Are rally drivers the best in the world?
om617 replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Elite rallydrivers and those in formula one is a very special type of humans. They are born with the lack of impulses "normal" people have,a six sense if you want. Where normal people by reflex brake or slow down, these people dont have this warning lamp in they`re head, but know by skill when to do it. And then there is the stamina,a normal person would never last 5 minutes in a formula one car at full potential. As for the rally driver it is the same, but here also it`s the mental stamina, you are basically throwing around a car in 120mph on a narrow dirt road by the trust in the co-drivers notes. A slip of concentration, only a tenth of a second and you are off. Not to be arrogant or anything, but someone with dragracing experience,no matter how many decades would never last 5 minutes in a formula one car. The reason these people are paid ridiculous amount of money is because they are extremely rare. I would call them superhumans, both mentally and physically. http://www.formula1.com/inside_f1/understanding_f1_racing/5298.html -
Hobby Design is some of the best in business when it comes to aftermarket parts and trans-kits. Very high quality. A more afordable option is http://www.eightyone81.com/category/products/rims/ Very nice quality parts here too. As for tires you can check out http://www.scaleproduction.de/ The shipping can be pricy, but maby if you contact them and are in for several sets they can give a good deal. Also here the quality is top notch. Not sure if this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. Had a bad accident but i hope i will be able to fix without stripping the body. As i was fitting the body to the chassis i wanted to use tiny drops of glue so it sit together like i want. Happend before when i lift by the roof you can feel the chassis slip. Anyway, this drop of glue found it`s way onto the body, from the molding behind the door and ran all the way down. This glue aslo makes the paint go off when you wipe it off I think i will attempt mask from the molding up,then respray the lower part one more time, since it`s metallic it`s fixable, but quite the throwback. I hope my neighbours did not hear me when it happend lol. I did an attempt at open up the side windows, not all the way but like they look rolled down a bit. Some pictures.

Most metallic base will dry flat no matter what. Other paints usually say in the description if it`s flat. Also some clear paint does dry flat, but again,it say so on the description. I cant give advice on other then my own experience, this also from only using Tamiya so far. All the metallics dry flat,so you will have to give it a coat of gloss clear (It`s called TS13). Most times it only require one coat of clear to shine real nice, but i have done 2 and even 3 coats. I wait 30mins between each coat of paint using the Tamiya rattle cans, this goes for clear as well. Never had any problems with cracs of such.

Looks really nice. Great job on masking and stripes. Those rims are good on any muscle car.
-
Thanks. Put some coats of clear on it today so maby some pictures later. Also i`m done with the front section where radiator and battery are mounted. Consider leave the engine compartment body color,i notice the original cars have the firewall bodycolor and the inner fenders semi gloss black.

When i started out i had trouble with fitment, the reason was because i did not prep parts before paint and test fitting them. Now things go together much more easy, even if it takes a little more time i feel it`s worth it when time comes to assemble. Now i start out with the chassis, then engine, interior and then paint and prep the body with foil and sometimes polish it. The final that goes on is glass and chrome. I do my best not to touch these parts, even use glows if i have to blackwash or put on some clear paints as indicators or so on bumpers. Also i appriciate all the tips and tricks learned on here, example those small things as drill tiny holes and use pins when you are going to mount tiny parts as hoses, mirrors, doorhandles etc on final assembly,it has eased the frustration level a great deal.

Little more progress on the Bel Air,inside is done. I found out the shifter was gone,so i had to replace it and make it look as original as possible. It`s not the first item that has been snagged from this kit I tried my best with foil on details, also i used decals from Scalemotorsport on the seats to make them stand out a little, the pattern isnt correct. Also i used some flocking on the floor, could not really make my mind on carpet color,so black it is. Here are some pictures. The chassis is more or less done, engine the same, but i need to put on a bracket for the alternator and make some final touch-up. I could not find the fuelpump for this engine, also i could not see it in the building sheet either,so not sure if i`ll just have to leave it out,it does not really show when things are put together. As usual things change as it goes along, but here is the final colors. I have to put on some coats of clear and then foil it. I have not decided on wheels yet,i guess you will see when it goes under glass. This is how it looks for now,i think it will nice with the two tone. Thanks for looking.

I remember when i was around 10 and was at my first US car meet, and people gather around one of these cars. The car was black, and a so called letter car with the special intakemanifoils, and i remember it was black with red interior and i did not get what the fuzz was about, the car was bland and ugly (i was 10 lol) compared to the ones with big fins and tons of crome. Now as i have grow older i find it to very elegant and design wise kinda modern looking compared to the competition. Sorry about the write up,but it is very fun to see a model of such car today, these must be as rare as the 1:1 cars. The black car Ron posted is pretty much a replica of the one i did see.

Fastest street legal car in america

Hemi is overrated, weigh more, cost more and does not go any faster. I think the fastest street legal car in world has a chevy in it -
