Is it just me, or has the site slowed down again?

Getting the big 404 too. Edit: Except just now. (sigh) -
Ghost Kits - Shown But Never Released
ChrisBcritter replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
VERY interesting! Is this the solid wood prototype that would have been used to scale down to 1/25 for the molds? I thought AMT worked in 1/10 scale for those. -
Ghost Kits - Shown But Never Released

Does anyone here (Art, Tim...?) know how far AMT got with the '69 Continental Mk III before it was canceled? I'm guessing it would have been based on the tooling from the Thunderbird? -
Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?

Think I'll drag mine to DuPage on Sunday and see what they're going for. -
First time using BMF
ChrisBcritter replied to smhardesty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From my brief experience, the Molotow chrome does not take to handling well - I'd use it only at the very end of the assembly if possible, and on smaller items. For longer trim - especially if I have to handle it - I'll use foil. Has anyone tested Alclad or SpazStix clear over the Molotow ink yet? As far as mistakes, I've been able to clean them up with a thumbnail on glossy areas; on bare plastic a light scrape with a knife blade is fine (I just did the horn ring on a '41 Lincoln steering wheel and it looks great). -
Just be glad it's a 300 and not a New Yorker! Love the paintwork you've done; really gives me something to shoot for.

The two Caddy 'verts arrived this afternoon ('63 built kit/'64 friction) in excellent shape. The seller even packed them inside a vintage Tommy Ivo Showboat box!

Beautiful job, Yuri! You put a lot of work into that front bench seat; was it modified from a promo? I just got this one today and will be making a mold from it:

Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
ChrisBcritter replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Sold listings for the '30 on eBay are running from $41.00 to $84.13. They're mostly in the $50-$60 range. -
This is one of my favorites - and why I needed the '64 Cadillac bench seat, and still need the '65 Belvedere four-door conversion. Already have the '61 Olds at the end (although the one in the movie is a 98, I'll at least paint it the same color): If it doesn't start at the scene, FF to 38:50. Already have the license plates:

1/16 Lindberg (Pyro) "The Serpent" T-based Show Rod

They look the same. Oddly, the centers with their 12 holes are a near perfect match for 1957-66 Imperial wheels. -
Junkyard Modeling - Resurrecting an AMT '64 Lincoln Sedan
ChrisBcritter replied to Ron Hamilton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm doing something similar: Cut between the doors and back along the rocker panels (the PO cut off the tops of the quarters and removed the Continental emblems), replacing the back half with one off an incomplete/damaged '62. -
Corvairs in resin
ChrisBcritter replied to Howard Cohen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are there any other Corvair-powered kits, like dune buggies or customs, that would have the early rear suspension setup? I seem to recall one Ross or Barris kit that does. I have a '64 Craftsman that might tempt me to needlessly complicate things... -
Finally got me a '64 Cadillac bench seat - the hard way: Clean '63 built kit and decent '64 promo, cheap. I'll dismantle the '64, make a mold of the bench and cast it for my Coupe deVille, then do the needed repairs. I have a trade in mind for the '63 when I go to the next LMMCC meeting.

How Do You Select Your Projects?
ChrisBcritter replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I usually pick the old and rare stuff and see what I can do with it that's different. About the only kits I'm building stock are my Continentals - but the rest will have some large or small mods to set them apart from the usual. -
Junkyard Modeling - Resurrecting an AMT '64 Lincoln Sedan
ChrisBcritter replied to Ron Hamilton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Ron, have you test fitted that front bumper/grille yet? I'm putting a '64 together from a couple parts cars, and ended up having to cement a curved brace under the header panel to pull the outer edges down into alignment with the top of the grille (plus some trimming on the back of the grille itself). -
SO cool to see someone else take on this kit! (I don't suppose you have a leftover rear bumper?) The body has a ton of little issues - especially with alignment of fenders and doors - and you've done a great job fixing them. Don't blame you for replacing the chassis, either - it needs a lot of work just to get it to a decent curbside/promo standard. Did you find this kit in Germany or somewhere else?

Whats your work area like?
ChrisBcritter replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And then there's mine. And in lieu of the build thread I should be doing, here's the current status of my '58 Ford, now with a raised stance, straight axle and a SOHC in the jaw: And yes, that's a separate '60 Falcon grille and front bumper on the lower right - hopefully Mr. Obsessive will like that! -

4 Foot Effy!
ChrisBcritter replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OK, now that the hard work is done and they have the files, couldn't that '59 (not '57 as they said) be 3D printed in 1/25 scale? They'd probably sell quite a few... just needs some minor corrections (top of the windshield is too flat). -
Spielwaren Messe Neurenberg 2017 + Pictures!
ChrisBcritter replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
^^^ Was just about to ask the same thing. On one of the ICM photos I spy a newer, round-fendered Model T in olive drab - maybe a WWI ambulance similar to this one? No 1/24 Packard limo yet? -

Got some more Evergreen plastic (square and H-beam), a couple bottles of Tamiya acrylic to replace some dismal Testors junk, and a discounted Scale Stars Ranchero.
