  1. .......my thoughts exactly, Chris. it would be super exciting to just own one, even if never built.....so, charge 70 or 80 bucks for one....that's a far cry from the money even a poor, beat up original usually costs..........the ace....... Even if Round2 had the tooling intact for the Firebird, seeing it again would be a real long shot. Yes, many of "us" would like to own one, but "we" (who know what to expect and want one for nostalgia reasons) aren't a big enough group to justify the expense. If you want to lobby for something, consider the Hull Raiser with a different vehicle (maybe a 59 or 68 ElCamino?) in the spirit of the original I hear you, but a substitute vehicle and different box art is just not the same.....I think most potential buyers for this kit are the type that realize what they would be getting off the hop, that meaning they want this for just what it is, and what is once was. lets face it, even the novice builder and newbie to the hobby can still build both boat and trailer, and even a custom Firebird and have a ball doing so, with a fun and exciting set in front of them when finished. if AMT ever does consider this reissue, their new tires, some tinted glass, and certainly new designs of decals for the boat, and custom and drag decals for the 'bird would sell it and sell it quick........... all this is just my opinion, of course..............the ace...........
  2. ...glad everyone has commented about this thread, and as always, thank you Tim, for hammering out the facts on this most interesting subject. so, my question is this, everyone........even though the 68 AMT FIREBIRD was a custom, non stock piece,,,, and yes, some would complain, as we all do half the time about many kits,,, regardless,,,could the Firebird be retooled and produced again, to accompany the HULL RAISER boat that the MODEL KING used back in the 90s,,,,,,,and, if so, is this a set that we should lobby AMT to consider ...I think it would sell, due the box art and nostalgia of all of it alone. just my thoughts,,,i feel many of us would like to own one, but the prices originals command is out of the question for most of us....the ace...
  3. ...noticed one of these kits sold on ebay recently for around 510.00, and, in generally poor condition. box had spray paint on it, parts were loose , some broken as well. my point is, a truly rare and very exciting kit like this would certainly be a home run for the kats at AMT, I would think. do some of our esteemed forum members have any info as to that ever being on the maybe list of re issues....I don't recall the 68 firebird by AMT being out after this kit.....jump in any time, boys.......the ace......
  4. would take a pass on the Casper dragster.....no interest here,,,and I wonder if it will be a good seller for ROUND2....I think better reissue choices would pay off better for them, IMO............the ace............
  5. no problem, Ray......I know you like body work and such, and a fix like this would be a snap for you. I find body work a bit more challenging, but I managed to repair mine in about an hour or so. oh, you mentioned a blue and white combo,,,,that should look great,,,and so would a nice blue and met. silver combo as well.............the ace.......
  6. yes, a mid 70s high school 67 charger may be a neat group build idea....I like that, I can almost smell the burning oil from a caffed out 318 or 383 with a jillion miles on her as we speak.....oh, and I like the 'prolly' deal too,,,as in....'prolly want a cracker'............lol.....the ace........
  7. Frank, enjoying yourself is all that matters. that fondness many of us feel for so many of these kits, and other hobby or toy items is what can sometimes turns a very bad day into a great day. as for your skills, I know myself that as I get older, now 60, I don't have that same drive for perfection and ultra detail that I once had back in the heyday. for me personally, just getting a kit finished and appearing decent overall is sometimes a task these days.... even getting new kits is sometimes as far as a planned project will get, but that's ok with me , and i'll bet there are many of us in this hobby similar in that aspect.......the ace.............
  8. ....Frank, I would bet that if AMT was going with oldie annual parts, it would be a selling feature to boast about. doubt it will happen, but I will say that, in remembering this issue from building one back around 75-76 or so, it was a nice kit. the mags, cheater slicks, cross ram, and s/s scoop made it a killer, finished car, sitting on the desk...excited to get one....oh, that KAT bobble, you'll have to beat me to the first one....lol....the ace....
  9. doubtful if those early annual pieces will be in the charger....my guess is the parts will mirror the version of this series from 74-75 era.,,, the newer tires and quality decals, but my bet says that's it......the ace.....
  10. ....good to know, Brett.....I was told different, but it makes sense, and I'd say if you once worked there, ya may be a bit more tuned up than the rest.....lol.....thanks, the ace..........
  11. .....notice the ad for the 67 charger GREAT STREET MACHINES series states...the first to be resurrected is the charger....may mean the 57 vette and 67 streaker vette are coming also. but, the winner would be the 68 BOSS CUDA from that bunch, however tooling changes over the years will most likely mean that we will only see this as the 69 cuda that STEVENS is releasing in the fall.....lets hope for both......the ace.....
  12. ....thanks, as always, Casey, for keeping us informed on all the new releases. all these are sure fired winners for Round2, and that Kat bobble figure is the first item on my list....AMT, MPC, and the kats at ROUND2....what could be better.......the ace............
  13. thought I may mention that I have been playing around with this kit the last few days as well. Ray, one thing that I have noticed needs attention on the body of this car is the bottom left lower fender where the bumper meets the body ........ that side is badly rounded and out of shape compared to the right side on the bottom edges, and is a touch shorter .....just thought I would mention it, its an easy fix.....looking forward to seeing yours built....the ace....
  14. .....masterful, I would say. a ton of work but it will be worth it once finished and sitting on the table.....a winner even at this stage,,,,best,...the ace...
  15. John, that's Ray Allen you are thinking of.....and as much as I like the hemis and all, that 70 LS6 of his during the 1970 season was the killer of killers.........the ace..........
  16. no, the annuals from 67, 68, and 69 had the slant 6 and a hemi.........after that, the hemi was included without the six, until the late 80s when the hemi was dumped for the 383 wedge............the ace..........
  17. no problem, Frank.....I will try to post some pics this week if time allows. as stated, a nice issue, but a little rough around the edges here and there,,,if ya get my drift..........the ace........
  18. ..........just got this kit last week, and intend to build a drag racer quickie to get back on the bench. look forward to your progress here, and your black/ red combo is sure nice . great project choice and happy modeling....the ace........
  19. FOOSE,,,,REVELL,,,,,,,,,REVELL,,,,,FOOSE,,,,no thanks........the ace........
  20. .....much as we all like the best price on everything, JBs statements all hold true, in every way.....glad you laid it out for all to read...the ace..
  21. I just voted for the AMT double dragster kit....this is really an obvious choice here, as anything AMT trumps anything Revell , always........the ace........
  22. Vince.....did you get your photos back to post again after the last hack.....all would like to enjoy seeing them again, I am sure.......the ace.....
  23. ...........added some pics of my 40 ford on page 2......love this kit, as mentioned....will build more of these guys, for sure.............the ace.........
  24. .....I built my first one ever a couple of years ago, posted it in the drag racing forum under Troublemaker,,,,,just love this kit too, and have another in stock for a future build.....the ace.....
