I have an old Heller 1/8 BMW 100RT motorcycle kit that's pretty awesome- the engine cylinders are built by stacking individual cooling fins using a little jig supplied in the kit.
I've used both pure denatured (SLX) alcohol and 91% isopropyl alcohol and found that the 91% works better as the water helps to ameliorate the rather strong drying agent in Tamiya acrylic, allowing it to flow out and lay down smoother. Same with brush-painting.
Yes, when I'm shooting acrylic. I use Berryman's B12 Chemtool carb cleaner when I shoot lacquer- it's WAY aggressive, but haven't had a problem as my Badger 100GF has a teflon seal.
I put everything in a gallon ziploc bag, spray in the oven cleaner and seal it up, then the fumes (which I've found are as effective as the actual liquid) are contained.
When it's done I just open the bag and fill it with water and dump the slurry out, and rinse the body or parts with water. I don't even need to use gloves that way. I also rinse out the plastic bag so it can be re-used.
"Move forward" was my friend's only cry
In deeper to somewhere we could lie
and rest for the day
with cold in the way
were we ever colder on that day
a million miles away
we seemed from all of eternity
