  1. How would an average person annual aluminum?
  2. What brand and color of rattle can primer would you recommend for under the metalizer aluminum plate?
  3. I followed one of the shim stock links and found thickness from .0001(!) and up but he aluminum stock is listed as"full hard"which is what shim stock is all about anyway being used to either increase or decrease the clearance between metal surfaces. The full hard would be impossible for me to work with for creating tapered and curved segments for the end shells of Airstream style trailers. Some builders can probably pull that off I'm sure, but not me.
  4. Let's hope the complainers are the minority. They have every right to not buy the kit as far as I'm concerned.Maybe that will make them happy.
  5. Thanks Andy,I had almost forgotten about soda can stock. There are several finished models in my collection from the 1960's with opened doors that are hanging on pop can hinges. That stuff is just flexible enough for me to bump the door and not break the whole door off.
  6. Yesterday I got a really great license plate for my collection. It is a 5" x 8" porcelin 1908 plate issued by the city of Columbus,Ohio.Only a handful of cities were doing this as the the state of Ohio did not require plates at that point. The plate is in exceptional condition considering that is 108 years old.
  7. And the information and helpful suggestions keep on coming. Thanks to everyone responding!
  8. Corrosive AND nasty ?? I think might have worked with both of those guys at some time in the past! Thanks for the tip.Did your mom happen to mention what the brand name of the developer was so I am sure to get the right stuff?
  9. My"happy moment"this past few days was finally finding some dimensions so I start scratch building a wooden "coupe cab"for my long running mid 1920's Mack AC flat bed truck project.I'd been looking for something other than an odd angled old photo for over a year so yes I am a happy hacker.
  10. No real cars or firearms, just finally got a modeling tool that I have wanted for a while. In one of only to hobby shops I know of near any town I frequent(still over 200 mile round trip)I found a Trumpeter scribing tool(last one they had).Neat little tool.I need to practice more but I'm glad to finally have it.
  11. Thanks for taking the extra time to post all of the great WIP photos. What a glorious mess you make, styrene flying everywhere, making 10 of this piece and 12 of that one,Scratch building heaven !!
  12. Nice tar pot trailer Dan.Looks show room new to me so I'm thinking that a weathered or job used one would be a whole lot dirtier?
  13. I will try the vinegar method tomorrow.I have already tried lacquer thinner, paint thinner, alcohol, gasoline and easy off oven cleaner with no luck.Incidently the 15" x 18" sheets I have are actually coated on both sides. Thanks again for all the helpful hints and suggestions.I'll keep trying!!
  14. I have given up looking for a chemical product to remove the emulsion from the printers plate.Acetone does not work at all.It looks like the only answer is to ebrade it with ever finer grades of sandpaper which is a never ending job. What I really wanted was a mirror like surface that I can use to cover my scale trailers with.I want to make them look like the those polished ones I see on line.that simply is not going to happen using this material.
  15. I have used a site named Acme license plate maker quite a few times. They offer a lot of different states and years to choose from.By printing them at a slight size reduction they can be printed to 1/25th scale and in full color.Best of all it's free!
  16. Art,I personally have never heard it called anything but printer's plate. You're probably correct seeing as how you are considerably older than I am:) Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions guys!
  17. Building this or watching you build it will surelly give all of us a better appeciation for the tremendous effort that ent into the creation of the original 1:1 car for the movie. It had to be a monumental task.Does the real movie car stil exist anywhere?
  18. This is not water soluble. It evidently uses a product called "developer".This information comes from the printer that gave me this supply of plate. That printer had not used this emulsified(coated)aluminum material for quite some time and no longer has any if the developer product available. My goal is to strip the emulsion off and polish the aluminum.I am currently building a series of three vintage travel trailers('35 and '36 Airstreams plus a teardrop shaped one)and would like to use some of .005" polished plate on them.
  19. I am looking for a source for developer used to remove the coating from aluminum printers plate. Thanks in advance for any information you can supply.
  20. Thanks for posting these guys!Great stuff.Isn't it amazing what we can turn a flat sheet styrene and some inspiration into? Please keep posting more of these amazing builds.
  21. thanks for sharing this great little trailer build!I love these early ":canned ham"as they were often called. Also appreciate you showing the under construction photos.Who knows this might just inspire some others to add one to their "gotta build"list of things to do.Great subject choice and attention to detail.
  22. Way out of my wheel house as far as subject matter goes, but great scale and detail fidelity. Thanks for sharing your vision and considerable skiil with us!
  23. Thanks or sharing his unique build with us Harry. Also thanks for posting the videos of these very and unique full size working replica machines. If we find them facinating today I can't imagine the intrest in them that early in the 1800's when the only alternatives were animal powered.Great choice of subject matter and superb executution!
  24. This is going to be a great example of the diesel punk style. The images I see as illustrations are in a hover position.Very nice with great imagination and execution. Thanks for sharing!
