AMT STREAKER AWB OLDS FUNNY CAR
AC Norton replied to AC Norton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree, Richard, its not a piece I ever have wanted, but I posted this because some of the members may want to bid on it, as many seem to like this car......the Ace........ -
.......just thought I would mention that I just moments ago was checking Ebay for kits, and that ultra rare AMT AWB OLDS F 85 TOPLESS FUNNY CAR mib was just listed for those who may be seeking one.....looks very nice all round,,,item no. is 152005442439..............just thought I'd let our members know, as its a rare one and seems to be the buzz on many threads and such...hope this helps someone....the Ace.....

........just got home with the new 69 cuda now from my LHS. they were late getting them in, but it was worth the wait. in looking closely at everything, my general opinion here is that its a nice , nostalgic kit, especially for the older crowd who, like myself built the annual back in '69 as I did. the only 2 things I find irritating is that as I mentioned in an earlier post that all the great HEMI race engine parts are included....except the cylinder heads . I know, I know....not a deal breaker or to get your underwear in a twist over, however I think they should be in there, poorly cast as they were. unfortunately, my mag wheel tree with the AMERICANS has bubbly , poor chroming,,,,where as the large chrome tree is fine. the nice features about this issue,,,,white plastic, great slicks and nice Polyglas whitewalls, goodies like the trac bars and glass packs from other issues included....and a mind blowing decal sheet, truly one of the nicest ever, I have a partial sheet from the original, and this new sheet as you folks can see from this forum pictures posted earlier , is a winner... notice how strategically the box art has eliminated the large 426 HEMI lettering from the hood sides, as the original art shows this, as the decal sheet from the original supplied them in a yellow color. anyhow, my 2 cents worth...i'll get a couple more,,,,hey, anybody got any Hemi heads they can trade, I have none , and now will need some....lol....the Ace...

back years ago, I have built all of them, except the 69 GTX, more than once. its funny how thru the years some of your favorites just elude you, and you just don't seem to get one. I had this kit once, back in the mid90s, but started, parts missing, broken, poor box...you know.....but just recently I am able to focus on trying to find the ones that mean a lot to me....actually, when I say I have never had one this good,,,thats wrong,,,i did for a day, maybe two...in Feb. 69 I actually bought this kit for my school friend for his birthday when he turned 14. we were both car and model freaks, and I had just ruined my 69 Road Runner kit , rushing thru it and getting disappointing results. Chuck said to me...don't worry, Ace...i'll get you another one for your birthday May 1st....so, with that, he got the GTX from me while I waited 2 more months for another 'Runner......lol............this type of story are reasons I am determined to get back 20 or 25 pieces that mean so much,,,,and may build them too.....best,,,the Ace........

that's hard to say....a lot of the new, younger crowd are so tuned in to the kits from the last 10-15 years, they feel that the new stuff is better and of course, much cheaper . I have a feeling that when us old guys get even older, that market may change, but I could be wrong. there are still deals out there if you shop hard, and, as you are surely aware, trading with other collectors can sometimes take the pain away if you have some nice traders in at a good price. however, my GTX did not fall into that category...but sometimes ya' gotta throw caution to the wind and just jump in........its only money.......the Ace.......

you know, Steve, I am just lately starting to look at buying vintage kits once again, as years ago in the 80s and 90s I had a very nice pile, until I sold mine off. I thought prices were stupid back then, but compared to current times, I'd RUN back to those days....lol....the Ace.....

.......you know, Bill, I will at some point, and when that day comes, I will post a kit review for all to enjoy. over the years, I have owned and built several of the cartoon box Johan kits.....but never this one. I know every piece in there, and i'll bet you do as well, but opening will happen at some point,,,,,the only problem is that I will be on a steady diet of KD and water for awhile after popping for this one...yikes...lol........the Ace......

boy, thank god for refreshing old school thinking for a change.....I couldn't possibly agree more with your comments. lets face it, even though what I'm about to convey will be unpopular with many.... I find several of the newer so called amazing kits of the last several years to be much less builder friendly than the older issues, with a higher than needed part count, that in many cases assembles with difficulty even for the seasoned modeler. they are over engineered in many examples, and that does not always work perfectly in small scales. the vintage kits of AMT, MPC, and JOHAN were not perfect, but they usually were a joy to build, and with some paint detail and a builders own ideas and skills, could make something to be proud of then,,,,and even now.....long live Detroit made plastic........the Ace...............oh, just today I got delivered my factory sealed JOHAN 69 GTX annual kit, and I would say its a cut above most of the newer stuff.....gee, I think....
-
....the mail man just delivered my JOHAN 69 GTX THE BOSS KIT no. C- 2069-200........factory sealed .....this is a holy grail piece for many guys, and one of mine for sure. ....still has the KMART 1.44 yellow price sticker on one box end......I am without a camera right now, but will try to post a photo later in the week......happy, happy.............the Ace....

.......and black in some cases too. I have had both over the years,,,but bang for the buck, the best issues of this MPC 68/69 cuda , even though we all know its a 69....is the BOSS CUDA great street machines issue, and the AVENGER orange issue, the Avenger has a chassis with the stock exhaust deleted, and has some nice, useable glass packs and trac bars for another build......I see the new issue includes those as well.....just my 2 cents.......the Ace.....
-
........never wanted one of these kits, but i'll be getting one as fast as I find one up here....that's just lovely....great looking build.....the Ace....

the Brigg's '70 Chevelle LS6 convertible-model?
AC Norton replied to fiatboy's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
well, Jeffrey, I think the kit you are referring to is actually the AMT69 Chevelle ss convertible, as the 70 was never made that way, just as a hardtop. I suppose you could convert the current 70 Chevelle ss Jack Reacher issue to the Briggs car if your into some serious body massaging, and possibly fitting a convertible top from maybe the Revell 72 olds 442 kit....not certain if some of the resin sellers offer tops for the mid size GM cars, but like anything plastic, if there's a will, there's a way......getting decals made is another situation, as I don't think any seller makes them, but I could be wrong on that one. certainly would be an interesting build, of a very famous and award winner vintage super stocker....in the 1970 season that car gave fits to all its competition everywhere.....a true killer......hope this may help.....best,,,,,the Ace.......... -

I envy my American friends and model buddies, and wish I could pay your current prices. here in Canada with our weak dollar exchange the regular AMT/MPC releases are priced over 40.00 bucks plus 13 per cent tax on top.....can I move in with one of you,,,,,I promise I'd help do the dishes...lol...lol.........the Ace...........
