  1. I'm going to try that - Steve, if you ever build any AMT '60-'64 Corvairs, you'll need it for two big spots on the TOP of the rear bumper where they put the sprue attachments for some reason... (just trust me on '63... )
  2. Really looking forward to everyone's photos! (I'd like to see if Tom Piagari brings some more nice stockers this year.)
  3. Holy mackerel. Reminds me of a song: "Fly, Robin, Fly"
  4. If you just need a body, here you go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-24-1-25-Model-Car-Truck-1940-Ford-Sedan-Delivery-Body-Glass-/221905811053?hash=item33aa9df66d Although the Rides fender unit might be the base for a custom - french in some new headlights, scribe the rear fenders to look like it has flush skirts, and put those podded headlights on a roadster where they belong...
  5. Rebody it to look like one of the Davis '40s Easter eggs and you've got something. (source: kitfoster.com)
  6. Sure! It's a reminder of those nostalgic '50s/'60s movies of the '70s that you saw when you went to the drive-in in your Maverick! (Like American Graffiti, American Hot Wax, Hometown USA, Crazy Mama, Macon County Line, Return to Macon County, W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings, Cooley High, The Wanderers, and, uh - oh yeah, Grease.)
  7. With the Cubs heading toward the playoffs, I bet the folks at Volo are questioning the idea of this promotion: http://volocars.com/events/142
  8. I have an STP Lotus-Ford that would be good for parts (front spindles missing); think the heads and block were assembled but I'll have to check - is that the one you mean?
  9. Congrats on just getting it done, plus a nice paint job - fitting the cab/hood/fenders is tricky; if you channel the cab over the fender unit about 1/16, everything lines up. Of course then the door panel bottoms interfere with the floor, so more trimming... At least the sum of the parts has a very accurate look to it like most of the other Monogram 1/24 kits of the period.
  10. Looks like the wheels and tires from the Monogram '32 Cadillac would be a big help in improving the Auburn's appearance.
  11. Can't believe someone hasn't come up with this idea already (did a lot of image searching and had to 'shop it myself):
  12. I spy a Minicraft 1/144 scale Douglas C-54 on the right side of the fourth photo - nice! Any more Minicraft kits there? Did they have the Lindberg Mercedes vintage racer in there with the Stutz?
  13. Looking at the rear wheel wells, I'm thinking slicks and a big rake like a T-bucket - keep us posted!
  14. Rats - didn't read this notice until 4 AM Sunday. Thought it wasn't until October, but I had too much month at the end of my money anyway What's the date for February?
  15. Actually, after a bunch of searching, I found that there never have been any 6-lug spiders. No biggie - I'm not that far along anyway. Sorry for the detour! Now back to the topic at hand...
  16. Thanks Bill! Now if I removed the centers and trimmed them I could make six-lug spiders (if there ever was such a thing?).
  17. How much time do you give it between the black and the clear? That engine looks terrific!
  18. Could someone please post a front and back photo of the six-lug wheels? They might be good for the '67 Chevy pickup I have in the works.
  19. Hope they do the A990 first - really want to build the Chicago police car from Cooley High without having to do another roof transplant. Maybe a longshot, but how about adding a photoetch grille and wheel spokes?
  20. Great save on this one, Richard! If you like, you can type [ img ] before and [ /img ] after each of your photo links and they should show up on this page. (Without the spaces I had to add before it would make sense...)
  21. Fine work on the little Chevy. What kit was the rear bumper from?
  22. Now that is boss. I'll be reading up on it. Thanks!
  23. Yep, and the mirror could be tilted with a thumbwheel to get the best angle for the driver. Nice idea, but did any of you Buick owners have trouble with reflections or glare at night?
  24. Too bad nobody was running T-birds at NASCAR or road courses in '71 - a Holman-Moodyized version would have looked badass. If you don't like it, you could always build it as a famous movie car:
  25. In my experience it made the plastic (AMT 1962 plastic) more brittle but didn't seem to affect it externally. I wrapped a piece of cloth over the car and soaked that rather than pouring it in a bowl so I used less liquid. Now I just use it with a brush to dissolve stubborn spots or stains that the purple stuff didn't remove.
