yeah, good point....I guess I was trying to get across the idea of true rarity still in perfect condition all round,,,a sealed example being even more scarce than an opened kit....sorry, hope this clarifies it, Steve..........the Ace....
-
....thanks, Richard....glad you could clarify that. I'm aware that many will jump in with thoughts and favorites they personally like, but I was starting this thread to get those valued opinions about truly RARE kits that are obscure at the best of times. muscle cars and drag cars is just the first of many topics we can discuss here,,,,the other subject matter can be discussed later. oh, by the way, your personal picks are kits that I certainly put in this category. I just banged out my 10 kits to get things rolling.....again, thanks....the Ace....

glad we are getting plenty of great opinions and chat on this thread......thanks to all.....the Ace....
-
....just for fun, try to think up your 10 picks of 1/25 scale only muscle/ drag car kits that you think are the rarest .....if 10 kits come to mind, we may get a better scope on many that some of us have long forgot.....no big scales, customs, trucks, etc, they can be discussed later in another thread,,,, so think up just 60s 70s performance cars if you can...has to be dozens we haven't thought of yet.......the Ace....

...for a great cause,,,and yours is a great build as well..........best,,,,the Ace....

.....all of your choices are excellent ones, and all very rare, tough to find killers. thank you both Bill and Richard for making lists to join in on this. Snake, both the 64 Tempest and GTO are very tough to find in mint condition, as is the 66 Skylark too. terrific input from both of you , and thanks for tuning in...........the Ace.......

I mentioned the Cobra coupe in my list, and your choices are all very rare and sought after kits as well, Mike. thanks for jumping in on this to list some of your holy grails....the Ace...

that's a good point, and no doubt Revell will be the one to produce it, if anybody. if any company makes it, it won't ever compare to the AMT original, it is crisp, and really nice overall.......the Ace....

you know, Steve, that 68 Coronet is very rare, but you do see them around at meets and ebay. the 69 Coronet seems to be less difficult to grab if you don't mind paying for it.....the Ace...
-
funny you say that, Bill, as I also was Hot Wheels happy during 68 at xmas too, but got 8 kits that were all built in about a week. as for the 68 CHEVELLE, it even drew big bucks 25 and 30 years ago at the model meets I used to travel to in the 80s and 90s, even bringing the 150 to 200 range back then.....the Ace...

ok, here are 10 that I would include in this discussion....AMT 69 COBRA HT.,AMT 68 CHEVELLE SS, JOHAN 69 GTX, JOHAN 68 JAVELIN, JOHAN 68 OLDS 442, JOHAN 70 ROAD RUNNER, MPC 68 FIREBIRD, MPC FEVERBEE F/C, MPC COLOR ME GONE 68 CHARGER F/C, MPC BOBCAT 68 GTO F/C.................oh, if I snuck in the 11th round I'd say most of the AMT DRAG TEAM sets from the late 60s fit in here too.....all just my opinions, lets hear yours.....the Ace...

hello to all my esteemed forum members and friends,,,,lets have a bit of fun mixed with all of your valued opinions for a poll of the top 10 RAREST, HARDEST TO FIND, 60s 70s era muscle car model car kits ever. Detroit made by AMT, MPC, JOHAN, etc.,,these can include any 1/25 scale stock, or drag type piece you consider truly scarce. oh, lets try it this way, your list should be considered that any of your choices are all mib examples, sealed or not, but totally mint and complete.....I'm working on my list right now, and I will post mine a bit later in the day.....what are your choices here, boys...the Ace..

Jesus, using the foil is simply a matter of practice, practice, and more practice. I enjoy doing foil, but most guys say they don't . just give it a few more builds, and you'll be schooling the rest of us on how to apply it...lol.........best, the Ace...........

...if that's your first Bare Metal job, its sure a good job. oh, the rest of that 'stang is just terrific, Jesus, great looking piece....the Ace...

Anyone have any real insider info on Revell's "new" '70 Charger?
AC Norton replied to Monty's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews

With the MPC Reissues , I Wonder If ...
AC Norton replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
yes, the hood deal is why I mentioned including both base and air grabber hoods would be a nice touch. however, Steve, glad you pointed out the other differences here, never owning a 72 MPC annual, and not being that familiar with the actual 71-72 cars, I prefer 68-70 runners, owning a nice 68 back a million years ago. good that you brought these details to light, might be a deal breaker that RC2 would correct everything and release it now........best,,,the Ace.... -
With the MPC Reissues , I Wonder If ...
AC Norton replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
IMO,,,,our friends at RC2 would be better off taking the 71 Road Runner situation, and releasing the 72 Road runner annual again. I say this because between old MPC and REVELL kits, we have enough 1971 action. the 72 RR annual has always been a highly desired kit, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but other than the bumpers, grille insert, tail lights, and possibly seat pattern, everything else is identical to the 71 kits. if this could be released with lets say both the base, and air grabber hoods, all the custom and drag parts from 71-72, then throw in the new tires, maybe tinted glass, and an expanded decal sheet as we always enjoy, they would have a winner here in the sales department, I would hope. just a thought, the Mopar guys would go crazy, and the rest of us who like it all would grab one or two, I think.....opinions here, Casey and all other members...the Ace......... -
Woo Hoo! I finally built something. AMT 39 Ford Sedan
AC Norton replied to pharoah's topic in Model Cars
yes, Tulio, like Smokey sings...I second that emotion...lol........Tamiya paint is the best of the best for spraying. I've used it for over 20 years, and still reach for it every time I go to the hobby store. makes those killer paint jobs easy and quick....the Ace.... -
.........and those twenty years make that build even sweeter than the day you completed it. I can hear the bone shaking rap of those glass packs, and see that car leave the tree...I love it.............the Ace.........

'57 Chevy Cameo
AC Norton replied to camaro73's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
......very, very nice, Brian. just as sweet as sugar.....great looking build,,,,,best,,,,the Ace..... -
no doubt Camaros are more popular in general, poor kits or not. however, I can say from building this 69' bird several times, it has potential if you like these cars. true, 67 and 68 'birds are a bit nicer, but that killer RAM AIR 4 engine combo was a factory option in 1969. regardless, you have many times stated on the forum that fun and simple is sometimes good....well, its usually very good if long, tedious projects aren't your bag, and this kit with a bit of TLC can be a neat build. guilty pleasure,,,...,,I don't feel guilty one bit......lol....the Ace.....

looking over my 69 'bird that I just got today, Snake's point regarding the body line in question is interesting. the car certainly needs some correcting, if you enjoy body work. I'm sure I can improve that area, but you guys that do great body work are more apt to get it closer than I will. I think back a while Snake started a thread called Guilty Pleasures kits....personally, this kit is one of mine. since 69, I think I have built at least 5, and still love this one. simple and basic but it builds into a nice stocker, racer, street machine, you name it..........the Ace...
