  1. hi again, Craig.....one question I was hoping you may be able to answer.....could you get a 1.1 Gran Prix like this kit, but order it new deleting the floor console, so the shifter was mounted between the buckets .....I ask because if so, I will delete mine here, and run with it as stated.....thanks in advance.....the Ace...
  2. ......sure it will,,,,on ebay for big bucks...lol........the Ace..
  3. ....you will like both, I'm sure. the cuda has a nice drag decal sheet and generally is pretty nice. the only thing that irritates me is the absence of a pair of hemi heads, like the original and some 70s issues did have. your kit has the cross ram, carbs, velocity horns, and valve covers...but no heads. other than that, you should enjoy both of these. best,,,the Ace....
  4. hi Carl....I've tried getting ahold of him every way possible, and frankly I'm very worried about him. he's going thru more than a rough patch, and I find it very odd he won't contact yourself, whom he considers a good friend, and myself. I called the Salvation Army in his area weeks ago to check on him,,,,they spoke to a neighbor that said they see him once in a while. since then, nothing....no library action either, and his cell goes right to messaging....if you hear anything please let me know, Carl,,,he's at a bad place in his life right now, and I'm really worried. thanks for responding,,,,best, the Ace....
  5. ....that's great info, Alan....I have passed on grabbing the issue you have many times at bargain prices,,,,but will certainly look to be getting one now at some point.... as far as the new Tope Mustang,,,,i don't have one, however in checking out the bottom of the box for the parts list pictures, it doesn't appear you get much more than the bare bones to just build the said kit.....thanks again,,,the Ace...
  6. not sure about that, I think they are the same as the ones sold by RC2. either way, the set of 8 are very sharp and useable for anything you want to build having that style of stacks,,,,,,doubt I'd use them on this Vette kit, but its a nice bonus if someone wants the kit regardless...the Ace...
  7. well, I don't have the ones they sell,,,,but these look to be the same height to me, as are the chrome ones on the chrome tree.....i'll try to get some pics if I can.....the Ace...
  8. Doug, I got the kit last week, and would photo it for you but have no camera to post at present. however, regarding the stacks, the kit has the identical 8 aluminum spun pieces like Round2 sells separately . they are the tall type as well. I will try to borrow my friends camera later in the week and try to post all for you.......overall, a nice kit, molded in white, nice chrome, rally wheels, Vette aluminum wheels, and open rallys in white that are very nice. big block automatic with 4 barrel, 3 deuces, or injectors. the decal sheet is very nice too, oh, and six tires....4 stock polyglas and 2 wide Goodyear baloneys for the rear, but no slicks......hope this helps....the Ace...
  9. Ray, this type of car does not interest me to own myself,,,,,but really, do you think your build is that bad,,,because I don't, it actually looks pretty nice, in my opinion. you probably build more kits and contribute more finished builds than anyone on the forum, but in this case you're being far too hard on yourself.....the Ace....
  10. seems so, Bob...I bought my flat box Friday, and the green glass is quite nice....but all else is typical white plastic, pretty clean and crisp though. another customer at this shop bought the regular box while I was in there,,,opened it for all to see, and just clear glass is included, no slicks, and a smaller decal sheet. however, molded in teal plastic as shown in this thread..... my opinion,,,go with the flat box......best, the Ace...
  11. .....of the group of kits listed, and the fact this gentleman is jumping back in after many years away from it all.....I suggest the AMT 69 Firebird, which actually is the original MPC 69 Firebird. its a simple, yet crisp , little if any snags or problems to build, and, even though not up to all the rivet counters standards of todays so called amazing kits,,,it can yield an enjoyable, fun build as a stock piece, street beast, drag car,,,you name it. those kits are dime a dozen in many different boxes and issues, and usually can be bought cheap as well. the plating is usually quite nice, and the molds seem to still be in check because the kit is pretty clean, needing only minor clean up and such. it also has the hood and decals to build a 69 Trans Am as well, but the twin scoop 400 hood is included, as well as the OHC 6 cylinder engine too. I've personally built this kit, in various box art 4 times from 1969 to about 15 years back, and was pleased with them all....just my 2 cents....the Ace...
  12. don't know....but it sounds dicey to me.....they have the Mopar kits licenced thru Chrysler, and as for Warner Bros. for RR, they already produced the 74 RR with the tin and all, so I wonder...........guess we wait and see....the Ace...
  13. Bill, I like the idea of the 71 RR coming out again too, but only if it truly was as the annual was.... identical decals, those very nice Cragars, plastic slicks, and all drag items. however, the best idea for Round2 would be to dig out the items to release it as the 72 RR annual....now that would be a seller in its original style box, and all the pieces restored. either one though, would be a winner if done properly.....my 2 cents,,,the Ace...
  14. just bought the new release AMT Grand Slam 65 Pontiac Gran Prix, large artwork box, and an AMT 3n'1 1925 Ford Double T kit.....both are very nice pieces...the Ace,,,,,
  15. very, very, nice build here , Roger....one of the nicest early pro stock Mopars in my book......terrific work....best,,,the Ace....
  16. well, what did the Spice Girls sing....' tell ya' what I want, ,,what I really, really want....all the Gasser series boxes with the pop up drag strip display,,,,the double Willys and 32 Ford kit as shown above, any and all of the race/ drag team sets like the 68 Shelby drag team, Cal Combo awb Falcon / Galaxie set, ....even a new twist on the awb Nova Indy drag set,,,,we know the early Nova wagon is history,,,,soooo why not change the box art slightly but have the 65 El Camino camper towing the trailer with awb 65 Nova,,,,,,,,all the MPC 70s era pro stock kits too,,,,and many more, but its bedtime so i'll sign off ...lol....the Ace.......
  17. ......you said it all, Bill....no cut on any one of these builds, as mentioned I'm deep into one myself presently. owning a truly mint 68 Roadrunner from 1975 to 1986, that I hardly drove, they are in my top 5 favorites of all time. its just a kit that has never really looked correct, from any angle including stance, front track, and as we mentioned, other problems too. still, its the only game in town if you love 68 Roadrunners, and if you want a 69 GTX by JOHAN, now your hunting and paying,,,and I mean paying......I bought a sealed one a couple months back, and I'm still just eating KD....lol......best,,,the Ace.....
  18. identical, Jerry....don't get me wrong,,, I don't want to rain on someone's parade, however as nice in some areas as these 2 kits are,,,the quarter panel shape is incorrect, the stance ends up sitting too low at the rear, the front track is too inboard in my view, and on and on.....the GTX emblems on the lower quarters are too small, the grille is just 'off ' when you compare it to an actual one as well. the 68 RR has very poor tail lights, they need some work or just to be replaced with aftermarket ones now made....I'm almost done with a drag 68 RR at this point, and even though its ok at this point, it will be a long time before I pop out another...oh, one other thing, the hood for both cars falls thru the fender edges too, so the sides need shimming up with some plastic strip as well.....oh, the interior panels have to be filed, then sized up with the dash, which sits up too high on one side, and all need to be squared just right, otherwise when fitting your interior inside using all the glass, it ends up fitting poorly...all can be corrected here with the interior, Jerry, but best I mention this now,,,and the clutch/brake pedals almost drag on the carpet, so they need a total refitted. make certain your engine bay parts align perfectly as well, otherwise your front end pieces will fit poorly....I glued the firewall, and both left and right inner panels together on the chassis to align everything before final assembly too. install your rad support last, after the engine is in,,,,it can be all glued as a unit first, but that makes it all the more difficult dropping your engine in.....best, the Ace...
  19. ....one other thing as well.....fender well exit headers were the order of the day in that era for these cars, so some scratch building will be in your future ...lol.......the Ace...
  20. thanks again, Bill, as usual our members here make it easy with the answers.....this is a new idea for me, but I am interested in building a neat little rod from this....and that Lincoln mill is just too good to dismiss for this car, its just so nice with the six carbs and all.... best, the Ace...
  21. thanks for that, Art.....I'll run with what I have then, just wanted to be certain, and knew that our esteemed members would have all the answers, as usual.....best, the Ace...
  22. .....getting a bit worried about GENE AHART,,,known on the forum as SPEEDFREAK......I had been emailing him back and forth as he was using a computer at his local library ,,,and I had been talking on the phone back and forth with Gene the last couple of months....he is going thru some terrible personal hardships presently with health issues, and family problems as well. if any member has any info, please let me know....I am getting worried ....the Ace....
  23. great point, Bill.....I think I would build a 60s era mild street rod, similar to the box art. thanks for jumping in here, I'm not as well versed at the 20s thru 40s vintage era cars, stock or rod builds, as usually sticking with muscle/ drag cars 60s-70s era, I appreciate help on details like this. I also read your info regarding the Linclon engine in this kit, about the valve covers and such, and wondered as well,,,,my kit has the regular heads with even port spacing, but it also has an intake with other heads molded to the sides that looks interesting....any thoughts on that, Bill....thanks as well...the Ace....
  24. Jere Stahls 57 sedan ran D/S in the 64-65 era.....now, not sure if that was a fuelie or carb deal....but most 55, 56, 57 chevys in Jr. Stock at the time were down there in I, J, K....etc, so i'll bet if you did a bit of research you may find his was a fuelie. I also remember a 57 wagon that ran out of Jenkins shop in that era, and it ran F/S in 1968, and if it was up that high, it probably may have been a fuelie as well....the Ace....
  25. .......sooooo, the hinges on the one side is correct here, and I should just prep, paint, and be happy...just checking...thanks, the Ace..
