ALF Fire Chief Updated 9/21
kilrathy10 replied to kilrathy10's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Well, I got a lot more done, today... With a tropical storm out in the Gulf, we've gotten some pretty good rain down here, so painting will have to wait... Although, here, in Houston, that may just be this weekend...? I had to get creative with the suspension on this one... ? Reason being is two fold... I needed to make it to where the Moebius wheels and tires would fit (and roll), AND I just didn't feel like carving up a perfectly good kit, just to snag the suspension pieces out of it...I think it came out pretty good as these babies will roll nice and easy and take up all the extra stress this thing will have on it with me "playing" with it all the time when I get done.... Man those floats look pretty cool... One of the reasons Moebius is high on my list for model company of the year....? And, Oh, and I guess, one more thing is I'll probably never turn this thing upside down, so it's basically a curbside, anyway... So, three reasons... Got it mocked up, and this thing is pretty long.... My very rudimentary front suspension My tag axle assembly... Again, very basic... And, the mock-up.... I can't wait to paint this thing!!!! -

Oh, that's purely aesthetic... Not for support...I just don't like the way the outriggers are so much lower than the rest of the truck.... It will be painted black or the body color... I haven't decided, yet... It's meant to represent side skirts like you'd find on the undersides of the fairings on trucks.... And, no, you wouldn't see that, either... LOL!!! ? -

OOOOHHH!!!! That is GORGEOUS!!!!! I really like the way you painted the fenders and the tanks the same color... Not that it hasn't been done, before, but your execution of it is seriously awesome... I'm really diggin' this one... Outstanding job..... That's a good looking rig, Bro....- 13 replies

Got a smidge more done, today... Cab and rear boxes are just loose fit to facilitate painting... The overall length is pretty impressive... I think I may have to pattern a race rig after this one... I see another future project coming... ? -

While searching for an old build, I ran across this oldie but goodie... It would seem I never commented on it, though... This is a brilliant build...Great job on that old Dodge...Did you bring that one to contest, one year? I can't remember if I, actually saw this one in person... I don't know why I don't have one of these old car haulers in my collection... Especially, since they've reissued the darned thing... I need to get one... -

Yeah... That's a nice combo...They look good behind our rigs... We just allowed to have them much longer, is all....I have at least three of these built up and unaltered... I need to go retrieve them from my dad's warehouse and take some pics of them... -

Thanks a lot, Bill... In the near future, I'm going to add some chrome foil to the lower portion of the trailer to carry the fairing dressing all the way... Thanks, Force... I'm more into NHRA than Nascar.... Judging by your name, you are too... ? Thanks for the info... It always amazes me at how much knowledge there is on this forum... Thanks, Vince... I appreciate that... I concur... Thank you, Larry.... -

Oh, yeah... Dude!! I WELCOME your input on this project...Although, this is strictly flight of fancy, for me, I do want it to look as though it could be built in the real world... I was checking those out, and I had these in mind... Per the link you gave me, actually... I was thinking about these with the oversized pads... -

BRBO 2020 ProStar and Race Trailer
kilrathy10 replied to kilrathy10's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Actually, Enrico, that is what I used to build my 53' race tralers out of... I'd take a couple of the Italeri race trailers and combine them to make one big one... I did a few of these until I found a good source for .060 styrene plastic... I don't emulate race teams as decals for them can be quite expensive to have made up, and most companies are too afraid of Copyright laws (with good reason) to do them... -

I think these are the main inspirations for this build... Keep in mind that the truck I'm about to build is my interpretation of what I think this truck could look like... Totally not trying to "replicate" any particular example of these... I will retain the closed cab, but with the separation body work in the middle of the dual axle... Pictured below.... -
