I have used this a few times now. Seems like it doesn't cover very well unless you really lay it on. It also has cracked on me, probably because I did too heavy of a coat. It doesn't seem to dry as smooth as Tamiya primer, but also probably because I did heavy coats (an it seems to shrink a little bit). I'm getting the hang of it, but I need more practice. It seems extremely hard too. I had a lot of trouble cleaning the airbrush pieces after it dried overnight. I would definitely recommend it though, I know it will be great once I figure out how to adjust my application.

It's funny, my least favorite colors on real cars look the best on models. it really suits the car well. Very nicely done.

Your post made perfect sense. I think Donn was referring to the initial paint job. Wash/dry/paint right away. I need to let the paint cure more before I sand it, it is still a little soft to the finger nail. I'll update when I start messing with it. The funny thing is I was low on paint. I ran out right as I was finishing. Knowing myself and how much trouble I have painting bodies, I ordered another bottle from Scale Finishes in anticipation of screwing up. I don't know if I should be depressed or happy that I though ahead. The color is Ford Washington Blue, from the Model A days, but I went over grey primer and it's a little dark. When I get all this worked out I'll make sure the color shows properly in the photos.

This one is still in the works guys, just very slow. I am more focused on some 1/24 stuff and I just had a baby, so it may be a while. It is not forgotten though. I appreciate all the comments. I am learning these skills as I go, so sometimes I get frustrated not knowing what to do next, so I put it away. I think I will move on to other parts of the car though, so I can make progress on something.

would this still hold true after a layer of paint? Before I painted, I rubbed the car down with a cheese cloth (tack clotch) and it seemed like stuff was sticking to it. I had to use my bare finger to swipe the dust away as the tack cloth and microfiber seemed to encourage a static cling. I did not have this issue with the other car I painted.

I am airbrushing with Scale Finishes enamel. The other body I did with a basecoat and clear was flawless. It's weird.

Bill, that's great. Thank you very much. I actually have those polishing pads at home. I think the lowest I have is 3600 which should be good enough. I have had it in a dehydrator on and off. I'll put it back in and give it a few days. Thanks for the help. If I can just get the texture cut flat and smooth without going through the paint, i think I can save it.

I laid down a pretty nice paint job, only to come back and find a ton of dust in the paint. I painted two bodies in two days, one perfect, and one full of dust. This is airbrushed enamel, no clear coat. i was thinking I could sand it down so the texture is smooth, then clear coat over it, or do more color coats. The thing I'm afraid of is it took 4 coats of color to cover evenly. I think I might sand through the paint. The other body I painted is a basecoat with clear. No dust. Both painted in the same spot 24 hours apart. I'm not sure what happened. My wife may have had the fan on in the room or something. I usually leave the fan off for 2-3 hours before painting. We live in the desert so there is always the chance of dust in the air. the dust you see in the picture is in the paint.

Just this one for now. I have the road version with a hobby design pe set and a 1/16 fujimi version of the competizione in Totip livery. Trying to track down a photo ech set for that This one will be yellow and white with the Shell decals

I used to be a tech at a dealer that sold Porsche. They are extremely critical of anyone that pronounces it any way other than Porsh-uh. They will literally stop you mid sentence and correct you. These are the Porsche reps. Our Porsche master tech also mentioned getting a Porsche tattoo (he had a VW one already) and they threatened to sue him for copyright infringement. They were dead serious. I couldn't believe it.

Finally a little more on this. The next update will hopefully be a painted body. I did carbon decals on the underside with a flat clear finish. I have the trim on the glass painted, just need to paint the body, do the decals and the body fittings.

Every build for me. I feel like I build very nice cars with very nice details bit I cannot paint bodies for some reason. I always get runs or a sandy texture or something goes wrong. I have to sand every body and end up going through the paint somewhere. If I paint it well, the clear coat gets jacked up. It's really ruining the hobby for me. I have cars that are complete with 50+ hours in them sitting in a box with a body that has been stripped 3 times. Two days ago I painted my first - ever rouble free body and I'm scared to touch ot. It should be wet sanded and polished but I know something will go wrong.

He offered a sample. I ordered a small bottle anyway, as well as a few paint colors. It's $15 for 4 oz, which will probably go a lot longer than an $11 can of Tamiya primer. Less waste with the airbrush and if it is similar, I don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience. If this doesn't work out I will try the Mr Surfacer thanks for your feedback.

I suppose it depends on where you are. We have only one shop and they stock stuff for the local track so it helps them a lot. But you're riight, if they are sitting on the inventory for a while, it isn't doing them any good.

It seems like hobby shops survive on RC these days. Planes, cars and helicopters. The revenue generated from that allows them the capital to stock models and other oddball stuff for the people who will actually come in and buy it. At least that's how it is around here.

I used to use cigarette foil for head shielding and such. I recently found you can buy this same stuff in large rolls at the crafts stores. It's cake decorating paper/foil.. $10 for a lifetmie supply.

I emailed Jameston, but I was wondering if anyone here can offer feedback. I love Tamiya primer, but I am hoping to go to an airbrush exclusively. It's nearly impossible for me to paint outside because of where I live (desert, constand wind, etc). I have never used an airbrush primer and was just wondering if it is comparible to Tamiya. How fast does it take to dry vs. Tamiya? That's the one thing I love about this stuff, it dries so fast, I can usually sand it in 30-60 minutes.
