Thanks Tim! I'm slanting towards option #1 it looks like. I did go out today and get the aluminum tubing I needed from HL. Here's how it looks right out of the package.. So I cut a section and chucked it up in the Makita drill, grabbed some steel wool and went to town........... After the steel wool treatment I grabbed some Novus #2 and a polishing cloth. I dabbed some Novus on the polishing cloth and spun the drill up again on a low/ medium speed to polish the "tips" up. Here we are now with some nice exhaust tips. You can see the contrast between the side that was chucked up in the drill and the polished part. I'm happy!

'Preciate it Dave and JC! Well I've got the beginnings of the tail pipe routings and am at another decision point as to where I'm going to go with the exhaust. First off here's todays progress... I have two options at this point and both will involve chrome exhaust tips. Option #1 is to drop one outlet per side which will look great from the top side but looks a little funny on the bottom side to me. Option #2 is to drop both outlets on the same side which looks more uniform to me on the bottom side but to me doesn't look as good from the top side. I never was too big of a fan of same side exhaust exits though..... I've still got to go pick up my aluminum exhaust tips today so I've got a little time to think about it.

Carl: I made them out of the same solder but drilled the ends out in order to hollow 'em out. I just couldn't bring myself to end there though. Dan: Thanks buddy! Progress on this thing is super slow due to my not wanting to get ahead of myself and have fit issues. For instance, I glued the exhaust into place yesterday and I found a small glitch this morning when test fitting the cab onto the chassis. The rear of the cab contacted the mufflers so I had to trim the cab to fit onto the chassis correctly. So far it's coming along ok. I'm going to run the exhaust straight out the back and am going to start looking for some either AM exhaust tips or I'm going to fabricate my own and use a little chrome alclad on them. Anyways here are the beginnings of the tailpipes....... The stance is dead on so far in regards to how I wanted this to look overall. I keep getting closer and closer to having this thing done in time for the Austin show in October...............

I like this unique twist to this kit! Awesome conversion! -
Gator: Thanks! I'll get past the paint issue. Honestly I'm glad I stripped the body all the way back down. I noticed a nasty warp in the body up front and it would have resulted in a "twisted " look had I not caught it. A little bath in some near boiling water and I was able to straighten the twist right out. Mike: Thanks for your encouragement. I bought some Tamiya acrylic red paint and some acrylic gloss clear this last weekend and will now be shooting my paint through an airbrush vs. the rattle can approach. At the very minimum I'll have more control. Carl: Thanks for the good word Carl. I'm glad to be back on it too buddy. Just got a little overwhelmed with how I wanted the exhaust and a little frustrated with the paint issues but we're moving forward now. I got back on the exhaust again this morning after taking a day off from it. I got the passengers side exhaust lead pipe formed, the front of it pinned so it would fit into the exhaust manifold and then got the length trimmed off so that the muffler would sit nicely beside the other one. All I've got to do now is drill into the muffler so I can pin it to the lead pipe then I'll see about how I want to go about with the tail pipes. If I do tail pipes I'll most likely make them same side exits with chrome tips. If not , it'll be turn downs. We'll see..............

Been away for a bit and had to come check this out. Everything looks great so far JC! That paint job rocks dude! -
Ok folks. I'm back from the dead with this one. I had to just back away from it for a little bit to regroup and come back. I started on the exhaust system yesterday and chose solder as the piping. The mufflers I got from a LHS in San Antonio last month that I like to frequent when I'm up there. One of my lighting fixtures when kaput on me so I only have one light for the time being so the picture quality isn't what I like but here it is so far............

Been a little bit since I've been on this one. I tried to paint the body but it turned out terribly. Will be back on it soon. I'm on my 30 year old 37 Chevy resto right now so I can actually finish something. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/103667-30-year-old-amt-37-chevy-gasser-rolling-chassis-0714/

Thanks Carl! Fleas and bed bugs...........got it! Well I worked on the engine a little today. I'm going to replace the exhaust but I'm trying to stick as close to my building style back then as possible. New chrome wheels mandate new chrome exhaust you know. Anyways I did manage to get a couple of test fit shots of most everything together today. The fit of the body onto the chassis is lousy at best. I'll work on it and get everything lined up for when the final assy time comes. -

Kevin: Man I hear ya on tossed models. I must have thrown 12-14 planes away when I was a kid. Wished I had 'em all now. Thanks for the good comments bud. Andy: 'preciate it! It was a new trick that I learned and liked the results. God only knows how long its been around. lol -
I think I tried it when I was a kid and gave up on it. I'm willin' to give 'er another go though....

Got the wheels and tires installed. Refer to post #30 for where are the wheels and tires came from. It's the perfect match up to me though. Rollin' chassis aside from bumpers is done.... -

Thanks Carl and Jim! You know, initially I had no interest in this car. I had all of them out of that room except this one and at that time I didn't care whether this thing got thrown out or whatever. Then for some reason I had envisioned a resto on it and wanted it back. I aint gonna go crazy with this thing as I don't want to alter it.......that much. I am putting new bumpers and wheels on it from the newer kit. The fronts will be OOB and the rears are deep dish Cragars that I robbed out a Barris T Buggy kit . The rear tires will be new from the newer boxing and look superb and the fronts are skinnies from the Motorcraft T-Bird Pro Stock kit. I'll be replacing all of the door handles and rear deck latch and stop lamps as well. Engine will stay the same except for the supercharger intake. That thing just has to be replaced!!!! Speaking of wheels I tried a trick that I didn't know anything about until about a month ago. I painted the chrome on the wheels with Tamiya Smoke X-19 thinned heavily with 70% ISO alcohol to produce a subtle , yet noticeable effect. In the picture below , the wheel on the left has been given the "smoke" treatment whereas the one on the right is straight OOB. IMO it gives it a more realistic look. Check it out:
