I saw a brief documentary on the this "Eleanor" . If I recall correctly (11) cars were built - (5) were destroyed performing stunts in the film and (6) survived. I removed lettering from these vinyl tires (leaving in place only Good Year) using a flat file and then finishing the side wall with fine sand paper. Rubber tires would be more difficult but I would try the same technique.

I used flat stock and angle to create this notch in the passenger side inner fender. Similar techniques could be used to fill an opening just as you would on a 1:1 project. Before: After:

Yes, at least very close to it. The car was constantly being developed especially in the early years to solve aerodynamic issues.

A great hop-up would be to drop the BDA engine from the Esci/Revell/Italeri Escort kit into the Pinto. Here is the engine, significantly modified in my RS1800 build.

Yes they do come with nice tires. They are a little large for a 1/25 scale build. Here they are on my 'Cuda project.
