Getting My Fix, Store or E-bay ?
Gramps2u replied to Chris White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I shop local first, Then if I am searching for an old release I search the internet. There are the ebay stores with good prices all around & I do shop with them for Detail & Resin items. Like everyone else Ebay shipping has become expensive. Some auctions charging at nearly the price of a kit if not more. Plain & simple, Those sellers I do NOT trade with. Just a way to make extra profits on the sale IMO . -
Very clean! Inspiring to dig mine off the shelf.

For the steering, The Cab over semi trucks I used to drive, KW's had Air assist steering to allow the cab to tilt forward for engine access. The use of pneumatic slave cylinders and air lines, No steering column attached to a steering gear box to complicate the issue. The AMT KW cab over kit is the exact year I drove, if you could access one of those perhaps it might be a correct replica. Other linkage components were done entirely with cables. At least on the COE KW I drove anyway. I.H used shifter cables on their COE's. Hope this helps. BTW, keep on keeping on with the build, Its looking great! I had one of those air assist slave cylinders fail on me once on a run... Talk about ARM STRONG steering LOL! -
Model room fire safety?
Gramps2u replied to Gramps2u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I myself Have an ABC class extinguisher as well as a smoke detector. My area for improvement would be paint storage. I use an old steel desk for my work bench & one drawer is dedicated strictly to the paint. Not the safest place. I Like the Idea of a kick can, Spontaneous combustion is a real threat to us all. I don't use cloth shop towels, I have been using paper towels easy to dispose but still a risk. Wrapping the #11 blades in tape, not a bad idea ! My extinguisher is large enough to give two options, Extinguish the fire, or clear a path for exit. I notice my air filter gets clogged up with over spray & creates fumes long after the paint has dried. I replace my paint booth filters after every 4 uses. keeps the stench down. -

Rattle Cans - who still uses them?
Gramps2u replied to tiking's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got one for my grandson he used it a couple of times and tossed it aside and uses his finger. -
I know there is separation & settling of paint, I am not sure what kind of shelf life aerosol paint's have. I have some that are still good after a decade then others are not nothing but a new target to shoot at. Skip, Great Idea on the paint rack for Aerosol paints!

After noticing in the spray can thread of how many of us have a large stash of paint & chemicals for our hobby needs . My question is : How many Builders have a fire extinguisher on hand in your work area ? Basic extinguisher or a class ABC?
-
I keep Cans down to a bare minimum. Fire hazard & clutter issues . It would be nice to post some affordable home made easy DIY paint rack plans posted. Just a thought...

On mine, I cut out a portion of the floor board and made a dog house as the 1:1 would have for the clearance for the engine. The Big flat head that comes with the 2n1 kit, The aftermarket High performance heads are very large as for the velocity stacks on the three deuce set up is a little high BUT ! I solved this issue by carefully cutting the front engine mounts out and dropping them to the bottom edge of the frame adding some styrene to make them "look believable" and filed down the rear mount just ever so slightly to level out the Big Flat head that came with the 2n1 kit. Problem solved... The dog house is still needed, But not a huge monstrous unit. A mild modification was only needed. Hope this helps. The Chevy mill, that also came to mind but I wanted to be some what of a Purist and keep the High performance flat head. Thanks for sharing your ideas! -
