  1. The story that began this thread is so full of holes it should be In a Bonnie & Clyde movie.
  2. Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland has some nice pre-drilled distributors that look very realistic.
  3. That looks so much better than the 66 chassis. Did you also use the 67 Mustang 289 engine?
  4. That lo
  5. Looks very good. I'm curious how well the 67 chassis fit. I dislike the 66 Coupe chassis a lot so this sounds promising.
  6. I'll admit the IMCM is an impressive collection with all the models, parts packs and literature and paints, etc. Stepping outside of my modelers shoes for a minute I'll have to admit that at age 57 I would not have a clue who these builders are. While the early days of modeling are important to many, I'd guess most modelers under 50 may not "get it." There seems to be so much more available these days in the choice of kits and no lack of very skilled modelers. I'll go out on a limb and guess there isn't a similar museum for the early days for planes, armor and ships but no doubt if there was it would be sponsored by IPMS. I just wonder about the long term interest of a limited subject matter. If you go to the Rock and Roll hall of fame it isn't just about the 1950's and 1960's. Since there have been and there still are a lot of model car manufacturers, it would be akin to Ford, GM and Chrysler having a joint museum. Until the day when there is a joint effort between the manufacturers, magazines, and hobbyists for a more broad endeavor, keep on building and attending NNL shows and posting here. Maybe a virtual museum will get things rolling but it a way it is what exists not on this website now if you think about it. Perhaps the long term answer is a tie in to a full size car museum otherwise all these great models we have built are just going to end up on EBay going to the highest bidder.
  7. Welcome to our support group. We all have this lifelong obsession. You probably have access to some unique kits from down under and Asia. Post your builds and take your time.
  8. Are there more stock muscle cars and race cars? It seems like 90% of the models are street rods, customs, trucks and drag cars. A tv/movie car section (Barris) would seem logical. Where's the Batmobile?? IMHO a broader appeal might be the way to go to generate more interest.
  9. Sounds nice like you have a "squished" disc in your spine. Surgery make be able to diminish the constant pain but I've dealt with Sciatica for ten years and have learned what helps and what aggravated it. Don't rush into treatment - try a chiropractor before you go under the knife. Good luck. The MRI did not freak me out - I just closed my eyes and thought about model cars ;-)
  10. HRM may cast a curbside kit from and old snap kit body. I'll pass along more info when available.
  11. Looks better than most models I built after 20 years of modeling. The only thing I noticed that kit should not have the Mustang lettering on the fenders on a Shelby. My guess is the kit instructions do not tell you to sand them off. Otherwise, it's a sharp model with the striping nicely done.
  12. Welcome back. MRR was a great magazine and resource for 60's endurance race cars among others. I'm sure you will recognize many modelers on this site that have enjoyed the hobby for decades.
  13. Here is a morbid thought. In the next ten years older modelers with collections of hundreds of models will start dying off. Eventually all those height priced kits will be sold off for more reasonable prices. It's a topic most will avoid due to the morbid thought but it is becoming a reality among the real car hobby with owners of 1900-1930's cars dying off faster than museums can handle accepting the flood of cars the younger generation could care less about. Will this happen with our hobby? Time will tell.
  14. The Historic Racing Miniatures one is the most accurate, The ones from the Monogram 65-66 Mustangs are pretty good.
  15. Very nice paint scheme. The one thing that has held me back from adding a 351C to one of these Japanese kits is there are not many good substitutes for the transmission in this scale.
  16. I know it's going to be real long time before I tackle my 1/12 Trumpeter GT40, 1/12 Doyshua Mach1 and 1/12 Revell 65 GT350 Mustang. With 100 plus 1/24 and 1/25 kits plus some 1/43 ones it's gonna be a while.
  17. Monogram tried the 1/43rd market and made a very nice Corvette and 289 Cobra kit a few decades ago. They were plastic and even had engines and photo etched parts and were reasonably priced. I assume they did not sell very well in the US market which is a shame as they are really nice but perhaps too small for most modelers.
  18. Kits made by Marsh and others are high quality and had had photo etched parts for decades which the plastic kit manufacturers have been very slow to adopt. They also can either be resin or metal and as someone else mentioned are made in limited quantities. The higher priced kits can have hundreds of parts. I've been building them for over 30 years but buy maybe one or two a year as the subject matter that I build is limited and some of the factory built models do not cost that much more than a kit.
  19. HRM Cobra coupe, Trumpeter GT40 and Renaissance MKIV were all $150 or more. I am too cheap to pay more than $50 for a 40 or 50 year old kit as there isn't a whole lot on my list that I do not have and can live without. I did pick up a 1/12 Doyusha Mach1 for about $100 not long ago which was a very good price.
  20. Shame on GMP - that lower trim should be chrome and not body color.
  21. I have posted several pics of this finished kit (GT500 and GT500KR) on this forum as well as the HRM GT350 version that uses parts from the 67 GT350. The engine compartment does not look anything like the real car. I cut out the fender wells and put in inner fender panels and separate radiator, shock tower braces and horns. Other things that could be added are a master cylinder and windshield washer container. If you build a GT500KR you'll need a ram-air style air cleaner. Great detailed photos of a real GT500 can be viewed at https://www.mecum.com/lots/PA0716-250477/1968-shelby-gt500-fastback/?utm_source=InfoNet+Master&utm_campaign=d3a91a0223-PA16_S957_12_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_fa410e9114-d3a91a0223-112302805
  22. This is one my long list of subjects I want to tackle someday. I was thinking of using the gearbox fans transaxle so from a GT40 kit. It's unfortunate no kit manufacturer of the many variations of this subject ever did a version with engine detail. Good luck and looking forward to your progress.
  23. Use the leaf spring "helpers" included in the kit.
  24. Is ACME on the same level of quality? It does not look like it is.
  25. I have managed to piece together a buildable model from several glue bombs. It's on my very long list of builds to get to someday. Picture to be posted in a few minutes.
