Round 2 has a few new kits coming!!!
ChrisBcritter replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I thought the mold for the original '57 Chevy "Pepper Shaker" kit was supposed to be worn out? Are they redoing the newer kit with the old decals, or ? -
My version of Chevys should be 1963 ElCamino!

This is the clay model of the Nova El Camino, dated July 1961; the roof treatment was transferred to the Chevelle: -

Don't give up just yet - it takes practice and the proper tools but it can be done. A scribing tool will get the line started, and the back edge of an X-acto blade will continue it to the correct width and depth. Use a metal straightedge and go lightly and slowly, and of course practice on scrap plastic first. The door on a 2-door Nova should be a hair under 2" long at the widest point - measured horizontally along the body crease (I just now checked this on my '65 Nova hardtop which is the same body as the '63). Yours may be a bit shorter because of where the roof was installed. Here's a quick photoshop of how it could look: Good luck and happy modeling! -
Sweet! I got the Christine version at an estate sale many years ago. And it has that same little misalignment on the driver's door trim. They did add the movie car's door lock buttons, at least!

Do You Recycle Your Old Builds?
ChrisBcritter replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm doing one (but only one!) at the moment, a '64 Coupe deVille I built back in the '70s. So far it's been an excellent reminder of how thoroughly I used to glue things together. -
Photo bucket: Class action suit?
ChrisBcritter replied to BigTallDad's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just deleted everything of mine from Photobucket - over 1400 photos. I'll replace what's gone from my other forums bit by bit, but no hurry. -

Reported. Is anyone else reporting these? -
What did you see on the road today?
ChrisBcritter replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow. I'd save those cool "STOP" flashers above the windshield of that school bus if the lenses are OK. Too bad the FC Jeeps are all eaten up. Mark, are you a member of the H.A.M.B.? I'd like to post a couple of those to their "Sitting and Rotting" thread with your permission. -
eBay Scammer Afoot!

I messaged both the previous seller (he responded that he'd heard from many people about it) and eBay early this morning; the listing has been pulled. -

Friday evening I was VERY surprised to see a sharp-looking replica of the American Graffiti '32 Ford heading north on Waukegan Road in Glenview crossing Lake Avenue; no time for a photo but it looked very accurate. -
While hunting for old ads in the 1961 Raton, NM high school yearbook, I came across this page: A lot of difference for three stations in the same town. Now for the fun part. Check out the ad signs in the last photo for the now-legendary and VERY expensive 1/25 scale Buddy L Texaco station for only $3.50 - and there's a built example of the kit visible in the window between the second and third pumps!

On the two-part Bondo in the tube, what's the ratio of hardener to putty when you're only mixing a very small amount (about the size of a jelly bean)?

Shoot, that's been going on forever. Somebody tried to sell Clark Gable some of his wife Carole Lombard's jewelry they picked up when her plane crashed in 1942. Knute Rockne's plane crash in 1931 was similarly souvenired: (University of Notre Dame Archives)

Jeff or Kevin, any news on the Renault Dauphine? I need glass and a rear bumper.

#774-A Then convert the chopped top to stock height and add a back window to have a running start on a '51 Victoria!

While looking at expensive-as-usual late '60s Falcons on eBay, I discovered this live auction coming up: http://www.ebay.com/clt/collectibles-live-events/incredible-vintage-promo-car-and-model-kit-collection-607879 Plenty of good stuff here; and the opening bids are only $5.00. The collection is in Fowler, Indiana - anyone know who the collector is/was? The photos alone are worth checking out, although the descriptions use that annoying word "minty" so many times you want to leave a wad of Wrigley's Doublemint on the writer's keyboard. Happy bidding!

The Revell '62 Plymouth wheel covers arrived today, and thanks to the generosity of Geno, so did this: Franklin Mint '60 Falcon engine, left over from Geno's awesome Copperhead gasser project. This will be going into my Jimmy Flintstone Econoline; a few tweaks and some filler and paint to hide the screw head, and we're good to go. If you want to compare it in size to the resin engines available, this one is 2 1/16" from the fan hub to the end of the tailshaft, and 1 3/16" from the top of the air cleaner to the bottom of the oil pan. The top of the bellhousing is not molded but it will only be visible from the bottom. And I don't have to wire it!

I notice the wire wheels in the AMT '65 Riviera and Silhouette kits look very similar in photos; do the outer halves interchange? The inner halves seem to have longer axle tubes on the Riviera, but are they otherwise the same? These are from the Riviera; I don't have a shot of the Silhouette wheels:
