, I kind of like the looks of the kit otherwise. It's off. But not as bad as I expected. In general it looks okay.
  13. I wish there was a way for this kit to be brought back. It's still one of coolest looking race cars ever.
  14. Fun thread to read. And a great review/look at the kit, Tim. I'm excited by this one. I already have one on preorder. I love the old style, simple kits like this. I'm okay with the molded in headlamps. I like the simple chassis with metal axles and screws to hold them in place. They help make them lined up and sit level. Even as a kid, I could build a pretty good look replica of the real car using these kits. And they held together after they were done. Very few parts to fall off after were finished. I love them.
  15. Ow! I just when eBay to see about ordering one. The price is a little more than I'm willing for a kit of that particular car in that scale.
  16. Cool. Another kit to hunt down and add to the collection.
  17. The street version of the BMW M1 is going on my want list.
  18. Thank you both. Those are good suggestions. Had our on-line model car club meeting two nights ago. Got basically same advice from the guys there. Drilling out and using wire the same basic diameter as the vinyl tubing. That seems to be best suggestion.
  19. F*** IT! Those BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH plug wires can not be put on! Or, in the long run, stay on. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH! I hate when things like this happen. I'm 62, almost 63. I've been models since I was 7. I should be able to do this!
  20. Yes I did. It didn't seem to help. But I have good news. I tried a little soap. Between that, the OptiVisor, and a little patience, I was eventually able to get the coil wire on. Now we'll see what I can do with the plug wires. I'm hoping this will work. I like the looks of the vinyl tubing for the coil wire and the two radiator hoses so far.
  21. Back to these kits. How does one install the vinyl tubing given in this kit for the spark plug wires? I'm presently building AMT's 1/16 scale '65 ('64 1/2) Mustang. But, I can not get the vinyl tubing to go on to the nubs provided for them on the coil or distributor. It's too tight. I've tried a small nail to stretch open the tubing some more. But, as soon as I pull out the nail, it immediately goes back to it's original diameter. And will not fit on the plastic nubs. Any ideas? I've talked to a couple of guys in our local model car club. Neither of them had an answer. If it's impossible to use the kits "wiring," I may just build the kit without any engine wiring at all. That detail does not matter to me that much. It would be nice to use it. But, I'm not going to substitute it with something else if it does not work.
