  1. From what I recall, 'World's Fastest Indian" got it pretty close.
  2. Even if you couldn't care less about the cars from Grease, (I know I couldn't), suspect there's a few Merc fans out there who could go for a convertible version.
  3. P M Hobby had a Cyber Monday sale, so I picked these up.
  4. There's a little bit of everything in that thing. the grille is a little Studebaker, a little Lincoln, the wheels could be Cord, and the headlights could be '39 Plymouth too.
  5. And the very first one was red.
  6. In the comics, just about anything has been a Batmobile at some point, so why not a Cobra? Now for decent turbines, there's the Revell Parts Pack turbine, and the Jo-han turbine car. Didn't some of the MPC Corvette kits have a turbine option?
  7. What I find odd is that we have categories for drag racing and NASCAR, but nothing for competition in general. It's like that club owner in The Blues Brothers who proudly says that his guests like both kinds of music, Country, and Western.
  8. If you want to make a stock '34 Ford pickup, it's the only game in town.
  9. This article has pages from an original Frotenac catalogue http://theoldmotor.com/?p=44904
  10. Oh, I'm sure somebody will. I certainly won't be one of them.
  11. The LHS still had some on the shelves a few months back, so I picked on up. I probably saved $20 this way, and I have a use in mind for the billet wheels that came with the kit.
  12. That would be an interesting way to update the Vega kit, depending, of course on how much effort would be involved to tooling up the necessary extra parts. Off the top of my head, that would be a set of wheels, and a Cosworth head and associated plumbing. Anyone remember if the Cosworth Vega had any other special parts?
  13. Then a little BMF should take care of that, and probably look better than a separate ring. I have a couple of the Revell '40s and the trims rings are easily the most realistic ones, but are also insanely delicate.
  14. All very good points. Now I'm imagining an annoyed Reid Railton demanding to know how a set of tires can just disappear.
  15. They could take inspiration from the 1928 Opel Rak 2, and keep the wings, only use them to stay on the ground. As for tires, it looks like Eyston's Thunderbolt had tires that were made specially for its record attempt, and possibly the Campbell Bluebird and the Railton Mobil Special, so special high speed tires were already a thing by the end of WW2. In any case, Dunlop was already making tires that were good for at least 400 mph. Maybe a sponsorship from one of the tire companies in exchange for tires that were up to the job?
  16. I did watch it, and he used the custom wheels, and if there were trim rings they weren't on the part of the chrome tree he showed to the camera, which is why I am asking.
  17. Are there trim rings for the stock wheels? Also pondering how much work would be involved in making a Sportsman version.
  18. It looks like it will make a very nice stock '48 Ford convertible, and those chrome wheels are definitely useful for any period hot rod. I'm tempted to get one.
  19. Virgil Exner Jr., who had a hand in the Revivals, did end up working for Ford, which explains so much about '70s Ford styling.
  20. It wouldn't surprise me. Whoever was responsible for hubcap design at Chrysler for the late 70s to the early 80s seemed to have a serious Bugatti fixation
  21. I never knew anyone made a kit of it. Thanks for the info!
  22. And for the kit bashers, Revell kits were a great source of nice parts. I'm okay with a kit taking a while. The way I see it, what I'm really buying modeling time. Something with lots of parts gives me more modeling time. With kits costing what they do, the last thing I want is something that goes together in 5 minutes.
  23. That is pretty neat. Thanks for sharing!
  24. Lots of people talk about building their own car, but here's one guy who did it.
  25. Oh yes, there were a few things that had me going "hmmmmmm....", before shipping costs and space requirements brought me back to my senses. Marcello Gandini's drafting table? In car nut terms, that's practically a holy relic.
