It's a 396 for sure. I'm building that kit right now (in memory of Dad). I'm building it as closely as I can to his last "cool car" that he "gave up" for me - a 65 SS Impala in Evening Orchid Metallic, black interior, 283/4spd car (bought new) complete w/ chrome reverse rims/baby moon covers.
-
I finally had a chance to go through my kit (& examine it a little closer). Oh boy! - what did I get myself into! Looks like I will be "forced" to make at least a few upgrades along the build.

So after a conversation about the CBR with my son (who is a stickler for movie accuracy); I decided to change the build style of my Billy Madison 79 Trans Am and instead of upgrading things (eng/trans/wheels/etc...), I've decided to focus on replicating the original movie car. Now that's not to say Billy didn't think his TA had some "cool" mods...LOL !
-
What do you think, was Billy's car an Anniversary car - or maybe just had an Anniversary car interior in it? Either way, because of this year's theme I'm imagining acquiring the set car, so I think I'll keep the grey/silver interior and the fuzzy dice. LOL

decal film vs decal bonder spray

This is sort of related to a question... What brand(s) decal sheet (paper) are people using (hopefully with an inkjet printer) and having great success? I haven't had the best results with making my own decals, so any info. and/or tips would be great! -
My plans to wake up Billy's Trans Am include a power-plant upgrade by installing a ZL1 6.2L w/ Tremec auto trans.

Everyone has really great ideas and this should be a great year! So just a tip...watch/pause your videos closely if you can. I discovered something interesting about Billy's car, it has what appear to be old school 5 spoke aluminum rims and larger tires in the rear. Whatever they are they certainly don't look like they're ready for an almost 3k journey. However, in homage of Billy the upgrades will be as close as possible. Another oddity is the silver/grey interior, which I just learned only came in the anniversary edition car.

This makes me laugh every time I see this scene in Billy Madison. So here's to you Billy, I'll be updating/refining your 1979 Trans Am for you.

I really like this one! Nice clean retro/classic style you went with! ? -
Nice! Wow, does that color just work on that car! ? Great job!
-
Very, very nice! ?

As a participate in this years event, I'd like to personally say congratulations OldMopars! You built one great model. Being that we worked with the same body, I give you tons of credit for opening the doors, then you detailed out the back area. Great job man!

Misha, that would be a great choice! I'm waiting for the "official results" to be announced so I can post my build idea too. -
Very nice and clean! Sharp car! ?

So what "mods" shall be permitted? or is it anything goes as long as it resembles the original car on the exterior ? Should we allow things like altered ride height, upgrading of wheels etc... -

I'm in for the TV/movie cars. Creativity thinking it would be pretty cool to restore/upgrade a retired Hollywood car to make the 3k journey quick, comfortable and reliable. My only caveat is the exterior should remain as close as possible to the original Hollywood car. These means the original (or similar) wheels, and no add-on like scoops, spoilers etc... Now, whatever you do under the hood and under the car; that's between you and the law. LOL
