  1. Well, after......WAY to many years, I'm calling it done. My first big rig build from start to finish !!! This was a HUGE learning curve, and thanks to all who persevered along with me. I do hope to get some out door shots as well. I have learned that when the instructions say to glue the lower radiator hose to the engine BEFORE gluing said engine in place, it means BEFORE. I also came to the conclusion that all the chrome pieces needed stripped, cleaned up/and or filled, then Alcladed. I also learned that I should have replaced my dried out putty BEFORE getting back into this build, but what the hey, it was a first time truck as well as a slump buster. I also see that I need to work on all the fiddly bits that have to line up, like the steps, steps, more steps, and the mirrors. I honestly do not know why my hood hinges raised the level of the hood up. So, even with all its imperfections, I am pleased with the outcome...and VERY pleased just to finish it. Here are the late night , impromptu photo booth, FINISHED pics !!
  2. It depends what kind of paint it is. I believe that brake fluid is the only thing that will remove lacquer.
  3. Thanks Jim ! Its starting to look like a truck, yay !!!
  4. Thanks for the support everyone. I have the hood and cab mounted, but the learning curve just boomeranged back on myself. I somehow got the hinges for the hood off just a hair, and when I assembled the hood before paint, I somehow got the two halves pulled together just enough at the bottom that it is pinching the cab and wants to pop the cab loose each time I try and open the hood. So it may never be displayed with the hood open. lol
  5. Glad I can give back a little bit to this great group of modelers. It is a 1958, runs great, and is for sale if anyone is interested.
  6. Sorry it took so long, but here are a few more pics. The rear axle is the drive axle, and the front axle is powered by a belt that is ran by a large pulley inbetween each set of duals.
  7. Oh man, oh man, oh man, oh man, oh man......
  8. Still plugging away, and running out of parts. Here is a mock up. I added a clear orange wash to the amber pieces to darken them up a bit. I am NOT looking forward to the mirrors.....
  9. All I can say is WOW !!! All it needs is a big green O on the doors !!
  10. Love it !! I came from the land of logging (Toledo,OR) and have been collecting a few log trailers to build up.
  11. I have one of these setups to do also. My father-in-law drove for them. So I will be watching this build for sure.
  12. I will get some pics for you sometime this week.
  13. Thanks !! James, I airbrushed the carpet and dash brown, the rest of the interior tan, and hand painted the instrument panel, and silver highlights.
  14. Yea, lots of yellow. I'm an Oregon Ducks fan and after they trounced the Cowboys I told the owner we were going to paint it GREEN and yellow. JT, you have no idea...this thing was ROUGH. Robert, thats what I was saying.
  15. Ok, a couple more updates. Other than the headlight lens and painting the latches, the hood assembly is finished. Interior is finished up. Just some basic detail painting.
  16. Ok, here are the rest of the parts painted last night...
  17. Ok, the guy who we are painting the stretched Pete for also has this sitting in front of his shop. It does run and drive and other than the front bumper seems to be original. It still has its aluminum frame and belt drive rear ends.
  18. Questions... did you use the front or rear position for the drive axle, and is all the frame extension behind the drive axle ? Thanks
  19. I have been tempted to buy one for myself. I do not know what its like in other states, but in WY you do not need a CDL if its for private use and less than 100 mile radius from home.
  20. The same guy who has this truck also has an old cabover I really like. I will get a pic of it over the weekend. Its still an aluminum frame and belt drive.
