Thanks for the suggestions, I ended up using 70% isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip and the sharpie came off with a little work. I then masked off the windshield and painted it black and it looks so much better. Thanks for the suggestions!
-
Dave: would those be the same as what you use to clean eye glasses?
-
I used a black sharpie to outline the windshield on a revell ferrari 458 and am not happy with the results at all. Now I want to remove the color safely on the "glass" and was wondering if anyone has a suggestion. I am going to mask off the windshield once the color is removed and paint it black.

testors one coat lacquers
majel replied to majel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys for the replies, since the general consensus seems to be at least 24 hours after work tomorrow I will try the clear coat. Is it like the color coat- a few mist coats and then a heavy coat, or is it truly a "one coat" clear? -
Sixty-two degrees today here in NW Arizona, can't beat it for the end of January!
-
How long do I need to let my wet coat of testors lacquer cure before I use their one coat wet look clear? This is my first attempt at using a clear coat, and I'm not sure if it needs to cure days, hours or just when to apply the clear.

Has anyone built the new Revell Ferrari 458 yet? I just picked up the kit after reading the review in November's MCM, and was impressed that everything was packaged separately in plastic bags. I also ordered the Hobby Design photoetch detail set, haven't gotten it yet. Looking forward to finally building something this year. If anyone has built it yet I would appreciate input or tips.

I have had great luck with hobbylinc, they carry a great selection of paints and send out your order very quickly.

John: Incredible build as always! I would like to say your work is inspiring, but what it really does is make me wonder why I build models at all. All kidding aside, you have an amazing knack for portraying realism in scale. I would like to know what you used for the clear tubing from the kool box and also the tubing used on the fuel overflow, and where you purchased them from. Thanks

To all of our modeling compadres in Northeastern AZ and our friends in Nutrioso my wife and I will be praying for you. I'm sorry to hear that Tim and family had to evacuate, hope their home is safe and away from the fire line. Thanks for the update Dan and please let us know if there is anything we can do.

HOLY COW John!!! Having seen your work in person the last couple of years at DSC in Phoenix (missed seeing you this year), I must say you have definitely out done yourself on this one. Your work is always amazing and your scratchbuilding techniques are just ridiculously good. Thanks for posting all of the pictures, it is a great way for us hacks to get some tips and ideas.

I'm thinking about doing a '68 tubbed el Camino with a 350 or 502 Ross Gibson engine. I'm looking to build a car that is streetable, but just as comfortable at the drag strip. I've never used one of his engines and was wondering how the quality is and if they are worth the money.
-
Tim: That is more than "just an old dragster". That was a very well deserved win for best of show, hopefully it made up for your fairly dismal results in the raffles!! Congratulations on three very well deserved awards.

Dan: What time does registration end? I am driving down from Kingman in the morning and want to make sure I make it there in time to get a couple entrants in.

I am doing a two tone paint job on a Craftsman Nascar truck (red and black)using model master acrylics for both colors. My question is how long do I need to let the first layer (red) gas out before I mask it off and paint the black layer. Also, I am using model master acrylic clear coat over it all. Is this a good combination or should I use a different clear coat?

I am working on my first try at using detail parts such as AN fittings and I found a product from Top Studio (topstudiohobby.com) that seems to work fairly well. They are resin hose joints and come in small, medium, and large. I drill out the two ends large enough to fit the Pro Tech or Detail Master braided line I am using. It seems to work fairly well, although I have broken a few trying to drill them out, but I am pleased with the results. Gregg reviewed them in the Dec. 2010 issue of MCM.

I am in need of some instruction on how to assemble the machined aluminum specialties nascar air cleaner (mas 401). It has a top, bottom, deflector shield(?) and air cleaner material. I went on mas web site but it does not have any instruction sheets. Thanks in advance

Model Cars Magazine #154
majel replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't received my copy of #154 yet here in NW Arizona, but I'm out at the mailbox with great anticipation every day. I really don't care what the month says on the magazine as long as it arrives and gives me some enjoyment. I have owned my own business for 15 years so I can relate to Gregg and this magazine and forum being his "baby". Like him I work hard to provide a quality service to my customers, but you can't please everyone all the time. If people don't like the work I do they can go elsewhere, if you are not happy with the magazine you could also go elsewhere. It's just a magazine and it's just a HOBBY, nothing more, nothing less! -
I am looking for the red and blue paint colors for the Revell Gene Snow Vega. Slixx decals calls for Metro Automotive Finishes Matador Red and Matador Blue, metro has the matador red but not the blue. I would really like to find it using the same company for both colors whether it be in a spray, lacquer or enamel. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is Arrowhead Aluminum taking new orders yet? If not does anyone know where I can get a NASCAR fuel filler set-up? I am trying to build a mildly detailed Craftsman truck and can't find a fuel filler. Thanks for your help

John: I saw this and your other builds in Phoenix this past weekend. As usual your work is fantastic, your level of detail just blows me away!

a little update.. I enlisted today
majel replied to LVZ2881's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Congratulations James, and thank you for your willingness to serve and for your dedication to our country. My son spent four years in the Air Force and his enlistment was one of the proudest days of my life. I salute you! -
I am building a race gt-r that I want to show in already raced form with a bit of road oil, grease, etc. I used a black wash on the chassis which came out fairly good, but my problem is: the body is gloss black. What can I use to show race/road grime that will show up on the black body?

majel replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
John: I have seen your builds in Phoenix, and like all I have seen this one is fantastic. Your paint jobs and detail work are a great inspiration. Thanks for showing this build -
Glenn: I found a great article on the Hawaiian '69 Charger that shows some great how to pictures of the entire car. I found it on straightlinemodeler.org/snakepit/. Hope it helps
