AMT 1968 ROAD RUNNER HEADER INFO......
AC Norton replied to AC Norton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
....I'm working on my first ever build of this kit presently, and am enjoying it, but as you guys know, this kit has some issues. anyhow, I'll soldier on an correct some, live with some others... just glad the Revel headers fit nicely, and when I deepened the stock oil pan to the 8 quart look, everything slips in perfectly. lots done so far, but tons to go....building a late 60s- early 70s era modified production class car with it, something like Sox and Martins, Lee Smiths, and others similar from that time.....you know, with the cross ram Hemi, 65 style hood scoop and all,,.....hopefully, all will come together.....best regards, boys, and incidentally, if any of you want to throw in your 2 cents worth about ideas, or your building experiences with this 'runner kit, I'm all ears.....thanks, the Ace........ -

AMT 1968 ROAD RUNNER HEADER INFO......
AC Norton replied to AC Norton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
....your welcome, boys.....hopefully, I will press on and actually BUILD a kit for a change....lol...........this has tons of potential, but as you probably know, this 68 RR kit has some strange issues. lets see if some grinding it out for a few days yields a result,,,,if nothing else, the headers should look great.....lol...........the Ace........ -
Rattle Cans - who still uses them?
AC Norton replied to tiking's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
........rattle cans since '68 when the car model disease settled in......still do, always will...never owned an airbrush, no interest either....spray away..lol.......the Ace -
.....this won't be the hot tip for today for the Chrysler / Mopar drag builders I'm sure, but thought I would share some info for this build that I just was playing around with. if you are not impressed with the headers that AMT provides in the Roadrunner and GTX kits, the nice race style headers from the Revell 67 GTX kits and 67 coronet Drag on lady coronet seem to fit nicely, without any pain. I'm starting a 68 'runner to build as a late 60s-early 70s super stock or mod. prod. car, so gathering up the goodies is first as we know. anyhow, I had a couple extra sets of these around, and they seem to do the job nicely. also, that stock oil pan in the 'runner Hemi is easily made into a deep race pan with some plastic added , then worked out a bit. so, don't turf it for another until you spend an hour or 2 modifying that stock one...it too will do nicely. just thought I'd pass this info along for some that it may end up being useful ................regards,...the Ace......

......just got back from Panther Hobby in the Toronto area, and the owner of the store Alex always has a great stack of car models at great prices....soooooo, the AMT 75 Gremlin, 53 ford pickup, Opel GT in white, 68 road runners in white and yellow, and the Curleys gasser purple 41 Willys coupe came home today.....they will be thrown up in the stack like the others....to someday build...maybe...lol........the Ace.........

.....many of the cars we all build may not be the best we have ever done either, but many are just plain fun and neat to own and build...by the way, Stefan, I just 10 minutes ago got back from a local hobby shop and brought home 6 kits today,,,,and grabbed the last Opel GT on the shelf, had to get one after seeing yours.....best....the Ace...................

......well, I know from building one in the mid 80s, and seeing plenty built around here, none of them looked correct. it was just one of those kits all of us so much wanted to be a killer piece, but it never seemed make the the grade.....yours does, and the wheel detail, the body color with egg shell white interior and such makes an unbeatable combo.....I love it........the Ace...........

AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
AC Norton replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
....I like them all, and think they all have potential. now, to further confuse and make this as difficult as humanly possible.....LOL,,,,LOL,,,tape and spray the coved area in white where the name goes,,,,and use the red TRUDELL FORD ones on that are on the sheet....they would look great, but, now its getting a bit more of a pain...if ya' know what I mean....the Ace........ -

AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
AC Norton replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
actually, its surprising the way some of the cars from then were trimmed out, using some stock looking stuff like the GT striping and such,,,,,its just that most of us are usually looking at pics of some of the more famous racers of the day , and sometimes overlook the little guy racers....I have a pic around somewhere with red line wide ovals on the front of an A/FX mustang.....go with what YOU like the best...car looks great regardless........the Ace...... -
AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
AC Norton replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hi Gene.....glad your back on the scene, nice to see for sure... well, my 2 cents on the decal choice would be this....as much as I like the horseshoe setup, it seems to overpower the door with its height....and to center everything out, as you nicely have done, the PONY EXPRESS lettering extends into the door lines and will on both sides, and that never ends up looking as good as when all can be centered in between. I guess I'm too 60s minded here, I like the yellow lettering, as its bright and fits nicely...and is typical of that era....... have you considered the PREP BY MUSTANG ENGINEERING decal on that sheet....I ask because a combo with it , the GT narrow stripe on the lower that's on this sheet....mixed with your red car and tinted glass almost matching those decals may be a winner....just my 2 cents, my friend....best,....the Ace... -
..........good to know, Raoul.....thanks to you.......the Ace........

hey, Mike, no need to say sorry, if the seats are not correct, the easy way to solve this is quite simple.....first, pass on a stock build, and go for a wild drag car with racing seats,,,,,or,,, do what most of us would do,,,,buy one, maybe two of these GTO kits, even though you don't really need to, and throw them up on your stack to talk to friends about builds that will never happen regardless....lol...lol....best regards........the Ace...........

........thanks for that tidbit....if that's the case, that blue version IS the way to go, ,,, but I'll need to get the current one for clear glass....lol....I love this hobby, buy one, use four or more to complete...lol.....best,,the Ace.........

.......thanks, Mike, for your 2 cents too. I only asked this question tonite because as I mentioned to Mark a post or two up the page, one issue is all I want to get, and, sometimes issue to issue there is sometimes surprises in a box.....some good, some not so good..........thanks for this,,,,,,,,,,the Ace.........

ok, Mark, I appreciate that reply....I also thought a gray, AMT box might be a good choice as well, but am glad to get your 2 cents on this........best,..the Ace.................

.........thanks for that, Mark,,,,so, be that as it may, if you were to only want ONE for a future build....excluding a hi buck original, what of all the boxes reissued in your opinion, would be the one to grab,,,,i ask this because we know your collection is vast, and your overall knowledge as well..........best,,,,the Ace...........
