  1. I'll do a double check in a minute. Thanks Joe
  2. Joseph:Thanks buddy. I'm looking around for my spare "Six Pack" Decal. Hopefully I find it. Randy:I usually use the same technique on all my aircraft engines and cockpits. So far the method hasn't failed me yet. John:I ended up using MM acrylic Insternationa Orange. If I apply another coat or two in the right places it'll be a little brighter. I ran out of time this morning and looks like I'm gonna get my shot at repainting it due to the additional work I'm going to have to be doing on the seams. lol
  3. Alright. I filled the gaps on this jewel and primed it in black to bring out the shadows in the nooks and crannys and to dull the effect of the orange MM acrylic paint I bought the other day at HL that I thought was entirely too bright once I opened the bottle. Oh well, we'll deal with it. Primered black engine.............. Another reason for the darker color is that I'm building this one with a few miles on it and I remembered after all of my real life engine builds had some mileage on it , the paint finish seemed to darken a bit from oils and heat. The valve covers will be a tad brighter and the air cleaner a little more bright. Still got some touch up to do on that oil pan looks like. The benefit of close up pics.............they never lie. and the comparison pics from before and after. Man the original engine is almost florescent in color. What was cool through 14 year old eyes: A near chrome oil pan, exhaust manifolds and gearbox. Hey, I was having fun. I went with a little more realistic look for this build. I've gotta watch it because I've seen this color on Chevy engines a time or two. lol Seems like with each new pic I find something else I missed. That seam line at the front of the oil pan is sticking out like a sore thumb The gaps on the front of the engine I can live with as those are getting covered up but that oil pan. Welp! It looks like its back to the drawing board to take care of that. lol
  4. Lookin' forward to the paint job on this one as wel! MM acrylics I presume?
  5. This whole assy line thing is cool Tom! I'd be having sensory overload! lol
  6. Just how DID you replicate the coolant and w/s washer bottle contents anyhow? Is it straight up paint or tinted?
  7. You'll get it figured out with the pics. Looks like you're off to a start pal. Personal message coming your way.....
  8. Thanks Tim! I appreciate the help. I just recently found out about Novus so I'll be checking more into that. As far as Corpus goes, this place changes more and more every day. This place is literally blowing up on Rodd Field Rd. New businesses and buildings going up everywhere between SPID and Yorktown!
  9. Man Tim that finish looks awesome! How in the hell did you get such an amazing gloss finish using MM acrylic gloss? I have YET to have mine get any where NEAR that shiny and understand there's a common problem with that. HInts and suggestions would be welcomed. Again, awesome job on this build! She sure is purdy!
  10. Impressive detail throughout! Engine is packed as well as the interior and the paint looks great! All of it looks good Ken
  11. Thanks Joe! It took me a long while to get used to painting large areas but after some time it I tended to get a little braver as well as more curious in pushing new boundaries. Anxious to see your work. Good ol' Monogram engine blocks with the oil pan molded in. Ah well it just modeling. Got a gap to take care of on the bottom side.
  12. I like the color of this car. I had this same kit when I was a kid and lost it through the years. I may try to get another one after watching all of this! Keep up the good work!
  13. I'll keep an eye out for this one.
  14. Thank you Carl! Bring em on Jeff. I'm lookin' forward to those. Ok gang! I got this thing decaled yesterday and glossed this morning. The roof is not as good as I wanted to to be but I think I'm going to get one of those polishing kits that folks keep talking about and see if I can work any magic there. Other than that it turned out ok. I still have to pick out details like door handles, the Mopar medallion and side marker lights. I also can't forget stuff like the drip railing , front chrome trim, rear chrome trim and window trim thats gonna get the ol' BMF treatment. One of the things that's cool about building cars is that there's no shortage of reference pics and this car is no exception. I found a slew of pics on this car. I just had to weed out some of the more non O.E.M looks and get fairly close to stock. That means this: Has to be changed up somewhat. So................................ We start fresh.
  15. I'm currently two and a half builds away from this (the Monogram Challenger I'm building in a WIP here and two Bf109s) I'm getting the itch to build another Pacific warbird after the Monogram Dauntless build that I did last year and I'm not going Revellogram this time. This time it's gonna be in the form of an Eduard offering (thank God). and its gonn HAVE to get the wing folding kit to fold at least one wing back.................... I'll also be getting some more PE for it in the form of an interior set (although the Profipack series generally has a little of this covered) and a wing gun panel open up set. This one's gonna be some good fun. Can hardly wait to start breakin' out the blue paint again.
  16. Thanks alot Bill! Some people use paint for that. Man , I just aint that brave as I wrap up alot of time in paint on my aircraft builds and to use paints and mess it up in the final stages would mean a huge amount of work. I use dry brushed on ground up pastel for that starting with a base coat of black and white mixed together to get the dark gray base to simulate the burned paint effect. I followed that up with a light dry brushing of a light brown pastel to simulate oils that collected just outside of the exhaust pipe. Finally the exhaust staining turns slightly black, simulating soot, (using straight black ground up pastel) towards the end of the stain over the wing where the aircraft numerals are. Pastels are safe and forgiving and if I mess up or need a touch up, the repairs are always easy. The only thing is that you CANNOT spray a clear coat over them as it erases all of it.
  17. Why thank you Wayne! Good to see you 'round these parts again brutha!
  18. Now THAT'S a story you got there Gary. I'll be looking for the re-build of yours and thanks for the good word on mine. I'm like you and alot of others on that relaxation bit. My wife thinks I'm half crazy sometimes as I deal mostly in 48th scale builds but I've got some idle time on my hands until Jan 1st and got "the bug" to work with a car........................finally. I have a 90 Mustang LX coupe I want to build but that's going to involve alot of resin and PE parts and would take longer than the time I have right now. I just got finished with a Corsair in the "All the Rest" section and will be moving on to two Bf109 builds on the 1st of January so I've got just enough time to go a little slow and do a decent job on it. I, like you, was gone from the model building scene for a long while and found my way back to it in 2012 only this time I got in with the forums and find myself at home in them amongst "birds of a feather". Alot of folks just dont get how rewarding this hobby really is and it's nice to be able to come to places like this and converse with others who share the interest and get better at building along the way.
  19. Lookin' forward to seeing that one Joseph!
  20. Where do you come up with some of this stuff Ira? You have a true gift for making things out of things that most folks don't even see coming.
  21. Thanks Jeff. It's pretty much a re-start. Got pics?
  22. Man Mike! I hope I do as good a job on my re-build of my Challenger as you're doing here. Good going man.
  23. I was searching around in my stash totes last night because I just knew I bought something that would help out with what I'm dong here. Yup , I found it! So this is what I started with using the 3200 grit sanding pad : and what I ended up with all the way through to the 12000 grit pad. That's more like it! A nice starting point.
  24. I like the imagination involved in this. Talk about drawing from the creative side of one's brain here! BTW Ira you're on the roster.
  25. Thanks Jose! Man thanks for the suggestion Wayne! Good seeing you around dude.
