  1. Guess this would be called a bed truck ? I wasn't adding gin poles or 5th wheel, just a heavy winch or 2 inside a cage. I found a photo of one pulling a water tank onto the bed, and might scratch one in process..dunno yet ! any feedback about them would be great, I'm just learning about these types of equipment. So far they're being quiet... probably confusing them since I'm home all day now ! Me Too !! I dont have much shelf space left for anything else right now !
  2. looks good Sam ! Really cool detail adding the screw holes to the deck boards . A little scuffing along the metal parts and you nailed it
  3. Its allowed , and looking forward to your build! Are you planning to add the lowboy behind it ? Trumpeter makes very well engineered kits , and instructions are generally well done
  4. Sooo...I knew I'd need to replace the front springs to taller stack after that huge engine caused them to sag.. That's using the kit springs lol !!! Anyone know a good welder ? Guess I'm making new springs. I broke out the envisioning tool..and mocked up the bed layout. That's 105k winch from plaskit , and definitely up to the task. I guesstimate a 24 ft bed . The frame will get chopped off right after the wheels , leaving room for the large roller seen on these trucks anyone who's built one , or seen them please jump in and feel free to make suggestions.
  5. Knocking this one right together ! I'd love to build a few more , but very limited to space lol You'll have a finished build in no time now , then ya have time to build your golf course out back
  6. We're already into April, had several builders finish their projects and many really making progress!!! Fun part of these groups is watching each build transform from a box of plastic to a finished model . Keep up the great work
  7. Thanks Sam ! I tend to get distracted but during our forced stay home, I've been knocking em out ! My first, and definitely not my last Hahaha found my envisioning tool...took a few days to read thru your playbook..and now ready to build Thanks Jim ! I'm gonna chop some length off the frame behind axles , yet to be determined
  8. Your awesome Kerry , laughed so hard I'm in tears
  9. Those enormous tires aren't gonna turn themselves...a 12v71T dropped right in Playing around w fuel tank ideas. KW round tanks , a married pair of squarish tanks from paystar..or something custom..havent decided yet oh dont worry I havent lost my mind...those chevy monza mufflers are coming off...you gotta hear that buzzin dozen !!! That's it for now..I'm fabricating the " pit " fenders common on the C500.
  10. Well I thought I had started a post about this before , but search didnt yield anything. The squirrels started waking up after winter and running amuck lately. They dared me to build an oil field truck. I had traded sam I am awhile ago for a KW Alaskan hauler build..and that's where this started .This will be a Winch truck The proposed list..huge power..12v71 T , huge tires since I wanted a 6x6 , winches to drag equipment onto the steel bed , an enormous pusher bumper , ..and piles of tool bins. The truck from Sam was already stretched perfectly for the winch bed HD tires from KFS will keep this truck moving thru the job site Rubber block suspension from plaskit I stuck a set of Rockwell axles from the autocar dump truck under it...and hung the tires more to come !
  11. Oh yeah that motor definitely knew where it wanted to be..now to figure out the turbo layout since this engine is fron the race truck
  12. That beast dropped right in...oh this is gonna be fun... Thanks , I should've just tried it lol
  13. Holy smokes JT that's a beautiful trailer !! The fab is spot on !! There must be something in the water in Texas , theres some seriously skilled fabricators in the Lone Star State
  14. Okay...need assurance that my next build will be plausible before hacking away. I'm planning using a KW Alaskan hauler turning it into a rugged oilfield truck , w the wider " pit fenders " seen on the C500. Will the " buzzin dozen " fit under the hood without major changes ?? I know theres a resin C500 available, but its currently out of stock, and I'm trying to stay busy during lock down..I can scratch a set of the wider fenders Any advice , photos , comments gladly welcome! !! This is the direction I'd like to take this build , not my photo..
  15. Little progress photos , just need a couple wash nozzles and wipers added and its complete. I fabbed the mirror mounts and made spot mirrors from a polished thumb tack ! A small bit of burnt umber wash was dabbed around rims, the folding points on the boom , and the suspension. I kept the dirt to a bare minimum even though these trucks where heavily used Enjoy any feedback welcome !!!
  16. Beautiful truck, the black and gold really look good on it .
  17. Sorry to hijack your thread..back to the wrecker !!!
  18. Yeah..saw the truck a few yrs ago at homecoming show . Always planning and gathering intel lol
  19. I know..sorry about that..their scheming again around my house . Heard the younger one, hes kinda shy mumble something about a snowdog..a loud snowdog.. He did catch me looking at this photo
  20. Sounds like a Plan !!! Break out the envisioning tool !!!
  21. Now your ROCKING !!! That's gonna be awesome looking next to your other trucks
  22. When I built the Russian Maz 537 , I dirtied the wood after in place. I broke corners away , and weathered w thinned oil very very thin solutions of a few . Powered dust was last . A gray wash over all for a sun faded look , w drips of oil in select spots . Thinned sienna or burnt umber, run around made convincing aging . Best advice I got from armor builders was try a section on spare wood..get a feel for how itll look..ohh and let the layers dry a little before the next or they tend to mix
  23. Looks good ! Getting the older designed frames square and level is a chore but when done they work out
