Tamiya 911 GT1 W/ Scale Motorsport Super Detail Kit & Other Details
Quick GMC replied to Quick GMC's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have learned everything from being on the forums over the years. I think the biggest thing I have to teach myself is patience, but a lot of the tricks and techniques have been from other people's builds over the years. The bolt heads on the brake rotors took forever. There are 48 in total, and I think it took me 200 tries to get them all aligned and glues on correctly. The crossover line on the rotors, I think I made 10 to get 4 good ones. I usually end up having to paint cars 2-3 times before getting something presentable. i watch guys on facebook that are really, really good. Turning their own parts, soldering cages and frames, etc. Those guys make me want to give it up when I see what they can do, especially with the 1/43 stuff. I want to have high detailed builds, but my knowledge and skill level is not quite there yet. For every nicely detailed part I have, it took me several tried to get there. I just spent a total of 4+ hours trying to get the right look for 2 oil lines. I wanted it to resemble the real car and I was having trouble getting the right look and size. Such a stupid little thing on the car that could literally be done in black wire and look fine. I appreciate everyone's' compliments.- 35 replies

I used to be in the field refinishing stone floors, then I started a distribution company that sells all the equipment and trains contractors how to do this.

Tamiya 911 GT1 W/ Scale Motorsport Super Detail Kit & Other Details

I actually bought a PE bending tool. When I first saw these, I though it was a gimmick, but they really do make a huge difference. I bought a different brand, but this is where I first saw them: http://thesmallshop.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=9- 35 replies

Tamiya 911 GT1 W/ Scale Motorsport Super Detail Kit & Other Details
Quick GMC replied to Quick GMC's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The Brembo logo had 8 pieces, one piece for each side of the rotors. It was the rotor faces that they shorted, they only included enough rotor faces to do one side of each rotor. For this build, it wouldn't work because I am displaying it with wheels and rear engine cover off. The Brembo logos weren't etched all the way through either, just recessed, so a dilute paint flowed right in there nicely.- 35 replies

Tamiya 911 GT1 W/ Scale Motorsport Super Detail Kit & Other Details

Kit exhaust with molded in springs does not look good. Turned some aluminum in the Dremel From bottom to top: kit part, aluminum, aluminum after polishing Got some motorcycle exhaust springs, this will look so much better SMS Super Detail turned inner and outer hubs, aluminum shaft I may blacken or paint the hubs Kit oil reservoir cap compare to SMS Super Detail turned cap and PE cover That's it for now.- 35 replies

this will be a slow build, I don't get much time any more. I started this a month or two ago, and a week or so ago, I came across a member selling the SMS Super Detail set and I jumped on it. I am using the SMS Super Detail turned parts, SMS PE set and the Hobby Design McLaren F1 GTR brake set, which uses the same brakes and hubs as the 911 GT1. The Hobby Design brakes are a lot bigger than the kit brakes, but still kit inside the wheel just fine. I don't know why HD only includes enough PE brake faces to do 2 rotors, so I decided to not use them and paint the rotors a carbon color. PE Brembo faces nice crisp detail I nipped off the molded in bleeder detail Made the crossover tube Added the .5mm brass nuts from Scale Hardware Not too difficult to make 1, but making 4 look the same is time consuming Mockup with the PE face that I didn't end up using I decided to go one step further and add RB Motion bleeders. Tiny Painted the calipers Brembo Gold from Gravity Colors, then diluted some Tamiya red acrylic to paint the Brembo letters Painted the hubs Alclad II Pale Gold. Now comes the fun part, adding all the PE bold heads Before & After A million years later Rotors were painted with Model Master Metalizer (I forget color) then gently rubbed with a dense cotton swab for contrast Before & after. Not a huge difference, but enough Looks great when done More to come

I guarantee I am somewhere around 200 or more. I own my own business and people text orders, and through Facebook messenger and email, and my website, etc. all through my phone. I work from an office with a desktop, but I am in and out a lot. If I could ditch the smartphone, I would, but it would be a major negative impact on my income

I love those Mustangs, I have the 7-11 one. I have been trying to find some turned wheels, or even photo etch wheel centers with no luck, they are odd sizes. i believe those Mustangs used 18" in the rear and 15" in front. -
Scale finishes paint sale

no it's not. -
I haven't completed a single bike yet. I started one Tamiya kit, but I really love the older bikes and the Rothmans livery, so I had to have this. From what I have heard, they are every bit as good as the Tamiya kits, and this is new tooling, so it should be pretty nice. I should do a review, but don't know where to put it since they don't allow bikes on here.

Hobby Shops Near Inglewood/Denver CO?
Quick GMC replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I went to Colpar Hobby Town, then they advised to go to the other Colpar store since they had a lot more plastic. What an awesome hobby shop. So much stuff I wanted to buy. I got a bunch of Acrylic washes and pigments and some detail stuff, but no kits. I stuck to what I could fit in my suitcase on the way back. they have some incredible stuff though. Huge military water stuff and armored kits that are really intriguing. Their bigger store sells online, so I will probably be ordering some stuff from them in the future. -

Going Overboard With Progress
Quick GMC replied to American 185 Heavy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
complaining about too much in the post? This is a new one for me. Not too long ago, people were griping about posts not being updated enough. You know what's more annoying than too many pictures? Someone starting a thread to complain about too many pictures in someone's work of progress thread. Get a freakin' grip -
Holy......!! I can't believe what I just did!!!!

the least I have ever painted a body is two times. EVERY model I do gets stripped and repainted at least once. I feel your pain. -
My son is a little over 2 1/2 now. The first 6 months were the easiest. I had time off from work and all he did was sleep. I got more building done in that time than ever before. Not so much these days. He is always sneaking into the backroom where I have my office and build area and he is really getting into cars. I bought the new snap together kit for him to play with. Obviously he can't build the entire thing himself at 2 1/2, but he actually did fairly well knowing which way some of the parts went. He insisted on wearing gloves. He was super determined to get the chassis on. He had fun, but it went quick. Now he gets to play with it. I am glad that they made some of these kits. We'll do the Raptor and Mustangs next.

New distracted driver hazard - Pokemon Go

So businesses shouldn't be allowed to do business? That's like saying Xacto shouldn't be allowed to hobby knives because they know some people will eventually cut themselves with it. It's absurd -
New distracted driver hazard - Pokemon Go
Quick GMC replied to Jantrix's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
They didn't create a driving hazard, they created a game. The people that value the video game more than the lives of others created the driving hazard. Blaming the company the made the game (Which is not Nintendo), for people getting in accidents is idiotic.
