How much should model kits cost?
JordanFordF1 replied to Bob Ellis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't forget licensing fees to the car manufactures as well as lawyers that negotiate those fees. I hear plenty of people complain about model prices, especially the non-US companies ie Trumpeter, Tamiya, Revell of Germany etc. Never heard a complaint yet about Monogram models that are priced under $20. With me once the price goes over $25 I start thinking twice about whether I really want it but then again I have a stash of over 600 to work on already. -
Model Building Stereotypes
JordanFordF1 replied to MustangGuy23's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I returned to model building several years ago I was nervous about being seen buying a model. Later I joined the local model club and realized there are others with my same interest and not all of them are nerdy types. Our club president is an active duty reservist and another member looks like he could put a serious hurting on Vin Diesel. Since I work in a hoddy shop I see all types of people come in to buy models. I have yet to talk to anyone that outright calls them childish. There are non-modelers that are curious so I try my best to explain that what people build is three dimensional artwork. I'm surprised no one mentioned the Two And A Half Men episode where John Cryer is back into building models. Yes they portrayed him as a nerd but they do every episode. One more thing I build model railroads as well as dollhouses. If you want to really be embarrassed by your hobby try being a single guy walking into a dollhouse show alone. -
Does anyone know if there is availible decals made for Larry Minor's Otter Pops sponsored cars? How about the NHRA Safety Safari vehicles? Also was looking for the Jolly Rancher sponsored Top Fuel decals? Thank you

I have one of the original Snap-tite kits of the same truck (or it might have been a reissue by then). The box art shows it painted as the red-white-blue Nissan Racing colors used in desert racing for all of their factory sponsored trucks. The kit didn't have any decals with it even though it was factory sealed in plastic (or someone resealed it after stealing the decals). Does anyone know if there are aftermarket red-white-blue Nissan Racing decals out there? I'd love to build the new/reissue in racing colors.

Moby Dick H2 Hummer Limo

Seeing that first photo and then the finished truck... WOW! Did not expect it to look so nice from your intro. Excellent. -
I kind of took the question as overall disappointment rather than build quality so my choice is the Revell Jeep Rubicon. Granted I would have bought one just for those wheels and tires but I had actually planned on buying several before I opened the box. Come on curbside in this day and age? Well I got one and only one so well done Revell; less money for you, more money for me! Oh ya and I had to severely trim the roll cage to fit up against the windshield frame. So many dream builds down the tube with that model.

I was also looking forward to more updates. Having owned several Bajas and even raced a 5-1600 I have often thought about building a class 5 or 5-1600. Hope you get back to this before I finally get around to mine.

Paint it yellow and black and I'll have my old '67 back. I'm for the wide-eye front too but I'd be on board for buying this.

I just happened to run across his autobiography at a garage sale a month before he died and I bought it for $1. I wasn't a fan of his acting as much as I was his racing. Growing up in Las Vegas and having been a desert racer I will always remember him as just that an good actor a racing enthusiast but an excellent off road racer.

Great detail. I have one on order... now I can't hardly wait until it gets here.

Hobby Shops... Are They Viable Today?
JordanFordF1 replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My LHS owns the property/building it is in. Like rent/lease the better the location the higher the price so the above mentioned rent situation applies to buying property too. One thing I noticed here is buying versus shopping. Those supporting the Internet side of the coin are buyers not shoppers. Those supporting LHS's are shoppers. The difference? When you walk into a hobby shop you browse. You walk around even if you've been in the place a thousand times before you shop to see what is new and you might have missed before. The internet guys/gals are going after something specific. Go back and read posts here and it is obvious. Look at it this way. We'll use Squadron as the example but really any internet company will do. How many have ever sat in front of their computer and visited every single page on their website and shopped every single item they offer? None. It's even hard to do. The site is set up more for specific product searches than it is for shopping. When you shop you find items you didn't know existed but want. A much harder thing to do via the internet. Still don't understand the difference between shopping and buying, ask a woman. -
Okay I messed up the mix ratio apparently and now after two weeks the putty is still soft. Any suggestions for hardening before I completely remove it and start over? Thank you.

HobbyTown USA in Las Vegas is good. They have a pretty big selection of models. Located in a shopping center at Sahara and Decatur Ave. Have fun. -
"RUSH" the movie
JordanFordF1 replied to DavidChampagne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I knew I'd like the movie but I took a buddy who is not into racing. As we walked out he kept saying, "BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that was good, I need to buy that when it comes out on DVD, that really was a good movie." The theater was pretty empty for the showing we attended and you could tell the people there were car enthusiasts. Wish more non-auto/racing fans would take a chance. I'd like to see this movie have a decent box office take. -
Model Empire in West Allis, wi
JordanFordF1 replied to ERIK88's topic in Links to Aftermarket Suppliers
A question for any of you close enough to stop in Model Empire, what has happened to their catalog? Got a notice in the mail early in the year that the catalog would be late, around June of this year. Here it is almost Oct and no catalog. Hope I didn't get left off the list after all I've spent with them. Thank you. -

Branson Hobby Center 251 Saint James Street Hollister MO 65672 Despite the name it isn't in Branson but Hollister is less than two miles away. -
I just purchased some new stuff from Southern Motorsports Hobbies and noticed they have a line of race car kits marketed as DTR brand. I think they are actually manufactured by Revell. Anyone ever bought one of these kits? How are they?

My '67 wasn't a show bug but thank goodness it looked better than that. Great job. I wonder about the nice clean license plates though. Just registered?

It looks a lot better than is sounds. I like the brown.

As I understand it Lindberg has been purchased by Round2 recently. Anyone hear different? This came to me via an insider line at Hobbico. -
Modern Race Seat
JordanFordF1 replied to JordanFordF1's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Branson Hobby Center (formerly TPA Hobby) in Hollister. 251 Saint James to be exact. I work there (here) so I try and push the owner to keep up the model car inventory. Hope you stop by. -
Resin or other Off road wheels and tires - Baja
JordanFordF1 replied to CWD's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The Lindberg 1/25 Off-Road 4x4 F-150 kit has some fairly good BF Goodrich Mud Terrian tires, of course without the BFG lettering. Would work okay on rear but might be too wide for front. -
I hope someone can help me, I'm looking for a resin casting of a modern race seat but not having any luck. Reliable Resin is close. Looking for something along the lines of Beards or Mastercraft suspension seat. Any ideas? Thanks.
