i make a conscious effort to finish projects i start. it may take a while, but they get finished. at the current time ive only got, lets see, 4 serious projects going and a couple of less serious ones so i pretty much keep to that philosophy. on the other hand i dont typically do a lot of real extensive customizing or scratchbuilding so the level of effort is somewhat less than many here. ive also got 3 1:1 projects going so im still spread pretty thin sometimes.

request: photos of that lincoln V12 flathead motor please
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in WIP: Model Cars
ah yes thank you very much. i still need a clear shot of the distributor and also a normally aspirated example...the resin one is 3 2s. i believe it might have been lyle willits who posted the original photo. could you please repost that or post a link to it cause i cant find it anymore...or better yet post some more pics of your buildup? many thanks again -
huh. i kinda like it with all the ###### on it. too late for that now though i guess. when i find buildups like that i usually just put them on the shelf as a nostalgia item from days gone by. stock would be nice too though.

i need whoever it was who posted the photo of the lincoln V12 flathead powered rod to please post a couple more pics of the motor please! i bought one for a project our club is doing for the NNL west in a month or so and need to see better how everything goes. especially the distributor/magneto setup on the front of the motor and specifically where a couple of pieces should go, like what appears to be an oil breather, what appears to be a fuel distribution block and in particular the left side of the motor. i would appreciate it very much. the photo that came with the kit only shows the right side and there are some details i cannot figure out. many thanks in advance!

"ugly" in-progress vw crewcab ramp truck progress
jbwelda replied to empinut's topic in WIP: Model Cars
yeah i remember seeing the inch pincher back in the 60s i guess it was and it was orange. dont know when it was blue. -
there seem to be plenty more series 1 240 (aka silvia for japan home market) out on the west coast than the series 2 (i forget the "r" designation), or at least i seem to see more earlier ones than later (and i have a 96 1:1 so i tend to notice them when they go by). nice body kit there. im currently finishing up a series 2 garage defender that required a lot of fiddling with the body kit, filling and reshaping. will post when together

speaking of display cases...

twin ignition system in 51 chevy
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
>so if one brakes, theres anotherone right there. yes thats why they are used in aircraft applications, fail safe redundancy. its kind of hard to pull over to change a plug at 20k feet! i never saw the 51 chevy with injection; the one ive got (reissue) has only 2 carb setup aside from stock. thanks for the photo, man that was a pain drilling the 13 holes in that cap eh? -
4-lug Minilite wheels???
jbwelda replied to USAC_1957's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
hmm now you tell me. oh well i suppose i will find a use for the two sets i bought off ebay last night...the photos were so small i couldnt tell exactly but i believe it was the "watanabe #2" that looked closest so i did a buy it now on them...and in the process i figured i might as well buy the metal watanabe wheels at the same time. now maybe onto hobby link japan. i bet they want as much for shipping as for the wheels themselves. but thanks. -
my guess would be the hydraulic clutch but not sure if that is historically correct. man that is coming along nicely and i love the way youre doing the motor mounts and that spring perch!

4-lug Minilite wheels???
jbwelda replied to USAC_1957's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
>The Fujimi wheels above are called "Watanabe" wheels and there are >some on eBay. oh those are the watanabe wheels? seems like i got a set of those around somewhere. now all i got to do is find them. thanks for the info. -
twin ignition system in 51 chevy
jbwelda posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
heres a real strange one imo... the amt 51 (i think it is, dont have it in front of me) chevy fastback straight six motor contains an option for what appears to be a twin ignition system: twin plugs for each cylinder (as evidenced by 12 wire outlets on the distributor cap) and dual points (as evidenced by the twin condensors on the distributor body. this is aircraft style stuff. question: is there or was there a real life prototype for this system? i dont believe i had ever heard of such a thing until seeing it on a quad cam porsche motor of the early 60s. or did the amt engineers just make this up? by the way this is for the "custom" version of the straight six stovebolt motor. -
has anyone actually seen the scale motorsports display stands they have been adverting in all the mags (including present company) and claim they are out in march 2006 or something? my hobby shop has yet to stock them nor can they find anywhere to order them. is it that they arent actually released yet? you may have seen these: they are slanted on architectural like material like drilled i beams etc and look real cool, with a mirror below i believe.

i was just wondering the same thing about the nissan silvia im in the process of finishing up but i was considering light tint of tamiya clear blue. ive tinted small pieces like headlight covers with future mixed with a bit of clear blue and that worked out nice but im not so sure with larger pieces like interior glass (and on this particular model the glass is all one big bucket piece...while i would normally cut it all apart to have open driver window and partially opened passenger window, in this case im just going to keep it simple). anyone have experience with tinting using tamiya clear blue from a spray can?

ford edsel pacer-58, beauty or a beast?
jbwelda replied to JAFFA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
>As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder for the edsel, beer is a must! preferably more than one. -
oh yeah you can see from the middle photo that the rear doors this year were not suicide style. but i still love this design. im with you on the 58s, a 58 impala has always been one of my favorite lead sled platforms with all that gingerbread trim and those triple taillights etc. ive got to break my mold one of these days and build a 58 impala the way i remember them: purple candy paint, scallopped scoops, dummy spotlights, chopped top and caddy bullet taillights.

4-lug Minilite wheels???
jbwelda replied to USAC_1957's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
say exotics builder, you wouldnt want to sell or trade those would you? i asked, no begged is probably more appropriate a term, for them a while ago to no avail. i need them to replicate the wheels on my 1:1 miata. replica and miniatures of maryland makes some inserts of 8 spoke minilite/panasport wheels but right offhand i dont recall if they are 4 or 5 lug. -
Anyone looking for a CARS avatar?
jbwelda replied to Mr. Can Am Garage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
again, a "barf" smiley would come in handy! -
compared to say a monte carlo its got style and class. ive always loved those canted headlights and didnt the four door models have suicides in the rear so the doors opened up opposite each other? coolness increase. course it doesnt hold a candle to like a mid 70s chevy donk style (is there a throwing-up smiley somewhere?)

in a couple of years 1:1 examples of this car will be up on blocks in front of the towns finest shacks and meth houses just like its predecessors currently are. is there a gas station anywhere in the usa without a battered camaro somewhere in the vicinity? ive yet to see one.

i dont know what fujimi kit exactly youre looking at but ive built a couple and they were pretty well detailed with a nice interior. never done one with a full motor detail though. on the other hand im currently finishing a fujimi garage defend silvia (s16 from memory) that has a very simple interior tub (eg: no door handles, window switches, much of anything in detail actually) even though most of the rest of the car is fairly detailed (undercarriage, rear deck wing, body kit etc). only problem was the body kit didnt fit worth a darn and it took a lot of fiddling and filling etc to make it even look presentable. i probably spent 60 or so hours on it a couple years back before putting it away out of frustration only to resuscitate it earlier this year, now its near done and should be "under glass" by new years. yet another reason other project lie neglected.

Two type two
jbwelda replied to Stefan's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
yeah man real kool transporters. next time if you feel more ambitious i can recommend the quad cam porsche motor out of the fujimi enthusiast model 356s. that will get these thing scooting! -
based on this thread i picked up a tiger shark the other day. all i have to say is: what a gawd awful design. who thought this up? they actually butchered the dream rod (1:1) into this monstrosity? someone had way too much coffee (or something a lot stronger) the day they "designed" the shark! oh well, its cool for the parts nonetheless. quick edit: looking at it in the kit reviews section though, it doesnt look nearly as bad as i remember. maybe it was *me* who was on something?
