When do you open your kits?

When do I open my kits? -
Baby got new shoes! And a bath. This is the '61 Falcon I posted a little while back - just got a full set of NOS AMT compact tires and open wheels from a '63 Fairlane (which need to be modded to four-lug or get hubcaps), and stripped off a whole bunch of white paint, followed by some more stubborn blue paint. Thinking of deleting the side trim to backdate it to '60 since I have the grille. As I got it:

1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BROUGHAM,,quality questions?
ChrisBcritter replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Is it 1/18? I have one of the Franklin Mint Eldos and they don't have closed side windows. -
The deletion of the working headlight feature is why to this day the engraved headlights look odd in this kit - they stick out from the bezels. Check out a '64 Impala promo grille to see how they should look.

Sign me up for a '73 as well - it was our family's first new car since 1957: (Dark green, white top, green cloth bench seat interior. Taken in '76 - can't believe it's the only photo we have... )

"Well, the Georgia patrol was a-makin' the rounds..." Sweet job with this one! I take it the original master was based on that '49 Olds diecast bank?

Pimp my Panhard - I'm Not making this up!
ChrisBcritter replied to Junkman's topic in Diecast Corner
Here you go. First the D-B: I recall despite it being a small local auction, it sold to some big-time sports car builder for $95K plus tax and fees. Now the Panhard Dyna-based fiberglass job: Strange thing was, despite its having been licensed and (I guess) street-driven, it looked like it had never had headlights. Sold for $18K. -
Pimp my Panhard - I'm Not making this up!
ChrisBcritter replied to Junkman's topic in Diecast Corner
Speaking of Panhards: These two cars showed up at the L.A. County Administrator estate auction about ten years ago... (sorry - poorly lit warehouse) A fiberglass-bodied Panhard Dyna-based sports car and the Panhard-powered Deutsch-et-Bonnet that won its class at LeMans in the late '50s. I have a lot more photos if you'd like to see them; if so should I put them here or under the 1/1 section? -
Are the '68 seats the same? http://www.ebay.com/itm/MPC-1968-PONTIAC-BONNEVILLE-ORIGINAL-BUCKET-SEATS-NOS-KIT-968-CIRCA-1968-/331478355903?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d2da64fbf

I picked up one of the reissue '56 Chryslers; really all it needs to be stock is the correct grille insert (the custom part has a '51 Meteor grille bar). Wish someone would cast up the original.

Really hate to pull the plug on this one; thought for sure somebody would get them, but it's been six days... Red Mustang: The Deadly Tower (1975) - Lead actor: Kurt Russell - Actor in two Bond films: Clifton James White Mustang: Targets (1968) - Lead actor: Tim O'Kelly - Director/co-star: Peter Bogdanovich - Famous actor co-star: Boris Karloff Subject: Charles Whitman sniper incident in Austin, Texas (Targets borrowed many elements from this event plus a 1965 sniper incident in southern California where a 16-year-old boy shot at cars on Highway 101. It's a truly scary film - the sniper's last words are especially chilling. The Deadly Tower is very good, as well, and fairly accurate, but it's loaded with 1970s cars when it's supposed to be set in 1966.)

What non-auto model did you get today?
ChrisBcritter replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Most recent non-car I've picked up was the new Revell 1/48 Stearman; I'll be doing it in NAS Glenview markings since I have a bunch of wartime photos of wrecked Glenview birds to go from. Lots of little variations in the markings, but pretty simple nonetheless. (photo courtesy modelingmadness.com) -
And re the language: It's pretty annoying the way it's used currently but I do love hearing outtakes that turn blue - try listening to "Think Twice" by Jackie Wilson and LaVern Baker, then listen to the outtake "Think Twice - Version X" (which I really couldn't find two lines I could use here!) without laughing even harder than Jackie and LaVern are...

Acres of gleaming maroon on that body! Looks so real until you see the giant hand holding the camera reflected on the side. Looking forward to many more!
