Really hate to hear that Tom. Especially after the hard work you've been putting into this. Hope to see recovery efforts soon.

Thanks Francis! Yeah....lotsa power for such a small ride. Been working on the fuel induction the whole week. I started out with the intake runners and plenum. Shot with the unpainted carburetors from Futureattraction: Then I shot a coat of Tamiya X-31 Titanium Gold on 'em, filled in the throttle bores with some flat black and assembled them Then came a dark brown acrylic wash, allowed to dry and followed up with a dry brushing of ground up black pastel to flatten it all out and add some "age" to them. I took a comparative pic of both carbs. One on the left is with the wash and pastel treatment and the one on the right is without it. And with both carburetors painted and "weathered". Now.....it's time to add the details. -

I just didn't like how the "magneto" on the engine looked and it wasn't "correct" for the build so I removed it and went with a regular coil. I also dirtied up the ignition wires as well. Before: After: -

Thanks Francis. She went to her appointment today and was told that it was a vertical tear in her meniscus. She's going to be wearing a brace on her knee and going through therapy. So far no surgery. -

Thanks Mike. It'll get better at some point so I'm not letting it get me down and trying to be a source of encouragement to her. She goes to the doctor today to get the results of her MRI and then we'll know the path forward from there. -

Hey Mike! Thanks for the comments. I've been friggin' busy over the course of the last few weeks starting with my wife getting Covid then recovering from that to blowing her left knee out. She can't do a whole lot so I'm doing everything now. Cooking, cleaning , helping our son take care of his FFA pig, working...the whole sheebang. Just crazy busy and I feel lucky and blessed to have any modeling time at all right now. -

Managed to get all the ignition wires formed and installed over the last couple of days. This is NOT what I was opting for because these wires should be red but the "spark plug wire" that I got sent was the scale size of a battery cable so I went for orange. -

Thanks Scott! I had some red spark plug wire from Lex's Scale Modeling but that turned out to be the size of battery cables in scale so I'm going with a more correct diameter of wire in orange. Slight color difference will be offset by the correct size wire. Been forming all of the wires up and getting things like the distributor cap retainers and all that stuff put on the distributor this week. Hope to have an update soon. -
This is one really great build Wayne. It's also really cool that the email with the pics was forwarded up and that Coughlin responded. Awesome stuff bud.

Thanks Francis! Glad you're following along ol' buddy. Thank you as well Roger. Actually I do have an update. Still some tweeking left to do with the spark plug wire "boots" in the way of shortening them some but you get the idea behind the method. Over the course of the last week I've been at it again as far as engineering goes. I chucked up several of these pins that I have in the drill and ground the ends against a file to reduce the diameter of the pin heads. Then I cut all of the down to the same length (which they still need a little shortening). And here the plug wire boots test fitted into place. Just gotta shorten them some and thenpaint them semi gloss black and they'll be fully prepped for the wire install. (Part of what's been stalling this is waiting on the correct color of ignition wires to arrive in the mail which happened yesterday so forward we go) ... -
Thanks Larry!! 'Preciate that Carl! Distraction build while I'm still pluggin' away on the Maverick. Thanks Gareth! Thanks for the comments Dave!

Never saw this when it was originally posted but glad you brought this one back to life. Great paint and love the legendary GL decal ghosting. -
Always liked this one out of you Lee. Perfect build man.

Nice n' tidy build. I do remember these cars very well. Little screamers back in the day.

Thank you all for your comments. It was definitely a build that's out of my comfort zone. Thanks Steve. It took me around 2-3 hours to build this. I was on and off of it for an afternoon. If I were to sit down and devote undivided attention to it I could have gotten it done in an hour and a half. The engines and props were the hardest thing that I had to deal with aside from getting the fuselage bent to the correct arc so the bottom would go together easier. I used drill bits of different sizes to help with the rounded shaping of things like the engine nacelles and fuselage. Have PE bending tools on hand...that did help alot. Other than that it was fairly straightforward.

That is one impressive model you've built. Masterfully built.

My hat goes off to you for picking up a build that's 20 years old and moving towards the finish line. It's hard to make out the details in that first grainy picture but one can tell that there's been a whole helluva lot of time put into that engine. This looks GOOD so far. Looking forward to more.
