Questions for the builders out there
AC Norton replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
you should never worry about that, just build and enjoy the hobby to suit yourself. sometimes less is more, and the easy, less detailed projects can be very gratifying and fun too. try not to compare your skills to anyone, and just have a great time... that's what its all about....best, the Ace.. -
Questions for the builders out there
AC Norton replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
the 68 road runner is presently on my bench, and as much as I love these actual cars, owning a mint example back in the day.....it is a difficult build, and a kit that requires a lot of correcting. for quick simple fun, build the GS for now, the runner can be a bit of a pain.....hope this helps,,,,enjoy regardless of your choice, the Ace.... -
.....no ignorance in that question, at all, Richard.....the annual 1/25 scale MPC 70 VETTE box calls it a 70 1/2 .......sorry I can't post pics presently as I have no camera.....and yes, that 56/57 Vette original is one nice kit. similar in equipment to the re issued 60 Vette that came out a few months back, but not identical . this 56/57 has a nice little show display stand, and only the small interior cover for the salts,, where the 60 has no display stand, but both the small and larger interior covers. the 56/57 blower scoop is smooth all round, where the 60 issue has a nice finned top half of the scoop......everything else, other than the dash of each, looks the same....both will build a neat early NHRA sports production class racer.....the Ace......

well, if all else fails, just throw down a hundred and I'm certain one can be obtained double quick......that's what a true model car builder, collector, super star, whatever,,,,would do....heck, I'm jumping online as we speak and before my nights over I'm determined to completely deplete my bank account,,,,lol,,.........the Ace... -

427 SOHC valve covers
AC Norton replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
.....the MPC Dyno Don Cougar funny car, and the Air Lift Rattler of Fast Eddie Schartmans from the late 60s issues had those, I believe. probably the STP Cougar of the same vintage too. I could be wrong here, but I seem to recall this from friends building those kits when we were young drag race freaks, and building nothing but......the Ace..... -

there is no rhyme or reason to ebay prices....never have been, never will be.....same goes for many Hot Wheel guys....they just HAVE to get it today, so price becomes irrelevant......then a month later, everybody buys the same piece and gets all they can carry for a buck each.......lol...lol.......the Ace.. -
....glad other guys are excited about these releases,,,in my case, its money that will be spent on other kits instead...nothing for me in that pile...the Ace...

'70 Impala Tri-Carbs ?
AC Norton replied to Pete L.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yeah, you could....but nobody running class would when you get the top end punch from a tunnel ram and 2 Holleys.....the cfm simply isn't there with the tri power compared to the air/ fuel flow as the typical setup mentioned. still though, for my drag Impala build, I will be using the 3 deuces and just call it a hot bracket car, its just too nice to throw in the parts box.....the Ace...... -
'70 Impala Tri-Carbs ?
AC Norton replied to Pete L.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
...just noticed this post, and even though the tri carb setup was a Corvette only option on some 427 engines,,,the carbs and air cleaners with this kit could still look very neat on the engine supplied and used in this Impala kit.... a street racer, bracket car, you name it could have used almost any goodies, back in the day or presently. you could even call it a VETTE 427 tri power motor dropped in replacing an original engine being a small block, or 454 . as mentioned by other members here too, shops and racers could have installed many combos for street, or strip......I have 2 of these kits, and one will have this setup simply for appearance alone....it just looks so neat......my 2 cents.....the Ace... -
Amt 70 impala differences?
AC Norton replied to Nova-ss's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mark, mine was a dark green 4 door hardtop, just 350 2bbl, PS, PB, full wheel covers....sure not loaded. great car, I loved it as my daily runner in 1976-77 era, as my muscle cars rarely got driven. they were nice dependable cars, and even though I've owned so many great cars from 1972 up, and had a zillion company cars thru the 70s up to early 90s in the car biz, I still have a soft spot for that old gal.......the Ace..... -
your way too ambitious for me, Richard,,,,i'll wait and grab one mib when it comes up......the cut, hack, chop, and repair aspect is something I enjoy watching others do....lol.........these days even cracking the cello open on a kit is a big event for me...lol.......the Ace.....

Amt 70 impala differences?
AC Norton replied to Nova-ss's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
glad to help, Chris......there are plenty of cheap ones on ebay presently, so as I mentioned, the red box usually can be bought for less, and its just as nice . I built one in the late 90s as a drag car, and the only thing I recall was a bit of a pain were the headers....they need to be stripped, cleaned up and prepped out well because they are rough in general, and the pipes to the heads need to be shortened a tad, just so all will fit under the floor without problems. the rear splash pan also fits poorly, so a bit of trick prep and fit will be the order of the day there. this kit has some very nice performance parts....decent headers once worked over, nice tri carb intake, carbs, and air horns, a large chrome air cleaner with a Holley carb, and 2 sets of valve covers-- chrome stock ones, and a nice finned pair too. oh, also,,, if you build one for your collection, keep in mind the body has 2 IMPALA scripts on each side. one is on the roof pillar, which is correct for this car having the formal roof,,,but there is yet another on the front fender of this model as you will notice.... that one should be sanded off both sides, as it is mounted there on 70 Impalas with the base body style only. I owned a nice one back in the mid 70s and used it as my daily driver, and mine was a 4 door base model, and had the badge on the fender. best of luck with your builds.....the Ace.... -
Amt 70 impala differences?
AC Norton replied to Nova-ss's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have both as well, and other than tires, decals, and the newer issue molded white, the red box car in gray, they are identical. earlier issues from the original annual up to the Cruising issue box had a set of very nice Motor Wheel spyder wheels that all the later issues do not. however, your 2 issues have very nice Cragars and a set of barrel spoke Americans. this is a favorite kit of mine, good luck building yours.......best,,,the Ace..........oh, by the way, if your going to get just one of these, I suggest the black box new issue, as mentioned its molded in white which is always nice to work with, and it has a killer decal sheet and pad printed polyglas tires and blue streak slicks. but, usually the red issue can be bought cheaper online these days if the details mentioned are not a concern to you. actually, I just got my red one last week factory sealed, and paid just 15 bucks for it. hope all this helps.... -
that's one neat kit, got it for xmas 68 with many others, and have had a couple over the years. in todays world, the newbies wouldn't give it a second look, all wanting complicated, 100 plus parts kits. well, not this guy, I wish they were common, like they were still in the 80s and 90s, I'd buy 3 or 4 of them. your lucky to have one, Richard.........the Ace.........
