  1. hey Richard, while your at it checking EVERY possible detail and pitfall of these Vettes on Google,,,, remember you have to measure the steering wheel - to dash- to - crotch distance as you usually do....lol...........the Ace....
  2. .........I'm not particularly fond of this era of Vette, but to brand them as losers I'm sure may be offensive to those who own, or have owned such cars and enjoy them very much. I bought the kit back a couple of months ago when first released, and can say its a nice piece. the metal injectors and decals are killer, not to mention that this car will build a very nice showroom car, or with some effort and planning a great street beast.....innocent smog motor Vette sporting a built to the nuts rat under the hood.....lots of potential there. I wouldn't call that loser stuff at all.......the Ace.......
  3. boy, Jesse, that looks tough as nails all round,,,,terrific work there, probably the nicest build of BAD NEWS I've seen.....maybe take it to a contest entered in a rod or street beast class, and it's gonna be BAD NEWS for your competition................the Ace....
  4. ....just to throw in my 2 cents here, my local strip was called Dragway Park, Cayuga in Ontario, Canada back in the day, and I was a regular spectator then bracket racer thru the 70s to 90s off and on. anyhow, JJ had the 70 Camaro style body at on of our meets in 71 and I recall him boiling the boots ALL thru the pass right down the 1/4 on a practice run. no funny car pilot like him.....unforgettable even after these zillion years later........the Ace....
  5. ....would any of our members know if the decal sheets in the Rat Trap Vega dirt modified and 36 Chevy Wild One are exactly the same as the the originals in the Model King / DRT releases from a few years back......thanks in advance, boys......the Ace.....
  6. well, Richard just said it all in one quick shot.......personally, I find build threads to be sometimes tedious as well, but on a forum such as this many do enjoy seeing and hearing about each and every detail of a members ongoing project. lets face it, for many folks, its not just the idea of learning more about car modeling, but its straight entertainment for many.....and there is nothing wrong with that. I admit since joining this forum just over 3 years ago, I seem to spend more time here than at the bench. but, everyone enjoys this hobby on different levels, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned..........the Ace....
  7. ....quite a bit lately,,,,AMT original annual Mach1 Mustang, MPC Malco Super Vette, MPC 69 original annual Corvette ht, another MPC 56/57 Vette mid 60s issue, AMT gasser series 40 Willys with dragstrip display, and a dirt track modified DTR/MPC 36 Chevy coupe..........the Ace....
  8. .....prices are geared to a specialty market now, that's us older crowd, and not kids. model companies don't produce near as much product as that 60s thru 90s era, as fewer stores and chains carry kits in general. so, to keep it profitable, they have to hit a home run per item compared to days of old, and the re issues for example by Round2 are comparatively cheap vs. buying an original issue in most cases. ......the Ace...
  9. ....unfortunately, that's no surprise ......with their price point, the fact that their customer service is poor, and that as exciting as the subject matter is of their kits, when other builders have popped open many of their cars to find bent bodies and the like, who really wants anything to do with that so called company......that bunch are merely a flash in the pan, and over the coming few years won't stand the test of time......my 2 cents.....the Ace....
  10. you know, Richard, that's a good question there.....I'm not a funny car guy, but one may think that something AMT from that era would do the trick. the only possible drawback to consider is that maybe the MACH WON f/c kit had provision for the SOHC engine setup, if different from most others.....I don't have any recent f/c kits here to check them out.....so we will have to depend on one of our esteemed members to fill us in here if they can do a comparison for us......still, a very good question, Richard...the Ace..
  11. ....never heard of such an animal, but what do I know...lol...if it is the same, that may be the way to bring this kit back....just saying....the Ace....
  12. interesting but unfortunate info on that chassis, Jesse,,,,so I would agree, a comeback is unlikely .....the Ace....
  13. .......my cousin got the white/blue version as a gift in 1971. I was the model and drag freak, as he had no interest in the hobby,,,,so I built the kit OOB and really enjoyed it all. I'm not much on funny cars, however I'd grab one if reissued to go with our Ford race team hauler,,,,,think its one that Round2 should do if they can, as it has appeal to various builders in several ways....would be a winner ................the Ace....
  14. ....normally, this type of kit would have NEVER graced my stacks of cars, but I bought one when they were released a couple of months back. its such a neat little thing, that I had to grab one and may another at one point. possibilities are endless for project ideas, but even box stock with nice paint and decals would do the trick too..the Ace..
  15. .....good looking piece, Gary, just now noticed it.... color and decal combo are boss, great work,,,,,best, the Ace.......
  16. ........like Snake, I watched on mute and buzzed thru it all, nothing for me this month. its terrible though, that a month has to go by where you end up wasting money on items that aren't model related....lol.........the Ace.....
  17. like always, Round 2 AMT, MPC, and the rest of R2 are number one. I have had parts issues several times, and bang,,,,my replacement items show up in no time. they are the BEST of them all, and as far as I'm concerned always will be.......they are the one model company that still encompasses the tradition and excitement of our hobby, and truly cares about their customer base, unlike some other so called players that are a joke at best..............the Ace...........
  18. I have a few, I suppose,,,,but to fall into the discussion topic here, Richard, I would say my still factory sealed Johan 69 GTX annual cartoon box, with the 1.87 KMART sticker on the box end.........the Ace..........
  19. ....just noticed this thread now....Jeff, that picture you are seeing on our posting is the original 73 issue kit, when MPC and General Mills had a business arrangement for some years,,,the new issue coming won't have that art on the box.....and Harry,,,when did your LHS say your pre order would be in stock, as I too will order one from mine.....thanks boys,,,,,the Ace....
  20. ............just over 600.00 bucks....plus shipping......................yeah, I know, don't say it.......the Ace...
  21. predict,,,ummm,,well, I predict that there won't be enough cash around if all our dreams come true...lol....the Ace....
  22. so sure, Nick.....I'm like Don Corleone, I insist on the bad news first...lol....the Ace....
  23. ...thought I would share something that just moments ago came in an email to me.......Billy Gooche told me that his family no longer wants to bother with the decal business, and he cannot manage it alone for health reasons. he also said a friend was looking into possibly taking over, but that's just a maybe.....so, its now shut down and the reason so many of us have had no contact with Gooche for months now........just thought I'd spread the unfortunate news.......the Ace........
  24. as far as I know, there are resin cast 71-72 bodies made,,,,but, you will have to get the bumpers chromed as they come straight resin, and decal striping for 72, and of course 73 which as you know are a bit different may be a problem, as I don't think any of the decal guru's make sheets. AMT started their annual Gremlin X kits in 1974, and only made that funny car kit with the early body, but it had mods to it that can be changed, but could be a task.....not to mention the kit is sought after now, and seems to draw good money. I guess the way to achieve what you need is to go resin, chrome the bumpers, buy a reissue 75-76 AMT as your donor, then get someone to make decals for your particular needs....I have always wanted to build 2, a white with black stripes like my car,,,and a black with white stripes like my best friend's 73 was......I've worked on and off with a 76 kit building a drag piece, so won't consider jumping into more Gremlin builds until I one day complete that one....hope this long winded testimony has helped....lol......the Ace........
  25. very cool, I love it......my first car was a new 73 Gremlin X with a 304 stick.....added wheels, tires, headers, Lakewood trac bars, shifter, gauges, Accel ignition,,,,etc etc.....had more fun on the street and the strip than probably all the other cars that followed.....still miss that little car, after over 40 years.....the Ace....
