  1. ....if you are looking for fun and fairly quick, the AMT SUPER SHAKER is a neat piece. great decal sheet, lettered tires, lots of drag and custom goodies, and less work overall to still get a nice car in the end. put a nice paint job on it, wire the 409 using the chrome valve covers, hood scoop if you like, fat tires and Cragars in the kit,,,,you will love it...........the Ace.........
  2. Ken, I remember building White Lightning versions too now that you jarred my memory, and even the 69 original in 1969...and after seeing you pictures here , I see the dilemma with the newer issues. I just now as we speak opened my 1993 issue as mentioned above, and its identical to your 2003 kit. I truly don't recall problems with the 2 I built back in the mid 90s, but they were sold long ago....but, when I start this new one I got in, I will refer to your posts here to do corrections if necessary. thanks for bringing all this to light.....anxious to see your build too....best, the Ace....
  3. I like that very much, Ray, because everything about the car is quite different from the norm.....great work......the Ace....
  4. very nice project, indeed, and reading your text about your kit being the 2003 issue sparked interest. I built 2 of the 1993 issues, orange car on the box, and I don't recall having to fix the rear panel or having any bumper woes. I also have a sealed 1993 issue coming in the mail presently, and am anxious to open it and check out the body and rear bumper, to refresh my memory regarding this. this kit does build into a nice little drag piece with a bit of work and a few parts box goodies....good luck with yours,,,,,,the Ace.......
  5. its a strong possibility that we may see a 73-74 Charger again.....I don't think any other issues came out after the Super Charger issue, and with anything Mopar always in demand, it would be a good bet on this one.......the Ace.....
  6. just bought the Model King 70 Camaro z28, AMT 70 impala, 69 Firebird 400, Model King 56 Ford Victoria, and MPC 1928 Lincoln Gangbusters .......the deals online were too good to pass up, so as usual,, way more than I will ever build, but love to have them regardless...........have a great plastic weekend, boys....the Ace.............
  7. I'll tell you what I think on all this....I would venture to say that for any of us to fret over decals that were once made is going to be a moot point, because the decal guru's will be all over this kit cooking up any and every possible driver/ owner they can produce to sell everyone....you will eventually see all the famous, typical cars we all know, down to the most obscure paint scheme's and drivers in the not so famous category.....just my 2 cents,,,,the Ace....
  8. ....I would hope that decals are going to be made to build some 70s 80s era S/S 65 Plymouths like Steve Bagwell, Ken Montgomery's 555, Thumper, and many others from that era, as there were so many very nice ones. over the 50 years of these cars being around, the number of owners and paint schemes is pretty vast, so decals for some killer builds is entirely possible...the Ace....
  9. .....ever used the cheap dollar store furniture spray polish,,,,well, I do, and it shines paint like crazy, does NO damage to anything else, and lasts on the model to retain a nice shine. now, that said, its the Dollarama junk here in Canada I'm referring to, but i'll bet the same off shore junk is sold in U.S. dollar stores too.......works great, costs about a buck...ooo la la......the Ace....
  10. ....Johan quality in general was terrific until the later 80s era....their chrome, plastic, and overall sharpness was hard to beat. back from 1968 when I started building and collecting models, Johan kits were always my favorite because of subject matter, and the quality of their products. I think much of todays hoopla regarding the quality of many kits doesn't come close to those classics from Johan.....the Ace.....
  11. .......how about the short-windshield problem.....was it corrected in more recent issues like my yellow kit...the Ace....
  12. thank you, Steve....thought I was seeing double or something.....pretty certain the drugs from the 70s have worn off by now...lol....the Ace.........
  13. thanks, David for your help re. the windshield....now, I must ask Dr. Snake the plastic surgeon...I just looked at several real 55 Cameo pictures on google....and I'm not seeing what you boys are...when I hold the cab up to photos, it appears like the kit cab to me....am I blind or just not getting it here....I'm not big on hack, cut, patch and bodywork,,,the Ace...
  14. hello to all our members....I just today bought the AMT 55 Chev Cameo pickup, pale yellow version, and looked it over for a future build. when I checked the many builts on our forum, and quite nice that they are,,,many comments by the builders made comments that the kit has major problems and issues. some even saying one of the worst kits ever, and so on, so, I ask our esteemed members....what are the pitfalls and problems I have to look out for, and thank you gents.....best,,,the Ace................
  15. .....nice project indeed....I've often considered building mine towing a matching AMT 65 Falcon altered wheelbase racer. regardless, your kit is looking fine and no doubt will be a winner.....best,,,the Ace....
  16. wow, Tyler, you are a quick study if I ever saw one....that's one fine paint job, and I have no doubt that the finished car will be great....nice work there, and its great to see a young fella so enthused about the hobby.........best,,,,the Ace......
  17. ....over a period of say 48 years of modeling cars, and other interests at times as well,,,,i would say at least a dozen times on the missing parts question. as far as broken or damaged.....several times on that one. an interesting note for some of us old guys who will recall,,,Johan Models at one time in the late 60s and into the seventies actually included a parts checklist on some instruction sheets so that the customer could send it in with the related boxes checked off, so they could send you the parts right out. it seems I regularly was astonished to find my Cragar wheels, slicks, or race headers missing...lol....darn.......the Ace......
  18. very nice set....I like them, your 55 chevy is a sweetheart.............the Ace.......
  19. Dave, that's a great looking 60s rail job....excellent work for sure....the Ace....
  20. ...looks neat as can be....I like it, great work and nice color....the Ace...
  21. ...........I'm from Ontario, Canada....and our shops have tons of all the colors and such always....if some member is desperate for a particular can, in the midst of a project for example, I'd be happy to grab what they need and send it out....let me know if anyone could use this......I use their sprays for most of my cars too.....the Ace...........
  22. ........as above, oh, as above.....preach it, brother Snake.............the Ace.......
  23. tell ya one thing, Mike,,,when finished, its gonna be as neat as hell......love it...the Ace.....
  24. ........guys like that usually get it,,,and I mean get it, in time. amazing how months, if not years later they attend a meet somewhere, and, someone there knows who they are and what their antics have been in the past.....things can happen and rapidly, if you know what I mean......the Ace....
