Grabbed the Revell Hemi Dart for $6.99 at Michaels an hour ago (see my posting on the Michaels thread for the other sale items I noted). Now trying to decide whether to build it with the 440 and stuff the Hemi in my '65 Monaco, or vice versa...

This was from the Glenview, IL store an hour ago: Revell Hemi Dart $6.99 (got one; there's one more left) Revell custom '49 Merc $14.99 (sure wish it was $6.99 here!) Monogram '85 Camaro $8.99 MPC '72 GTO $8.99 Monogram '64½ Mustang $8.99 Monogram Dodge Ram VTS $8.99 Revell '70 Challenger $11.99 Revell '57 Chevy 2-door Calif. Wheels 2-in-1 $12.99 2 Mustangs and 2 GTOs in stock, at least 1 each of the rest. Everything else regular price (including all the newer kits; Hobby Lobby had the Christine '58 Plymouth on sale but Michael's didn't).

Mack Bulldog out of paper...
ChrisBcritter replied to Mr.Zombie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What amazes me is how he can do all that gluing and painting without the paper getting warped! -
59 Ford Skyliner retractable - built last year
ChrisBcritter replied to Sixties Sam's topic in Model Cars
I built one of the '70s reissues long ago; top worked real well and the body wasn't too hard. Later did some ill-advised customizing and finally parted it out; the engine and a few other bits are in my '61 Ford wagon project. I also parted another reissue to build up a PMC Ranchero; the parts fit together remarkably well. -

The Modelhaus '58 Mercury could provide the roof, but you would have to modify the C-pillars a bit. Then you'd have to do the four-door modification... -
What's your next model purchase?

The first one ('59 Ford hardtop, $36-something) ended a couple hours ago - but it went higher than I wanted to go much earlier in the day and the last bid was a few hours before the end. P.S. What's with this quote problem? It's starting to look like an M.C. Escher drawing! You can't clean it up completely either. -
Monogram '57 Del Rio Ranch Wagon has fenderwell cut-outs

So, has anyone started working on an Edsel Roundup kitbash yet? Should be interesting to see how the front clip lines up. -
New releases at Hobby Lobby
ChrisBcritter replied to VW93's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stopped by the one in Mount Prospect today; no '57 Ford wagon yet. The guy I spoke to told me they get their deliveries in big bundles of different items on Friday, but don't expect stock to be out until Monday. So I got more paint instead. -

Got low bids in on a couple eBay finds - just to get the competition going, but hoping I catch them napping... -
With what gluebombs (and parts thereof) are starting to go for on eBay, I'm not in the least bit surprised. Models like those mentioned above are finding buyers in the $10-$20 range, plus shipping. All I can guess is, maybe there are a lot of folks who don't have a hobby store nearby?

Cool! I may bite the bullet on that one this week. -

OK, I gotta ask - with all the new tooling work, did they fix the '46 grille?

1963 Lincoln Continental HT - Updated 8/2
ChrisBcritter replied to IceMan Collections's topic in WIP: Model Cars
As everyone no doubt is sick of hearing, I've got '61, '62, '64 and '65 projects going. Nice kits with a few quirks (hood contours on the early ones, front bumper/grille fit problems with the '64, window shape at the drip rail on '64 and '65, installing the '65's hood without breaking the pins off, etc.) You were lucky to find a '63 sedan; seems like '62 convertibles show up much more than anything else. There was one '61 two-door hardtop made, a factory prototype; it looked as you might imagine - same roof, longer door, that's it. As for an engine, maybe a Ford 427, 460 or SOHC to keep it in the family? Sonny Corleone probably would have had a slabside Continental if he'd lived long enough... -
Oh, man... I'm still kicking myself for giving one of these to a friend when I left CA (decent shape - missing wheels and engine, grille modded with the "V+" from the '57 Meteor grille, but unpainted and not a gluebomb), but I wasn't in my right mind... plus it had a pedigree; it was one of the lot of models I got from H.B. Halicki's estate. Maybe my friend would sell it back to me? Hmmm... Actually those are the chrome reverse rims that came with the kit; I believe the '60 Vette kit had them as well.

Earlier issues of the '59 Skyliner have the stock wheelcovers; not hard to find. '59 and '60 T-bird kits have them as well.

Next up from Moebius ?
ChrisBcritter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Remind him that the tooling has been lost since about 1969 when it was last issued in the "Baja" series - if it still existed AMT would have reissued it several times by now (like the '61, '63, '64, '65 and '66). -

Didn't that have more to do with one or the other being molded first, and survival of leftover stock, or something like that? -

Tools, paints, parts - anything but another kit (he says... ) -
Look at all the dash boards
ChrisBcritter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Many did not. My Spanish teacher in junior high gave us a graphic description of the collision that killed one of her friends (driver, crushed by the steering wheel), disfigured another (middle front passenger, face hit shift lever and dash) and injured her (right front passenger, leg broken in two places against the dash - and further injured when an equipment box fell on her in the ambulance). It was probably the only time I saw her get emotional. -
There is a certain subset of collectors who will fight each other tooth and nail (or checkbook and platinum card) at auction for very-low-mileage cars even if the car itself isn't too exciting a model. Key term being "at auction". If this had been consigned to some vintage car dealer at that price, I bet it would have sat for a long time.
