  1. ....and Tom, that's the thing about ebay that has always baffled me....few guys even bother to search for what they need, just see one listed, and promise themselves they are buying THAT auction regardless. its truly dazzling, I've seen it so many times yet I'm still always shocked over and over.....the ones I love are the bidders driving up the price on an all week auction, yet there is another one, maybe even more than one,,,, at a much lower buy it now price....the Ace............
  2. as usual, i'll be spending the day alone, but have no fear,,,,i will enjoy my model stuff, talk with friends by phone, and may even have a cute bunny over later this eve...lol.......HAPPY EASTER SUNDAY, EVERYONE..........the Ace......
  3. Helmut, I think we all see your point here, however you must realize that many folks in the hobby don't care to build anything,,,they just want to have certain items. not everyone is concerned about that nice, personal achievement factor, only getting a piece to put in the showcase. as far as the PRO BUILT statement in so many ebay listings, as modelers we know the difference, but many people do not. many sellers list that way to grab your attention, whether its worth your attention or not. as far as pricing on builts or other kits,,,,ebay has changed the whole game of price reality since basically it has replaced the concept of travelling to shows and events for many guys. maybe its different in Europe, but there are far less great toy shows and kit sales events like back in the 80s and 90s in the states and Canada here. personally, I don't buy builts in any condition, but I do pay what I feel justified to scoop kits on ebay, because its cheaper than long trips to shows here and there , where there is no assurance you'll come home with what you seek.....just my 2 cents......the Ace.....
  4. .....good for you, Eric James.....nice to read the phrase - very excited - in your write up. this should be a neat build, that fiery orange Testors is a great color. I'm in the midst of building a vintage drag 68 road runner and will be using that same paint for part of my build....best of luck on your new project, regards, the Ace............
  5. ....one of my TOP 10 FAVORITES of all time.... built and ruined one new in 68, then built Landys 68 SS/FA car they ran in the 68 season, back in the summer of 1999, sold it to a guy later for outrageous money,,,,,and just last week got a factory sealed one, and a factory sealed Johan 69 GTX annual.... some box art and certain muscle car kits have a lasting effect on some of us, and this kit is one of them....decades pass and all this so called better, hi tech stuff comes along...yeah, right,,,,,yet some of those golden kits are everlasting and always desired by collectors and builders alike, and will be decades from now when most of that other stuff will be long forgotten.....MPC, AMT, and JOHAN forever..............the Ace...
  6. ........without checking pics, I seem to recall the interior was the tan/ gold color I think. as far as engines, it was a max wedge, when you notice fender well headers, it usually is not a hemi.............the Ace....
  7. I agree with Bill, and will wait 6 months or so, and grab one cheap at a later date. I had no interest at all in this kit, and even remember thinking the same in 1970, however I just got an MPC 70 GTO, that I intend to build as a vintage super stocker using GOOCHE 70 MPC GTO decals......this new Pontiac built as the sportster pickup would make a terrific tow vehicle for that GTO all with matching colors and such...hmmmmm......lol........great review by the way, you just cost me another 35.00 bucks...lol.....the Ace...........
  8. ........for me, its simple....my ex was a photo buff with some very nice high dollar equipment, and she posted pics for me here. I no longer have a camera, and, frankly, hate anything computer...and have no idea or interest in bothering . so, my built cars or other shared info concerning photos has to wait until a friend of mine can come over to help,,,,or not. cameras and computers aren't my bag...and as much as I'd like to share various photos here, its too much hassle...................the Ace.......
  9. that's a nice, clean build....great work there.....the Ace....
  10. just bought a mib vintage MPC KILLER CUDA, a version from 1978 that I always liked. nice that these older versions had all the hemi parts, plus the chassis with the exhaust deleted...now just waiting for the mail man...lol...,,,,,the Ace.....
  11. ............that's ebay...and the solution is simple....snipe at the last 3 seconds, or, if you REALLY want the item so badly it hurts,,,throw big money on it, because you never know what the other players are thinking.............patience and time sometimes pay off, but not if you want it now, that's when the rules and justifying price goes out the window.....my 2 cents.....the Ace............
  12. boy, Terry, that's just a knockout build .....very nice work....the Ace........
  13. .........you do great work, John....always enjoy seeing your builds, thanks again for sharing.....best,,,the Ace.....
  14. I don't think they did, Bob....the one I had about a zillion years ago was all white,,,,,but, some of the Revell ones had chrome parts as I recall.....hope this confuses all of us even more...lol...........the Ace.............
  15. .........you know it, Jeff, when I read all the moaning about RC2 not making new items, and how compared to other BRAND X makers they are out of date, I'm glad they are, because some of us prefer cars that actually build easier and still look great no matter . many of the BRAND X makers should take lessons from the best, because it sure ain't them....DETROIT originals, now RC2 will always be the heritage of this hobby...........the Ace............
  16. i'll get one regardless,,,,once again, thank god for ROUND2,,,AMT- MPC forever........thanks Mike.........the Ace........
  17. are both bikes the same model,,,,or do you get 2 different ones.......either way, I'm in for certain....thanks .....the Ace....
  18. just got 2 Gooche decal sheets for the Falcon awb drag team, and the MPC BOSS CUDA,,,,and 3 kits,,,MPC 67 GTO sealed, MPC 70 GTO , and MPC 69 CHARGER 500,,,all mib.......happy ,,happy......the Ace.......
  19. great to hear this ....I feel much the same here, and some of your story parallels some of my own.....models and friends...friends and models,,,,a combination that just can't be beat......the best to you, Michael,, ........the Ace....................
  20. .....talking bare metal foil, I agree that the regular chrome is the best all round to work with. BTW, Kevin,,,hows your 69 GTX build coming along, as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago my 68 RR build is going slowly, but surely....just thought I'd ask...the Ace...
  21. ....well, George, funny you ask. just Sunday I was at a local model meet in my area here, and joined in a conversation with some modelers that mentioned the same as you, not to say that getting the hood to fit on correctly was a problem too. I have never built any version of that 66 Nova, but I do recall hearing fit problems and complaints over the years about both stock and pro strret versions . the body has a small rear wheel opening,,,so you may resolve this by taking your Dremel, at low speed, and carefully thinning out the underside edges of plastic thickness, and also you may see if the wheel backs/ brake drums on the rear can be brought inboard a touch by sanding or modifying slightly until you get a desired fit.....sorry to hear this, but you are not alone about issues with this kit apparently...the Ace......
  22. well, Nathan, I sure wish things went wrong on my builds like your Impala here....that's a nice, clean build and very tasty as well....great job,,,,best,,,the Ace........
  23. thanks boys, for the input. Raoul, your cars look great, so i'll just wet sand , tape, and paint the one under bumper.... and David, I got this kit at a model event just yesterday, along with many other kits, but wanted to get building details to make notes for upcoming builds. again, cheers guys for the fast and accurate answers.......best,....the Ace.....
  24. general question for the AMT 72 CHEVELLE SS kit.....just got this kit, its stock no. is 31933, red built car on box, tan and gold checkers on box art....I have built a couple of 1970s issues 72 Chevelles of AMTs back many years ago,,,,and I notice something strange with this issue.....the chrome back bumper has the rear splash pan molded under the bumper,,,,,,,yet the kit also supplies the gray plastic, separate splash pan like the kits I built years ago.... so, asking our forum members that have built this more recent issue,,,,do I trim off the pan molded on the bumper....and then paint body color and install the gray plastic one as I did in the 70s issues,,,or,,, mask off and spray body color the chrome attached unit under the bumper I mentioned above.......I know that both AMT and MPC made many versions of 72 chevelles thru the decades, so I am left wondering if this newer kit is a combo of all the old parts and such grouped together,,,, and what you folks think the tried and true approach would be to solve this hang up....I thank you in advance on your thoughts, boys...........the Ace.........
  25. ....just now returned home from a Toronto, Ontario sale and meet......great morning, to say the least,,,, I grabbed the AMT 69 GTX, 66 FAIRLANE 427, and 72 CHEVELLE SS, all MIB from one dealer for 20.00 bucks...... then, traded a seller and got a sealed AMT COUNTDOWN SERIES 69 CHEVELLE SS and COUNTDOWN 64 IMPALA , 65 EL CAMINO w/ camper sealed....and the AMT 36 FORD COUPE late 60s issue GASSER series with the pop up drag strip cardboard display.....another one of the newly released MPC 69 BARRACUDA,,,,,,and finally, a mint in box..MPC DICK JESSE'S MR. UNSWITCHABLE funny car, unbuilt only missing the driver figure, with a very nice 8/10 box......terrific Sunday morning........the Ace..........
