Sad Sad Sad News: Our Harry Passed Away
LaughingIndian replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
sad sad news ... -
Very sad news ... I hope Harry finds peace he has given me much happiness as he shared his great passion for modeling ...
-
... I think I may take a little more ... gotta make some decisions ... maybe fab the hood and radiator grille first I also really want to have the exhaust on the side, not underneath ... maybe turn it out just before the rear fender ... I can't find an example from around 1932 though ... not leMans anyway ...

Thank you Cato. I think of Harry daily.

Thank you C

Sweet ... Those prior hood tops looked like they were going to give you problems ... they didn't seem to sit right question: I see a lot of use of what appears to be plastic mesh that folks use with the filler material, as in your second pic in the above series. What is that? I don't see it in automotive shops ...

How're things Cato? Are you going to publish that book? They actually print books to order nowadays like Harry's ... price is cheap ... just sayin ...

Thank you very much Tim. I've got some decision making to do on the fenders, grill and exhaust. I was thinking full fenders, shaved and trimmed a bit, but now thinking about front bicycle ones ... will see ... I'm looking at the LeMans cars of the era also rear mounted spares like the alphas ... inset in the trunk with or without a cover ... I'll see if I can pick up one or two more jag wheels

The hunk of plastic in front is the section cut out just below the hip line molding on the body ... I used a dermal cut-out wheel so the 'slag' was crazy as you can see on the waste piece

Recaster Alert
LaughingIndian replied to Chief Joseph's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
yeah I know they could take it off, but at least your original could be easily identified from a forgery ... the creator could just sign it with a sharpie. Maybe add a date and series number. If every caster started signing their work buyers would look for only signed pieces ... I know it'd be like a cop on a moped, but that's how the art world does it. -
Spectacular ... I can almost hear it I really like the exhaust wrap!

Recaster Alert
LaughingIndian replied to Chief Joseph's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Recasting artwork has been unscrupulously done throughout history ... a way sculptors and potters have identified their work is by signing the work before casting may I suggest creators of the originals "sign" their work in an embossed or imprinted sig? this wouldn't stop thievery but would help buyers readily ID knockoffs since the sig would cast poorly I bought 1/8 scale 3D Arden heads with "Arden" barely readable from a reputable company ... -
Harry's new model car book
LaughingIndian replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My copy was delivered this morning. I immediately wrote a review. I'm not patronizing here. The book is a legitimate must have for automobile fans and aficionados everywhere ... oh yeah, modelers too To hold Harry's collection in one hand offers an amazinga glimpse of his passion and skill ... the book design is elegant and the stories are well written and every page will entertain everybody on this site and probably everyone they know ... Bravo Harry ... and thank you! -
+15" thurs; 2" last nite; 6-8" expected tomorrow : I'm on my third run of the Super Bowl ... just sayin

Harry's new model car book
LaughingIndian replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ordered mine. Thanks Skip. And thank you Harry! I wish you well. Mike -
Thanks Bill. I hope I don't disappoint too much ...

thanks for the replies everybody Pat, I'm rethinking as I'm going and researching what was possible in the 1930s ... I read a piece about those centrifugal superchargers and how they screamed and could be heard over others in races ... so the decision was easy
-
I got the heads and intake from Shapeways through TDR innovations (3D print) ... not crazy about the final surface texture . The word 'Ardun' was unreadable and motivated me to refinish and add the cooling fins on the covers I turned the cylinder manifolds upside down then scratched out the supercharger, injector, and distributor ... everything else is from the 3 in 1 Big Duece kit ...

very sad about the insurance rejecting care ... sounds almost criminal ... i hope Harry is taking things in stride as much as he can and finds some energy to fight on
