clear coat on tamiya gloss aluminum paint
AC Norton replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
....to answer your question,,,,keep in mind that just about any metallic paint will loose some of that metallic hit , once sprayed with clear. Tamiya clear, well, isn't exactly clear.....what I mean is, the idea of it being completely transparent just isn't the case. the paint has chemicals and solvents in it that will darken any color that it is sprayed over. that is why your met. silver lost a lot of its blast, so to speak....as the clear coat hides it and tones it down.....I use Tamiya sprays all the time, and can tell you that the clear changes almost all their paints, once coated over. black takes on a bit of a gray tone, meaning that hard, dark black look goes away a bit..... for metallic colors I use their pearl coat clear spray, as it does not change the primary color appearance as much as the clear spray does....spray some plastic spoons with your various colors....then give them a shot of clear, or pearl...then figure on whats best for you...hope this helps.....the Ace...... -

Barracuda....Back from the dead
AC Norton replied to SfanGoch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
....lets face it, Chrysler has been milking all the old performance era names, decals, what ever ,,,,for years now....everything is a hemi this, R/T that, super bee the other,,,bla bla bla.....it was novel at first, back in 2006 -7....but they have beat this to death, and it really doesn't fly anymore. frankly, I figured they would employ the cuda nameplate long before now, road runner and GTX too....its laughable in my opinion. all those nameplates and cars have a very historical meaning, but all this new stuff, if you think about it....have been on the market far longer than any of the vintage cars ever were......just my opinion.......the ace..... -

AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
AC Norton replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
.one question, Gene....noticed that the one drain plug was removed from the oil pan....I have never been aware of an engine fit issue here,,,but I guess that's not the case....fill us in here, please. I know the awb falcon and awb nova I have built were both ok in that department....the Ace.... -
.....so very true...even the 72 annual mpc original suffered from the same problem, when I built it in 1972. unless some resin maker offers an improved bumper for this kit, as Snake mentions, the width is a problem....the Ace.....

Stripping paint when body work is involved.
AC Norton replied to cobraman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
.........usually does, Ray....Tamiya, Squadron, most.....its the only drawback to big time putty work, if you have to strip it.........better quality automotive putty filler, I have found, even on very old vintage kit bodies will sometimes survive the dip,,,,but later on, when time to start over clean,,,,will start to chip and crack off........hope this can be solved for you....I know you are working on a major build right now......the Ace.... -
how to make black interiors nice
AC Norton replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Michael, the method that I have used for years is the following-----spray the parts with the flat black of your choice--let dry for about 2 hours--then, I use Testors semi gloss model master spray can, dust a light coat on all parts, wait about 10 minutes,,,then spray one nice coat on all, not a wet pass, but enough that you can see the paint. at first, it will appear gloss for a couple of minutes until it starts to set up.......let all dry at least a full day or two,,,,,then, take a clean cloth, like an old cotton sock or t shirt scrap, that is fresh cleaned, something here that won't have fibers floating around,,,,,then gently polish the parts,,,GENTLY....until they come to that nice sheen look......hope that helps...same deal works well for white interiors too..........the ace........... -
