  1. Hmm. Never knew that. Anyone have a photo of the decal sheet?
  2. Noticed this old builtup '49 Ford on eBay and I was wondering about the Crestliner two-tone panels; they look like decals. Did AMT offer these, and if so what issue of the kit had them? This one's molded in tan plastic.
  3. Did what I could with the image but couldn't quite get the tread pattern:
  4. I airbrushed Testors Aztek "opaque" white to redo a couple sets of AMT 1961-issue wide whites; took three coats to make it really opaque but it worked in the end.
  5. I recall the AMT '66 Galaxie convertible had one like this; what say the experts?
  6. Pretty cool setup you have there - reminds me of the layout at the L.A. County Fairgrounds at Pomona which is a huge outdoor setup in 1/24 scale; they still had some of the old promos they got back in the '50s on display (mostly '52-'54 Ford sedans). Some of the streets are even set up with electric tracks that run rubber-tired model semi-trailers. One thing they did that you could try: a drive-in theater with a screen showing train films! Check out their site; might give some diorama ideas: http://fgrr.org/ Anyway, back on topic - would you be willing to do any trades?
  7. The '60 Ford wagon arrived today - definitely not from a smoke-free home (in fact, the inner box it was packed in previously contained "200 cigarette filter tubes"!), but a good cleaning will take care of that and the residue from the paper stick-on wood trim. Lower rear quarters are full of glue but I'll either smooth them off or replace them with the ones from the other body. Yet another project begins...
  8. According to the website, 3/8" scale or 1/32. Would they agree to trading off some of the retired cars for replacements? I saw this photo on your website; just putting it here for info - I'll remove it if that's a problem:
  9. MY=Model year. I was hoping the Bronco wheelcovers (the rear ones without the 4WD hubs) would be correct for a regular '66, but from what I hear, they're undersized. Can anyone measure a set and tell us the actual diameter? Maybe they can be adapted with a ring around them.
  10. I think we have a late winner for the "unusual places you've bought models" thread!
  11. Yeah, I knew it would be far-fetched in the first movie when they tried to convince the audience that a 211 in progress at a liquor store in Glendale would have the whole LAPD tied up so they could go racing south of downtown L.A.
  12. That just leaves three of the great '50s rockers left - Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Domino. Of course Chuck left us one of the all-time great car songs in "Maybelline" (and "You Can't Catch Me" was right up there too).
  13. A few good lesser-known vintage films: Drive a Crooked Road (1954) starring Mickey Rooney as a sports car racer/mechanic who gets hooked into being the wheelman for a bank heist in a souped up '40 Ford sedan; lots of great vintage sports cars in it. Cell 2455, Death Row (1955) starring William Campbell in one of his best badass roles as a character based on Caryl Chessman; some great stunt driving including a chase scene with a burning '40 Ford police car, plus scenes of the younger version of the character racing around the Hollywood Hills in a stolen '38 LaSalle convertible sedan (after his girlfriend tells him "Drive crazy fast!"). The Trap (1959) starring Richard Widmark as a mob lawyer who turns good guy after his clients shoot his father trying to make a getaway; not many chases per se but a lot of '50s Mopars and a great scene at the end when the wounded Widmark attacks the fleeing mobsters' airplane with a '58 Plymouth police car. I did the IMCDb pages for all three; check 'em out! http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=46935 http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=47926 http://www.imcdb.org/movie_53374-The-Trap.html
  14. ^^^ That's s'cool! Just nabbed a Hubley '60 Ford wagon cheeep - missing the rear bumper but I have one: Between it and the cut-up example I got recently, I have enough pieces to finish one car - maybe both if I can get someone to vacuform the windshield.
  15. Just happened to have this shot I posted on the H.A.M.B. - it's from Eaton Rapids, MI in 1960. Hope it helps.
  16. Some good stuff on there - the license plate decals appear to be for trucks, and I think the "Oakland Builder Supply Company" logos are from the '70s issue '65 El Camino? Will be interesting to see the complete sheets and the prices.
  17. The pillared 4-door was a very graceful sedan indeed! Will PM.
  18. ^^^ I wonder if anyone has ever taken the body from one of these to build a stock school bus? (With about ten jillion modifications of course.)
  19. Stopped at the Libertyville HL and picked up a Molotow masking pen on clearance for $4.10 (reg. $18.99!); will try it out to compare it with Micro Mask and report back...
  20. Neat Opel! But no, I'm talking about the French company "Record" that released a 1/25 kit of the Dauphine (they also made a Floride/Caravelle). It was full detail and had a multi-piece body, about on par with the early Revell kits.
  21. Got a steering wheel for the Hubley Renault Dauphine from Feretzrus (thanks again!); hopefully getting a rear bumper soon. (The steering wheel is from the Record kit; has anyone else built that one? Rare as hen's teeth from what I gather.)
  22. Would the narrow slicks AMT put in many of their '60s kits be more accurate? I have a few sets.
  23. Wow! Right-hand drive, too. Where's that one, South America, Africa or Australia?
  24. Go to the last page of the Mustang forum thread - Kevin Marti gave it the Kevin Marti seal of approval!
