  1. Great looking interior, Steven! The "chestnut" will look terrific with the black and while not typical, would've been an available option. What accent color will you use inside the exterior side molding?
  2. If you want to build an early quad-headlight C1 Corvette and aren't picky about the year, these are the most recent, "state-of-the-art" kits. The '59 kit is based on the '58, but has the optional hardtop. In addition to inaccurately shaped side coves, the old MPC '60 has a '56-'57 interior, if I remember correctly.
  3. Outstanding workmanship!
  4. Very impressive decal work! Great color choice on the Carrera.
  5. Wow! Hard to believe that's the same model! You're a freakin' magician!
  6. Super clean build!
  7. Thanks again everybody for the compliments!
  8. Thanks, Tom! Here are a couple shots from my T-bird project that should give you an idea of the masking process. I cut the black photographic tape in very thin strips to outline the pattern, then fill in with larger pieces of tape (on the 'bird I used Tamiya tape, on the Sunliner, regular 3M masking tape.) The photo tape is strong, yet flexible, allowing me to work around tight curves. Masking these has typically taken from eight to 12 hours. It should be noted that the process for the Sunliner was somewhat the opposite shown here. For the Sunliner, I masked the blue and white so the silver could be shot last.
  9. Thanks for the comments, guys! After all this time it seems strange not seeing this on the bench anymore. Now I've got to decides which of the 20+ unfinished projects returns to the head of the line!
  10. This project is finally finished! Check it out... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/107197-59-ford-sunliner-mild-custom-completed-at-last/
  11. The "Baby Blue Baby" is finished at last! Started in 2011 with a Junior Trophy Series hardtop molded in ivory and a Modelhaus convertible boot. Lots of stops to start other projects in between. This is my first finished model in nearly two years. Part of the saga is here... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/79169-59-ford-sunliner-mild-custom-paint-done-92015/
  12. Beautiful build! Looks like practical daily street transportation to me!
  13. Color me crazy but I prefer the original SMP annual! Ill-fitting opening doors and separate moldings are deal breakers for me on the other two, plus I really like working with these old, old kits.
  14. Cleaning up pretty well!
  15. At one time I was fortunate to have a mint, unbuilt Ideal 1/20th Mk-II in my collection, later sold along with almost everything else to go to art school. Anyway, I have to agree with you, Art, that the kit was quite accurate in proportion and scale. However, it was actually a relatively simple curbside kit with a one-piece body (no engine, opening hood, or doors.) It was very similar in concept to Monogram's 1/20th '55 & '56 Cadillacs, and would be a great companion piece for them on a shelf. It was molded in black, with a red interior, and plated wheels, bumper and emblems, along with rubber tires. While very simple, it would be a great basis for a highly detailed build.
  16. Very sharp build!
  17. Why do they call it a "Woodie" on the box?!
  18. Great project, Steven! I like the color combo you're going for. While the accent inside the side molding would probably have been white from the factory, I'm sure any dealer would've been willing to repaint it in Chestnut for any buyer who ordered a Sunliner with the 406-3x2V FE motor. If you want to change up the wheel/tire combo, keep in mind that most, if not all, high-performance Galaxies had heavy-duty suspension, bigger brakes, and 15" wheels rather than the standard 14-inchers. In '61 and '62 Galaxies with 15" wheels came with either '55-'56 dog-dish caps or '56 full wheel covers. The latter are, of course, in the AMT '56 Ford kit.
  19. Really beautiful build in every respect!
  20. This is such a cool kit! Looking forward to seeing your build!
  21. Great project(s), Ron! Having owned and driven two '66 Widcats, a 4DHT and a 2DHT, I have always loved these cars! Fast and comfy highway cruisers! Looking forward to seeing where you go with these!
  22. Good job! Wow, those dice are HUGE!
  23. Your workmanship is terrific, and I really enjoy seeing how careful detail painting brings out the best in these old kits. Those wheels look incredible!
