Ugh - what a hassle. At least now we know not to use Testors clear coat. Which clear will you be using instead? -
Very Sad News from ModelHaus Today

Very sorry to hear about this. Obituary here: http://herald-review.com/lifestyles/announcements/obituaries/holthaus-steven-andrew/article_4d422ee1-100c-55bf-8fa4-4f539d8d10b3.html -
The transition from the body to the roof C-pillars looks good now! I bet a lot of old '61 Chevy/Pontiac/Olds/Buick kits will be getting this roof spliced in.

What did you see on the road today?
ChrisBcritter replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very surprised yesterday to see a green vintage Morgan 3-wheeler turning east on Route 176 from Waukegan Road - absolutely cherry (and dwarfed by all the other cars around it!). -
Drove over to Streamwood at 4 AM to go to an estate sale (and signed in fourth on the list) - they let us in at 8 AM and I headed for the room that had these: Unfortunately everything was marked at retail (like $40 for the '70 Bonneville and $20-$25 for the rest) except the AMT '70 Impala at the bottom left - sealed inside, grabbed it for ten bucks; plus for two bucks more, a boxful of vintage kit wheels and hubcaps (including a set of '57 Plymouth wheelcovers, 1 3/4 sets of moon discs, '36 Ford custom hubcaps, some nice mags plus axles and screws), a Mini-Lindy 1/64 AMC Gremlin and this decal from the long-gone Santa Fe Speedway: Any Chicagoans here remember their radio jingle? "Come on down to the Santa Fe Speedway Get goosebumps as they scream down the straightaway Super Stock cars slidin' this way and thataway Round the clay track at the Santa Fe Speedway!" I have a much larger version of the image on Flickr if you like: https://www.flickr.com/photos/62734960@N02/16566763084/sizes/o/

Niiiice. I may be able to help you on the stock wheelcovers - let me check the stash. I also have a line on a pair of Revell '62 Dodge wheelcovers (same as '63) that are more accurate - I have to pick 'em up and cast some copies.

1/25 Revell '29 Model A Roadster 2'n'1
ChrisBcritter replied to mrknowetall's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great details here - notice the little notches in the wheel trim rings for valve stems. Gabriel, in which photo do you see the intake and valve covers together? Photo #3 shows the valve covers and valley cover as separate items, and photo #4 shows the manifolds for the six Stromberg carbs on the far right. If you mean the object in photo #7 to the right of the brake drums, I'm pretty sure that's a fuel tank. -

I've only used about 35% - and that wouldn't explain the "3 characters" notice. -
Twice this week I've been unable to reply directly to a PM - I'm getting some sort of weird error message (last one was "need to type more than 3 characters" after I'd written a whole paragraph). I have been able to send them only by going to the other person's profile page and sending it as a new message. Anyone else having this issue?

Dream Truck
ChrisBcritter replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A little info on the accident I posted a couple years ago on the H.A.M.B.: Re the Dream Truck: It may not be well known just how the accident happened. Spence Murray spilled the beans with this tidbit tucked into a 1967 Rod & Custom tire article: -

Now that's intriguing - is that one on the far left an AMT '57 Ford with the front clip from an Edsel? How did you build it? -

OK. Sorry to go OT - but is anyone else noticing Photobucket images are taking forever to load on the page? They're doing the same thing on another (aviation) forum I go to a lot. ETA: Just tried it on Chrome as well - still no go. -
AMT 1958 Ford roof question

Just one bump to see if anyone has a '58 they can measure (a Modelhaus copy would work too). -
OK, shutting this one down.

2015 Revell share the Dream

Pleasantly surprised to see the Ford Maverick as the highest-voted car on the list at the moment (3929 votes including mine). -
And even when they're cut up, they're expensive - and some of them have no stock build option. I passed on some kits that were at the Morton Grove Salvation Army store yesterday - three sealed Lindberg '64 Color Me Gone Dodges; they want $22.90 each plus an opened Pocher Alfa Romeo that I didn't bother looking at when they said they wanted four hundred bucks... I go to thrift stores to avoid paying retail.

"It Never Rains in Southern California" - Albert Hammond (oh not ooh) Some of you guys hate it but it's a sentimental favorite - first song I ever heard on WLS.

It's my party and I'll be happy if I want to... although I think I was being a wee bit too happy for a Monogram Porsche 904. -

Well, here's one U.S. supplier for the foil: https://www.confectioneryhouse.com/candies/6-x-7-in-silver-foil-candy-wrappers $9.99 for 125 6" x 7" sheets plus minimum $7.15 to ship here (If you're lucky enough to be in Troy, NY you can pick it up over their counter for $2.50). On eBay, 125 5 1/2" x 7 1/4": $9.99 plus $2.50 shipping: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silver-Candy-Foil-Wrappers-Confectionery-Foil-125-count-/151009600518?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item2328dfa406 Note the specification on both: .00045 gauge. Wonder how that compares to BMF and regular household foil?
