1960 Ford Promotionals question
ChrisBcritter replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This looks like another case of the plastic shrinking more than warping - some models get all banana-shaped (if that Ford was a Starliner, for example) and others (like some '55 Buick Roadmaster sedans and '55-'56 Dodges I've seen) stay relatively straight but shrink overall so the bumpers are 1/4" too wide and the wheelbase is too long. If I had that '60 Comet I'd be shopping it around to resin casters - it's the straightest one I've ever seen! (Wonder if it might be a very early Cycolac prototype?) -
If you learn about kerning you'll never typeset something that looks like this.

Anybody tried Bondic yet?

I can see certain limitations; note this exchange from Gizmodo: http://gizmodo.com/super-glues-got-nothing-on-this-liquid-plastic-you-hard-1666641845?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_twitter&utm_source=gizmodo_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow So this may nix a lot of modeling applications, but might be good for others. I think this might be very handy for casting small parts when you'd have to make a tiny batch of resin otherwise. Depending how clear it dries, maybe it would be good for installing windshields? -
Shoulda have read my horoscope this morning....

You'll get pulled over if you don't have plates - just save, reduce and print these out: You're on your own for the '74 sticker and the City Ford frames, though... -

"Rust Never Sleeps"? -
Got the underhood items (firewall, radiator, horns, battery) for my AMT '63 Impala (this was the old Model King issue that didn't have those parts). Got outbid on the taillight lenses, however...

Guess I better pull the plug out of the old jukebox on this one - thought for sure one of our many locals would get it since it was a big hit here in 1966: "I Confess" - New Colony Six

"Uneasy Rider" - Charlie Daniels

If you have one of these kits handy, could you measure and tell me the outside diameter of the tires, the width of the front clip, and the width of the front track? I'm trying to see if the truck chassis and front end could be combined with the vintage plastic toy school bus I just got (eBay listing with photos here; overall length is 7 1/2" and wheelbase is 4 1/2"). Thanks! -Chris

The school bus arrived yesterday, along with an NOS set of Aurora custom grilles and trim: So the bus looks like it's right around 1/48 - 1/50 scale (48-passenger body, 4 1/2" wheelbase, 7 1/2" overall length. Wheel rims are 3/8" diameter).

You mean rivet counters. The bean counters are the ones at the model companies that arouse the ire of the rivet counters. -
A retirement coming in the aftermarket!

Just put in an order and sent my best wishes for their retirement, with hopes that they can find someone worthy to take over the business. -

Oh boy. My heart sank when I saw the heading - "please don't let this be Modelha...aw, dammit." Better get my order in... -
In January 1967 (age 6 1/2) I was looking at my new calendar and wrote "BAD LUCK DAY" in big black letters on Friday, Jan 13. My mother saw it and reminded me "You have a new baby brother or sister due that day." So I said OK and fixed it to say "NEW BABY BAD LUCK DAY." My mother wasn't too pleased! (My new little brother didn't take any chances; he made his entrance on Thursday the 12th.)

"Someday you say that someday you may Be my girl Hand in hand we'll walk, through the land we'll walk Around the world But right now..." Hint: Should be easy - Chicago band. Not the Buckinghams. Song is actually made up of fragments of three unfinished songs.

Eddie Holland - Jamie Motown label ? Righto!

"Hair so long and pretty Eyes that shine like gold She has the kind of love for me That will never, never grow old..." Hint: Better known as a songwriter. Sounds a LOT like Jackie Wilson.

I did that for Jalopnik once: -
Definitely taller. If you're going to build a Ford wagon, you'll be using nothing more than the front clip from the Ford coupe's body (and that will have to be modified). Something nobody's mentioned - the '49 Mercury design was originally supposed to be the '49 Ford, but late in the game the Ford got an all-new design and it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't enough time or money to do a separate wagon on the new platform, so they used the already-done Mercury for both. Anyone know for sure?
